Maugerville Church1792Hugh Johnston & Israel Perley, on behalf of the inhabitants of Sheffield, stating that on the allotments of land in Maugerville were requested by the Government of Nova Scotia that four lots should be reserved for a Glebe for the Church of England, for the dissenting Protestants for the settled Minister and for a school, that as such they possessed it from 1763 clearing 30 acres. Rev. John James agreed to settle as a dissenting minister, he afterwards resigned his pastoral charge and joined the Church of England and requested that the said lots be granted to him. Ask that no such appropriation take place.
