Mary Ann Ellen was the youngest daughter of Edward Garden and Christiana Caverhill. Her grandfather was Dr. William Caverhill.

Her death is recorded in the New Brunswick Courier, 20 June 1878: #2600: d. Canterbury Station (York Co.) 9th inst., Mary Ann Ellen Hartin, w/o Rev. Thomas Hartin, Rector of Canterbury, 41st year, left husband, six sons, two daughters, a widowed mother. (see original) and, from Daily News, #2488: d. Canterbury Station (York Co.) 9th inst., Mary Ann Ellen Hartin, w/o Rev. Thomas Hartin, Rector of Canterbury, 41st year, left husband, six sons, two daughters, widowed mother. Her obituary was also in the Daily Telegraph, St. John, N.B., Monday, June 17th, 1878:

Her gravestone partially sunken in ground, has this epitaph: "Sacred to the Memory of Mary Ann Ellen Hartin, consort of Rev. Thomas Hartin, who parted this life 9 June 1878 in her 41st year." (Grave location, Parish Cemetery, Canterbury, NB; Section 1, Row 0, Number 93)
