Custer County Chief July 21. 2005 Marlene S. CLIFFORDS, 51, of Grand Island, died July 12, 2005, at her home after a battle with Huntington Disease. Marlene was born May 7, 1954, at Broken Bow the daughter of John and Eleanor (Van Dyke) Ryan. She married Gregory L. Cliffords on March 29, 1985, at St. Paul. Her parents, one brother, Ronald Ryan, and her father-in-law, Vernon Cliffords, preceded her in death. Memorial services were July 16, 2005, at Curran Funeral Chapel. Internment was in the Grand Island City Cemetery. The family requested Mrs. Cliffords be cremated. Cleo L. OSSENKOP, 77, of Walla Walla, Wash., died June 25, 2005, at St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash., following a 12-year battle with breast cancer. She was born May 19, 1928, at Arcadia, Neb., to Sidney and Anna (Summers) Hunt. Cleo was raised in Nebraska. She married Charles Ossenkop in Kearney on Aug. 24, 1947. Cleo retired from the Federal Aviation Agency in 1988 in Anchorage, Alaska. Preceding her in death were her parents. Memorial services were, at College Place Presbyterian Church in College Place, Wash. Ruby CHRISTENSEN, 98, died July 13, 2005 in Broken Bow. Ruby Ann (O'Malley) Christensen was born March 17, 1907. Her exact location of birth was not known as she was an orphan. Ruby came out west on the orphan train. Growing up Ruby lived with several families in Nebraska and went to different schools. On Nov. 27, 1941, Ruby was married to Anton Christensen. The couple lived on various farms in Custer County. Mr. Christensen died in 1978. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton. Funeral services were conducted July 18, 2005, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Burial was at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. Norma Lee (Vinnedge) WALKER, 81, beloved mom and grandma died July 15, 2005. She was born October 7, 1923, to Claire Vinnedge and Lucy (Replogle) Ralls in Taylor, Neb. On August 12, 1941, she married Gerald (Bus) Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Funeral services were conducted July 19, 2005, at Rhoads Funeral Chapel in Sargent. Burial was in the Taylor Cemetery. Lethia Agnes YOHN, 91, of Broken Bow, passed away July 15, 2005. She was born Aug. 25, 1913, to Armus "Art" and Clara J. (Sunkes) Bayless in Turner Valley District #148 between Callaway and Broken Bow. On Feb. 14, 1939, she married Lowell B. Yohn at Loup City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; her parents; two sisters, Pearl and Sylvia Dunkel and their husbands, George and Joe; a nephew, Gerald Dunkel; two sisters-in-laws, Thelma and Crystal and their husbands; and one brother-in-law, Irvin Yohn. Funeral services were conducted, at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Wilbur "Tom" HORN, 85, died July 14, 2005 in Seneca, S.C. Wilbur Thomas Horn was born Oct. 7, 1919 in Custer County the second son of Claret L. and Essie M. (Rodgers) Horn. On Aug. 21, 1943, Tom married Patricia "Pat" Veal. To this union, two sons Thomas Ray and Michael Dale were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, his parents and one grandson, Ron Horn. Funeral services were conducted, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Gerry DODGE, 71, of Callaway, Nebraska died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at her home in Callaway. Mass of Christian Burial was, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway, Nebraska, with Rev. Neal Nollette, officiating. Burial was in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska. Leo GRIEBEL, 77, of Milburn died July 16, 2005 in Broken Bow. Funeral services were conducted, at the Evangelical Free Church in Sargent. Burial was in the Gates Cemetery in Gates with the Rhoad Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Eva Mae KIEBORZ, 84, of North Platte passed away July 13, 2005. She graduated from Merna High School and taught 35 years. Funeral services were conducted July 16, 2005, at Govier Brothers Chapel. Born Feb. 14, 1905, to Charles & Jennie Hagedorn Hanson in Brunswick, Neb. Married Joy Peters on Oct. 6, 1928,. Preceded in death by her husband, Joy, son Phillip Bradley and grandson, Randall. Memorial services were conducted, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. Burial of cremains was in Hay Springs, Neb. Arthur Neal "Pete" EMBREE was born in Anselmo, Neb., Oct. 30, 1930. He died March 5, 2005. He was predeceased by infant son, Eddie; brothers, Leonard and Leo, and sister, Freda Cantrell. Richard Eldon BRAINARD, 72, died May 11, 2005, at Veteran's Hospital in Omaha. Richard was born at Milburn, Neb., to John Stuart and Margaret Martha Leonard Brainard on April 25, 1933. He joined the U. S. army and served in WWII from June 5, 1953, to April 9, 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elizabeth Brainard and Lorene Thompson. Memorial services will be held, at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow . Burial, with military honors, in the Dale Catholic Cemetery. Marion S. TUCKER, 83, of Broken Bow, died June 18, 2005 in Kearney. Marion Seth Tucker was born Sept. 12, 1921, to John William and Pearl Belle (Bevins) Tucker at their home in the Davis Creek Community 12 miles southwest of North Loup, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Nellie and Wanda, and brothers Carl, Kenneth and Alvin. Funeral services were conducted June 21, 2005, at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Shirley Marie HOGUE was born on July 29, 1923, in the Broken Bow area to Gertrude Dawson and I. Everett Hogue. At the age of 16, Shirley married James David (J.D.) Gibson on June 1, 1940 in Broken Bow. Shirley passed away after a long illness on June 6, 2005 at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 17 days. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deanne, her parents and one sister. Memorial services were conducted, at Govier Brothers Chapel. Internment was in the Broken Bow cemetery. Esther Marie Dorothy (Miller) ROSS, 93, of Callaway, Nebraska, died June 24, 2005. Esther was born Nov. 15, 1911, to Henry and Karoline (Vogler) Miller at her parent's home on Redfern Table, south of Callaway. She was united in marriage to Owen Ross Nov. 1, 1932, at the Morning Star Parsonage in a double ring ceremony with Henry Bonde and Rachel Spangler. Preceded in death by her parents, husband of 56 years, Owen; one infant son, Donald Eugene, one sister, Clara Spangler, and two brothers, Bill Miller and Herman Miller. Services were conducted, at the Callaway United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. Ruby D. THOMAS, age 77, died June 21, 2005 in Broken Bow. Ruby was born June 28, 1927, four miles southeast of Westerville, Neb., to Fenton and Vesta (Casteel) McEwen. Preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were conducted, in Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Marvin Fredrick BEBERNISS, 84 of Grand Island died June 26, 2005, at his home. He was born Jan. 20, 1921, the son of Rudolph and Paula (Gosda) Beberniss. He was united in marriage to Margaret Iseburg, August 23, 1941, in Grand Island. He entered the United States Army Nov. 5, 1942, serving in WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret, one son, Don and a brother, August Beberniss. Funeral services were conducted June 28, 2005, at Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island. Burial was in the Westlawn Memorial Park.
