The Rev. Paul Andrew Helton, 83, of Helton Street, Lenoir, died Monday, March 8, 2010 at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley.
He was born Oct. 20, 1926 in Caldwell County to the late George L. and Emma Lee Craig Helton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings, Clarence Helton, Eugene Helton, Alma Woods, Ola Garrison, Lois Brown, Augusta Carpenter, Jim Helton, Doris Helton and Clyde Helton.
Mr. Helton was pastor of Edgemont Baptist Church for 12 years. He established Crossroads Baptist Church in 1977 and was the pastor there since that time. He was also a World War II veteran of the United States Marines.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Parson Helton of the home; three sons, Terry E. Helton and wife Peggy, Donald E. Helton and wife Diana, both of Lenoir and Dennis P. Helton and wife Sherry of Nebo; one daughter, Mrs. Sandra Broyhill and husband James of Lenoir; two brothers, David Helton of Kenwick, Washington and Lloyd Helton of Gamewell; one sister, Mrs. Sue Buckner of Lenoir; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Kevin Broyhill, the Rev. Gurney Robbins, the Rev. Ed Greene and the Rev. Michael Helton. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Helton, Bryan Helton, Greg Helton, Josh Bollinger, Scott Bollinger and James Paul Broyhill. Honorary pallbearer will be Isaiah Helton.
