Alfredia Whisnant Avery, 86, of Lenoir, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Monday, March 1, 2010, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.
She was born June 10, 1923, in Burke County to the late David and Minnie Hardin Whisnant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter M. Avery; one son, Earl Walter Webb; two brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Avery was a retired seamstress for Broyhill Furniture Industries and was a member of Miracle Church.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry D. Avery and wife Jane, Kenneth L. Avery, Robert B. Avery and Johnny A. Avery, all of Lenoir; two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Avery Day and husband David of Lenoir, and Ms. Nancy Avery Hampton of Rutherfordton; notable grandchildren, Regina Dishman and Scott Philyaw, and 13 additional grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Tim Suter and the Rev. Johnny McNeil. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Allen Day, Mark Day, Scott Philyaw, Adam Hampton, Blake Day and Justin Triplett.
