Moses McCarty is Gathered to His Fathers at Ripe Age of 91.

Moses McCarty, one of the pioneers of Furnas county and the oldest resident of the community, passed peacefully away at his home, seven miles south of Beaver City, Tuesday morning, after an illness of several months.  He had gradually grown weaker with the weight of years and a general breaking up of his vitalities, and sank to rest without a struggle.  Mr. McCarty was one of the most prominent characters of this part of the county.  He was a warm hearted, generous, and loyal citizen.  He came to the county in the earliest days of its settlement and helped to develope the frontier into the present prosperous and progressive community.  Mr. McCarty left a history of his life which will be published next week, and will be of deep interest to those who knew him.

Moses McCarty was born in Ohio, January 30, 1820.  He died in Furnas county, Nebr., June L, 1911, being 91 years, 4 months, and 7 days of age.  He was married November 17, 1865 to Miss Elizabeth Cummins.  To this union eight children were born, of whom only two are living, being Mrs. John Wentling and James McCarty.  Mr. McCarty came to Furnas county from Jay county, Ind., in 1873, and has lived here continuously since.  He and his family endured all the hardships and privatious that are common to the settlement of a new country.  Uncle Moses has now gone to his reward leaving a wife, one son and daughter and legions of friends to mourn hi loss.  Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Pressly at the Advent church, Wednesday afternoon, and the internment was made in the Beaver City cemetery.

September the 15 1884
Dear Brother I take my pen in hand this beautiful afternoon to write you a few lines to you but to tell you the sad news that Mother is dead and died the 4th day of this month.  She has been helpless ever since the 23 of March she didnt suffer much though until the last few days the night before she died I think she was concious that she was going to die for she said farewell Sophronia and the night she died she said farewell to Jonas and Sophronia.  Rachel stayed about a week with her.  The funeral was at the house a large crowd was there we had the hearse from Middleport the coffin was thirty one dollars   and her robe five dollars   the funeral text was the 7 chapter and 14 verse of Revelations.  Aunt Eliza & Uncle Ben says they dont think there can be fault found whatever about the way Mother was buried.
