SIDNEY SUN TELEGRAPH Charlotte L. FLEMING 1923-2002 Charlotte L. Fleming, 79, a Sidney resident died on May 6 in Scottsbluff. Funeral services May 10 at the Peetz Methodist Church in Peetz, Colo. Burial in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Charlotte LaRue Fleming was born on Feb 2, 1923 on a farm south of Potter, the oldest of seven children born to Edson and Alice (Carlson) Madden. On May 1, 1941 married to Marvin Fleming in Sidney and they farmed near Lorenzo for over 50 years. Her parents, husband and three brothers preceded her in death. Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Rhea J. KUTSCHKAU 1917-2002 Rhea J. Kutschkau, 84, of Grand Island, died May 4, 2002. Services were held on May 7 at the Chapel of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Phillips Cemetery. Born June 8, 1917 at Lodgepole, to William Sherman Tecumseh and June (Weber) Schroll. Due to the early death of her mother, she was reared by several of her sisters and her father. On Feb 14, 1937, she married LeRoy Gustov Kutschkau at Denver. Rhea was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, on Aug 3, 1975, brothers, George, Charles, Roy, Mike, and, two infant brothers, four sisters, Floetta, Pearl, Dessa, and Alta. Daniel LaVaughn DUNCAN 1924-2002 Daniel LaVaughn Duncan, 78, born in Potter in 1924, passed away at home in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 1. In 1945 he married Waldretta Engleman. Funeral services were held immediately following viewing on May 4. Graveside service immediately followed the funeral at St. Francis Cemetery. Guy E. WEAVER 1920-2002 Guy E. Weaver, 81, died April 30 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug 4, 1920 at Hemingford, Neb., to Melure and Nella Weaver. Married Marjorie Bolke on Nov 22, 1950 in Sidney. He was preceded in death by a son, Chuck in 1995; three sisters, Reah, Frieda and Lylus and his parents. Services were held Monday, May 6 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Burial was at the North Platte Cemetery. Dorthy E. THEIS 1912-2002 Dorthy E. Theis, 89 of Lodgepole died May 6 in Sidney. Funeral services May 10 in the Lodgepole United Methodist Church. Dorthy married Lester Theis in Beatrice, Neb. on Nov 9, 1937. Her husband died in 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Arlina HARTE 1933-2002 Arlina Harte, 68, Buffalo, Wyo., died April 30 at her home. Memorial services at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Buffalo. Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Arlina Harte was born Oct. 8, 1933 in Sidney, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Harte. Survivors include one brother, John Harte of St. Petersburg, Fla.; many cousins and a multitude of close friends too numerous to mention. Arlina was preceded in death by her parents. Andrea HERNANDEZ FRANCO 1911-2002 A funeral mass for Andrea Hernandez Franco, 90, of Sidney, formerly of Minatare, who died April 27 will be held May 1 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering. Interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare. Andrea was born Nov 10, 1911 in the orange grove country of Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Victoriano and Leonides (Adame) Hernandez where she was reared and educated prior to migrating to the United States. Her family settled in Wheatland, Wyo. where she met Santos Franco. They were married in Wheatland on Nov 22, 1930. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons Aniceto, Luis and Santos, Jr.; great-granddaughter Savanna and sister Dionesia. Ray SLAMA 1922-2002 Ray Slama, 80 of Potter, died April 22, at his home in Potter. Funeral services April 26, in the Potter United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Potter Cemetery with Military graveside services conducted by the Potter American Legion Post #291. Raymond L. Slama, the son of Charles R. and Jessie M. (Sapp) Slama was born April 13, 1922 twelve miles north and one mile east of Potter. On Sept 27, 1947 married Ruth M. Sellers in Sidney. Gertrude M. STIKKER 1918-2002 Gertrude M. Stikker, 84, Olympia, Wash. and a former resident of Sidney, died April 19 in Olympia. Memorial services April 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Gertrude M. Stikker was born on Nov 11, 1918 in Gurley, the daughter of Thomas E. and Margaret (Campbell) Filbin. Married to Allen Stikker on Dec 31, 1939 in Cheyenne, Wyo. She lived in Sidney until 1997 when she moved to Olympia, Wash. following the death of her husband in 1996. Tillie Mary (HEMMER) BILLETER 1905-2002 Tillie Mary (Hemmer) Billeter, 97, a longtime Broadwater resident, died April 20. Funeral services at St. Patrick’s Church in Sidney. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Born April 16, 1905 at Petersburg, Neb., the daughter of Mathias and Theresia (Batliner) Hemmer. She moved with her parents to Dresdon, Kan. when she was a small child then moved to Sidney in a covered wagon in 1908. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four sisters, Ellen Hockerson, Mary Hemmer, Clara Bales and Frances Kaus; three brothers, John, William and Andrew Hemmer. McKinley, 84, Torrington, Wyo., died April 20. Graveside services at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Helen A. McKinley was born June 8, 1918 at the family homestead 10 miles south of Lisco and 11 miles east of Dalton, the daughter of August and Minnie (Feldman) Hennig. Helen met Elmer McKinley in 1947 at a community dance in Lisco and married on August 6, 1949 in Bridgeport. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother. Nancy Gail BENZEL 1947-2002 Nancy G. Benzel, 54, Sidney, died at her home Friday, April 19. Her funeral was Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney. Theodore Raymond Houser was born on the family farm south of Sunol on Feb. 18, 1931, the son of James and Karolena (Schroeder) Houser. Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters. Evan C. “Pete” PETROFF 1923-2002 Pete Petroff, 78 of Sidney, Nebraska died April 14. Evan Carl Petroff, the son of George and Mary (Riskosky) Petroff was born July 9, 1923 in Denver, Colo. He married Elain Kilham. Preceded in death by his parents, two step-sons: Cal Holbrook and Randy McGee; his sister Helen Marie and his first wife Elain. Marjorie S. RADEL 1919-2002 Marjorie S. Radel, 82, Sidney, died April 13. Funeral services April 19 at the Sidney Evangelical Free Church. Burial in the Morningview Cemetery at Wallace. On June 19, 1941, married Lawrence Radel in Goodland, Kan. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother: Jesse. Ione Lewis HRUZA 1917-2002 Ione Hruza died April 10, 2002 in Sidney.
