FLORENCE MAE (TETSCHNER) DAVENPORT

Florence Mae Davenport, 100, of Burwell, died Mon, Jan 21, 2002 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.

Funeral services were held 10:30 am Fri, Jan 25, at the Assembly of God Church in Burwell. Rev Mike Blatchley officiated. Burial was in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs Davenport was born Feb 8,1901 in Garfield County, the eldest child of Otto and Mary (Mauer) Tetschner.

On May 3,1920 she married Charley Davenport at Ord. The couple farmed all their married lives in Valley, Garfield, and Custer Counties. They moved back to Garfield County from Comstock when they purchased the HenryBales Farm at the foot of Jones Canyon. In 1984 her husband had a stroke and she cared for him in their home until his death in 1986. She remained on the farm until 1988 when she purchased a home and moved into Burwell. She resided there until moving to the Burwell nursing home in August of 2000.

Mrs Davenport was baptized at an early age. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and taught a Sunday School class for many years.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Vernell of Burwell, three grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren ; 10 great great grandchildren; one sister, Mable Nelson of Burwell; two sisters-in-law Lola Tetschner and Joanne Tetschner, both of Burwell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ernest Tetschner and Lloyd and Lucina Tetschner; a sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and Ottis Conner.

Florence Mae Davenport was born in Garfield County, Nebraska, the eldest child of Otto and Mary (Mauer) Tetschner on February 9,1901.

She was united in marriage to Charley Davenport on May 3, 1920 at Ord, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born, Clarence Leo and one son who died at birth.

Florence and Charley farmed all their married lives in Valley,Garfield and Custer Counties. They moved back to Garfield County from Comstock when they purchased the Henry Bales farm at the foot of Jones Canyon.

In 1984, Charley had a stroke which left him paralyzed on his right side. Florence cared for him in their home until his dath in 1986. She remained on the farm until 1988 when she purchased a home in Burwell and moved to town. She resided there until moving to the Burwell nursing home in August of 2000.

She was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Church. She taught Sunday School class for many years and very seldom missed a church service.

Survivors include one son, Clarence and his wife Vernell of Burwell, Nebraska; three grandchildren; Dan Davenport and his wife Pat of Burwell, Nebraska, Peggy Clay of Merna, Nebraska, Dorothy Boilsen and husband Jeff of Ord, Nebraska; eight great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; one sister, Mable Nelson of Burwell; two sister-in-laws Lola Tetschner and Joanne Tetschner of Burwell; nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Ernest and Lloyd and sister –in-law Lucina Tetschner, a sister Carrie and brother-in-law Otis Conner.

ERNEST W. TETSCHNER

Ernest William Tetschner, 84, of Burwell died Monday, December 3,2001 at the Beverly Health Care Center in Sargent.

Funeral services were held 10 am Wednesday December 5 at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Burial was in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Rev Marty Robbins officiated. Hitchcock Funeral Home of Burwell was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the SCU at Community Memorial Health Center.

Mr Tetschner was born August 10,1917 to Otto and Nora (Mower) Tetschner in a sod house in Jones Canyon near Burwell. He was in the United States Military in the South and Southwest Pacific.

On February 12,1945 he married Lola Howart in St Paul. He spent his entire life farming around Burwell.

Mr Tetschner enjoyed going to rodeos, fishing, hunting and all outdoor sports until poor health forced him to stop these activities.

Survivors include his wife, Lola of Burwell; one son and daughter-in-law, Jay Dee and Darlene Tetschner of Burwell, three grandchildren, and two sisters, Florence Davenport and Mable Nelson, both of Burwell.

He was preceded in death by one son, Lanny, one brother, Lloyd, and one sister, Carrie.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Lola Tetschner of Burwell, Nebr; One son and his wife Jay Dee and Darlene Tetschner of Burwell, Nebr. Three grandchildren. Two sisters, Florence Davenport and Mable Nelson both of Burwell, Nebr.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, one son Lanny, one brother Lloyd and one sister Carrie.

SERVICES HELD SATURDAY FOR MRS JESSE FREEMAN

Funeral services for Mrs Jesse C Freeman, 79, who died Wednesday, June 19, at the Burwell Community Memorial Hospital, were held Saturday at 10 am at the United Methodist Church. The Rev Richard Shapland conducted the services.

Mrs Carlos Olcott and Mrs Roland Hoppes, accompanied by Mrs Merle Edghill, organist, sang the selections, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere".

Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Freeman Jr, Delbert Freeman Jr, Paul Zulkoski, David Augustyn, Carl Leon Rieck, and Marlin Rieck.

Serving as pallbearers were Laurel Rieck, Donald Freeman, Mark Freeman, Randall Blake, Timothy Zulkoski, and Junior Schneider.

Interment was in the Cottonwood Cemetery. The Fleming Funeral Home was in Charge of arrangements.

Laura Leola Conner Freeman, daughter of George Elias Conner and Minnie Anderson Conner was born July 28,1894 at her parent’s home in Garfield County and passed on to her eternal home from the Burwell Hospital on June 19,1974 at the age of 79 years,10 months and 21 days.

Laura lived all her life in Garfield County expect for two years which were spent in Valley County. She received her education in the Free Silver School. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge.

Laura was united in marriage to Jess C Freeman on March 9,1913 at her parent’s home. They were married 61 years. To this union twelve children were born. Laura enjoyed their life on the farm and ranch and the work it involved. Her hobbies were growing flowers, and playing the organ, and she held a special love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Words which never express the love and joy she has brought to the lives of those she touched. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Left to hold sacred her memory are: her husband, Jess; her children and their families, Florence and husband Leo Rieck of Primrose, Nebr; Robert (Bud) of Laton, California; Delbert and wife, Wilma of  Burwell; Ilene and husband, Dale Lindsey of Burwell; Betty and husband Dan Augustyn of Ord; Lola and husband Carl Augustyn of Portland, Oregeon; Norma and husband Roland Black of Laton, California; Margy and husband Ralph Zulkoski of Burwell; Lila and husband Stanley Schneider of Burwell; Marvin and wife Ellen of Taylor; Dale and wife Connie of Mead, Nebraska; 59 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; one brother Ray Conner of Paso Robles, California; and sisters Mrs Emmett Hughes of Sargent;
