Newsclipping BERTHA MAY KINNEY FREELAND

Funeral services for Bertha Freeland, were held Sat Aug 2 at 2 pm at the St John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell, with Pastor Donald L Boeschen officiating. Music was by Mrs Don Cain and Mrs Richard Burnham. Pallbearers were Floyd Taylor, Alex Chambers, Trevor Brandenberg, Archie Ashman, Dale Warwick, Lester Stahlecker. Burial was in the Banner Cemetery. The Fleming Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha May Kinney, daughter of Anson and Henrietta Dudschus Kinney was born at Burwell, May 16,1918 and died at the Burwell Community Hospital. July 30,1969 at the age of 51 years, 2 months 14 days. Following an illness of 2 years and hospitalization the past month. Bertha attended the Burwell schools and spent her entire life in and around Burwell. On July 6,1935 she was married to Elmer Freeland of Burwell. One daughter was born to this union.

"Bert" as she was known to her many friends, was manager of the Burwell American Legion Club and before becoming manager some 12 years ago, was cook at the club. She was a faithful member of the St John’s Lutheran Church of Burwell and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Elmer, one daughter, Mrs Sonja Kenley of Lincoln, four grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs Eddie Bartos of Burwell and Mrs Mayetta Beat of Lincoln, one brother Anson Kinney of Burwell.
 


 
 
 
Silas Thomas Davis was born at Mount City, Holt co., Missouri July 18,1861 and passed from this life at
Burwell, Nebraska (Garfield co.) November 14,1924 at the age of 63 years 3 months and 26 days.
Deceased was united in marriage on 11-5-1887 in Hitchcock Co., Ne to Matilda Carlson. To this union
twelve children were born. Four of the children two boys and two girls have preceded the father to the 
other world.The living children are Elzy Davis of Grand Island, Ne.,Mrs Sarah Adams of Ord, Ne,
Ethlie (Ettie)Haynes of Nissing, Kansas, Nettie Wray, Veva Davis and Carl Davis of Lincoln, Ne,
Silas Jr. Davis and Jannie Mae (Davis) Lytle of Garfield co., Nebraska who with their mother were at
their fathers bedside when he passed away. Other relatives of the deceased were a brother George Davis of Burwell, a sister Mrs. Elizilda Goolsby of Verdon, Ne and a sister Belle Pollard of Kaycee, Wy.
Deceased has been in failing health since the middle of July and his condition changed for the worse a week ago Monday. Besides a wife and numerous nephews and nieces the deceased leaves a large circle of near friends and neighbors that learn of his death with regret.
Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Reeves of the Christian Church at the Westside school house
Sunday afternoon and interment was made in West Side Cemetery (rural Garfield co.)

Newsclipping 50 YEARS AGO—1928

Carl Frederick Davis was born June 8,1898 and passed to the great beyond Mar 30,1928 at the age of 29 years 7 months and 22 days. The funeral was conducted from the Methodist Church, Pastor W W Gettys officiated and burial was in Westside Cemetery.
 

Ettie Mae Alderman was born on Farm near Burwell, Garfield Co., Nebraska to Martha (Abbott) and James Alderman. She married Flourney M Butts 11-6-1901 They had three Children Ettie Mae Alderman graduated from Burwell High School in 1899. She taught school. 
She died 4-8-1966 Burwell, Garfield Co., Nebraska. Surviving her is a son Leonard Butts of Burwell, Ne
A daughter Lucille Morford of Ames, Iowa. Two sisters Florence Clark and Alta Jones of Ord, Ne. Brother; Lloyd Alderman of Grand Junction, Colorado; Nine grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband  Flourney M. Butts (1887-1956) Sister Lula Nelson Brother Otto Alderman
One brother in infancy Services were held at the Congregational Church in Burwell. Burial in Cottonwood Cemetery, Burwell, Nebraska Buried in grave  13-31-1 Flourney M Butts buried in grave 13-31-2
