Howard Carlton Howell, 52, of Boomer, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Mr. Howell was born in Wilkes County to the late Raymond Harrison Howell and Joyce Mae Carlton Howell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Perry Ramus Howell, Garland Harrison Howell, Charles Gene Howell and Darius Howell.

He was a published artist, poet, antique dealer and truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Moody Howell of the home; his daughters, Samantha Howell of Lenoir, Ashley Mays and husband Jonathan of Boomer, and Jessica Howell and husband Greg Winkler of Lenoir; a brother, Robert Howell of Charlotte; a sister, Patricia Smith of Winston-Salem; and 13 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. in Pendry�s Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow at Scenic Memorial Gardens in Wilkesboro.

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Carlton, Darvis Carlton, Jonathan Mays, Andrew Dula, Greg Winkler, Rodney Carlton, Steve Carlton and Brandon Carlton.
