JCGS Research Policy

The Jefferson County Genealogical Society will do Jefferson County research for $5.00 per hour plus copies. All research is conducted by volunteers, with the money going to further our library collection, which is housed at the Fairbury Public Library. An initial deposit of $10.00 must be received before any research is begun. The following items may be searched by our volunteers.

Jefferson County Marriages - which begin in 1864
Jefferson County Census microfilm (all years available)
Jefferson County Cemetery Index .
Jefferson County Naturalization Index.
Jefferson County Newspapers
Various other sources.

All photocopies are 50 cents each, and we request you send a self-addressed, stamped, business size envelope with your initial deposit. Sometimes a search is fruitless, and the initial fee is NOT refundable if no information is found. All money received is used to fund projects of the society.

Please consider sending copies of your Jefferson County family tree information for our society's files. This will not only help us in locating information for you, it will also aid us in connecting you with someone else researching the same family lines.
