A Kinkaid Homestead.
Early 1900's a homestead act was passed in which a man could stake out a claim on a quarter section of government land, live on it, improve it, and later when the land had been surveyed and officially put up for sale, he would have first chance to buy it at a minimum price of $1.25 per acre. Thus the Kinkaid Homestead act.
