Davis Chapel

Davis Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery
Crawford Road
Iron Duff
Haywood County, NC

Survey: September 4, 2001 by Rebecca Howell

To reach this cemetery, take I-40 West to the Crabtree exit (Hwy. 209) in Haywood County. Take a left on Hwy. 209 off the off-ramp. Take Hwy. 209 to Iron Duff Road. Go about 1 mile on Iron Duff Road and take Crawford Road on the right. The cemetery is on the hill behind the church.
Davis Chapel United Methodist Church has been on this spot since 1889. It began as a camp meeting held in a field belonging to Mr. Frank Davis in 1883. At it's conception, Davis Chapel was the only church in the community attended by both Methodists and Baptists.
Mr. and Mrs. Z. W. Davis donated the land for the church in 1887. In 1889, the Reverend D. C. Howell conducted the first worship service in the new structure. It was dedicated in 1890 by J. H. Weaver, D. D. It continues to serve the Iron Duff community today as it did in days past.
This cemetery is well maintained and has a spectacular view of the mountains. This cemetery is quite old and there are many graves marked only by fieldstones or markers which have deteriorated to the point of being completely unreadable. It is fenced and all visitors should be sure to close the gate securely.
This cemetery is still in use.

No person is ever truly dead until the last person forgets to remember them.
