Kiter V. Marley went home to be with her Lord on March 12, 2010, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Wilkes County to the late John C. and Lilly Hamby Marley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, George W. Marley, Jones E. Marley, Lester Marley, Marshall Marley, Junior Marley and Charlie Marley; sister, Jane M. Allen; and nephew, Michael Marley Sr.
She is survived by a sister, Jessie M. Allen of Hickory; 12 nieces, eight nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.
Kiter retired from Century Chair after 25-plus years of service. She had no children of her own but was a mother and grandmother figure to many of her nieces and nephews. She loved animals and flowers. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. She was a good cook and loved baking cakes for many occasions. She was kind, tender-hearted and generous but spoke her mind without censure when she thought the occasion called for it. She loved the Lord and was ready to meet Jesus. Her fingerprints are on many lives. She will live on in the hearts of many.
Her funeral service will be held Monday, March 15 at Catawba Funerals & Cremations at 11 a.m. with Pastor Scott Hooks and the Rev. David Noyes officiating. Burial will follow at Allen Family Cemetery in Ferguson. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 10�11 a.m.
