Helen Beatrice Jaynes Ball, 89, of Hillsfarm Street, NE, Lenoir, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley.


She was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Caldwell County to the late Bynum Callaway and Mirah Marie Gray Jaynes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Hal Bynum Jaynes, Thomas Allen Jaynes, John Gray Jaynes and Kenneth Clarence Jaynes; and four sisters, Vallie Jaynes Martin, Hesse Jaynes Knupp, Nita Jaynes McMaster and Kathryn Gray Jaynes.


Mrs. Ball was retired from Shuford Mills with 44 years of service and attended Granite Falls United Methodist Church. She loved gardening and growing pretty flowers, stargaze lilies, azaleas and roses. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and was a member of U.S. Dance Fort. She was an Atlanta Braves and Duke Blue Devil team fan. She enjoyed reading biographies.


Survivors include her husband, Ralph Harding Ball of the home; one son, Danny Jaynes and wife Mary of Willow Springs, N.C.; one brother, Richard Lenoir Jaynes and wife Sue of Kings Creek; one sister, Bobbie Jean Jaynes Triplett Curtis and husband Harry of Lenoir; a sister-in-law, Betty Hedrick Duffy of Kings Creek; two grandchildren, Mrs. Alice Ann Merle and husband Ross of Raleigh, and D. Thomas Jaynes of Durham; and three great-grandchildren, Cory Merle, Aria Merle and Matthew Merle, all of Raleigh.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Granite Falls United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Thomas R. Hunter. Assisting in the interment service will be the Rev. Gary Waters. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery.


The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.


Serving as pallbearers will be Cory Merle, Matthew Merle, Jonathan Whisnant, Pierce Casturao, John Jaynes, Tony Reynolds, William Martin and Larry Hale.
