October 10, 1940

    Frank Patterson has gone to Saint John where he has enlisted with the C.A.S.F.

    Byron Nodding and Roy Best have joined the R.C.N.V.R. and left for Halifax last week.

October 17, 1940

    Maurice Justason and Holmes Anderson have gone to Fredericton where they have been called for 30 days of military training.

    Robert Wright of the N.B. Rangers Saint John, spent the Thanksgiving weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wright.

    Milton Barry of the Motor Cycle Regiment, Sussex, was a week-end guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Barry.

October 17, 1940

    Gnr. Gordon W. Powell and Bdr. Donald E. Akerley, spent the weekend and Thanksgiving Day with relatives here.

November 7, 1940

    Frank Patterson has returned to St. John to resume his duties with the C.A.S.F., after enjoying a few days leave with his family here.

    Alden Paul of the military police of the C.A.S.F., spent a few days this week with Mrs. Paul and their daughter, Violet.

November 21, 1940

    Loren Harvie has joined the R.C.N.V.R. and reported for duty at Saint John this week.

December 26, 1940

    Pte. Robert Wright, Saint John, is spending the Christmas season with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wright.

    Pte. Arthur Phillips and Mrs. Phillips (nee Marion Bates) of St. Stephen spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Leverett Bates and George Bates, before going to Saint John to spend Christmas.

    Gilbert Eldridge, who recently joined the R.C.N.V.R., has been transferred to Halifax and on duty on the H.M.C.I. Stadacona.

    Preston Wright of the R.C.N.V.R. and Mrs. Wright of Saint John are spending Christmas with his parents.

    Gnr. Howard Sparks, Mrs. Sparks and family of Saint John are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sparks and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Eldridge.

January 2, 1941

   Gnr. Keith Wright and Mrs. Wright of Saint John were recent guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grovenor Wright.

    Pte. Charles Conley has returned to Bathurst after spending Christmas with Mrs. Conley at their home here.

    Gunner Lawrence Wadlin, Saint John, is spending New Years with his mother, Mrs. Charles Wadlin.

    Gnr. Orland Wadlin, Mrs. Wadlin and children, Sherman and Nina, of Saint John, spent the Christmas season with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wadlin.

    Seaman Eugene Eldridge has returned to Saint John from a few days leave with his father, Maurice Eldridge.    

    Hilton Paul, of Beaver Harbour, Promoted to Ship's-Writer of Royal Canadian Navy.

January 16, 1941

   Seaman Daryl Paul, Mrs. Paul and family, Saint John, spent New Years with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Paul.

    Seaman Weldon Paul of Saint John has been a two weeks' leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Paul.

    Hilton Paul of the R.C.N.V.R., Halifax, is visiting his father, Albert S. Paul.

January 23, 1941

    Pocologan: Pte. Charles Farquharson, of the Saint John Fusiliers, visited with his wife and son here during the week-end.   

    Beaver Harbour: Robert Barry, of the R.C.N.V.R., Halifax, is enjoying a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. L. Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. Howard Sparks, Mrs. Sparks and daughter Deanna, are spending two weeks with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sparks and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Eldridge.

February 6, 1941

    Blacks Harbour: Stuart Joselyn, who has been employed at the factory office of Connors Bros., Limited for some time, left last week to report for army duty.

    Beaver Harbour: Tpr. Milton Barry of the Motor Cycle regiment, Sussex, is on leave visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Barry.

February 20, 1941

Beaver Harbour Man Feared Lost At Sea
Son of Clifford Nodding Was Serving On Ship Recently Lost With All On Board

   Beaver Harbour, Feb. 17 - Clifford Nodding received sad news from England was week advising him that the ship, "Empire Jaguar", of the Mercantile Marine on which his son Mervyn Grant, 27, was serving has been lost and it is presumed that all on board perished. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved family, his father, sisters, Blanche, Amy, Gertrude, Mary, Mrs. Edward Mahar Freda) and brothers Byron of the R.C.N.V.R. Halifax, Burwell and Garfield.
    His mother passed away nearly four years ago and soon after her death Mervyn shipped on a boat leaving Halifax and since then had been in nearly every foreign port in the world. Since war started fears for his safety have been felt and this week the dreaded news came. The last news heard of him was written in November probably before his ship left port in England.

February 27, 1941

    Pocologan: Pte. Lorne A. Rogers of the Saint John Fusiliers is spending a fourteen days' furlough at his home here.

March 6, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Lance Corporal Frank Patterson, St. John, spent a week with relatives here recently.

    Beaver Harbour: Ralph O'Brien of the R.C.A.F., Ottawa, is ill with scarlet fever.

    Black's Harbour: Miss Elizabeth Allen, who has been visiting Miss Barbara Hart, Toronto, has left for Windsor to see her brother, Flight-Lieutenant J. Ross Allen.

March 13, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Seaman Basil and Mrs. Wadlin and Gnr. Orland Wadlin of Saint John attended the funeral of Capt. Edgar Wadlin Sunday.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Robert Wright of Sydney, N.S., is enjoying a two weeks leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wright.

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. Lawrence Wadlin returned to Saint John Monday, after a two days' leave with his mother, Mrs. Charles Wadlin.

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. Edward Mahar of Saint John spent the week-end with Mrs. Mahar here.

    Beaver Harbour: Miss Madelyn Wright and Pte. Robert Wright visited Fredericton last Friday and Saturday.

April 3, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: L. Cpl. and Mrs. Alden Paul of St. John are also receiving congratulations upon the birth of a daughter on March 13th at the General Hospital.

    Beaver Harbour: Lance Corporal Charles Conley returned to Fredericton Saturday after spending a nine day furlough with Mrs. Charles Conley at their home here.

    Beaver Harbour: Tpr. Milton Barry of the 4th Motorcycle Regiment, Sussex and Carl Barry of the R.C.A.F., Sydney, were recent guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Ralph O'Brien of the R.C.A.F., Ottawa, arrived Friday evening to spend a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. O'Brien.

    Pocologan: Fusiliers Lorne Rogers and Charles Farquharson and friend, Frederick Hyslop, also of the Fusiliers, were overnight callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Rogers.

April 10, 1941

    Black's Harbour: Hugh O'Neill, RCAF, of Dartmouth, N.S., is spending a week with friends and relatives here.

    Pocologan: Fus. Wilfred Lovitt has returned to his regiment at Saint John after spending the past week with Mr. and Mrs. George Lloyd. He spent his first week of his furlow at Amherst, N.S.

April 24, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wright entertained a number of young people at their home last Tuesday evening for the pleasure of Gilbert Eldridge and his guests, William O'Brien and Matthew Black, who have been enjoying a two weeks' leave from their ship while in Saint John for repairs.

    Beaver Harbour: Tpr. Milton Barry of the 5th Can. Armored Regiment, Sussex, is on a few days' leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. Lawrence Wadlin, Halifax, spent Easter week-end with his mother, Mrs. Charles Wadlin.

    Beaver Harbour: Friends here extend congratulations to L. Cpl. Edmund and Mrs. Sparks (nee Alma Pitt) upon their marriage, which took place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Pitt, Saint John, on April 10th. L. Cpl. Sparks is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Hayward Sparks, formerly of this place, and he is serving with the 15th Canadian Armored Regiment, Sussex.

    Beaver Harbour: Gilbert Eldridge of the Royal Navy is spending two weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Eldridge. With him are two sailor friends, William O'Brien and Matthew Black, also of the Royal Navy, of Glascow, Scotland.

May 1, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: L. Cpl. Keith Wright, Mrs. Wright and their infant son, Ronald, of Saint John, are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grovenor Wright.

    Beaver Harbour: Chaloner Holmes of the R.C.N.V.R., Saint John, spent a few days here recently.

May 8, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Gilbert Eldridge of the Royal Canadian Navy spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Eldridge.

May 22, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Friends of Mrs. Orland Wadlin extended sympathy to her in the loss of her brother, Signaller Iver Fisher who was lost at sea. Signaller Fisher had a number of friends here who regret his tragic passing.

    Beaver Harbour: Gilbert Eldridge and William O'Brien, Glascow, Scotland, of the Royal Canadian Navy, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Eldridge.

    Beaver Harbour: Carmen Eldridge, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Clair Eldridge, who recently joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve, and who is stationed in Saint John, spent the week-end with his parents.

May 29, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. Leo Goldie and family, Sgt. and Mrs. Wm. Anderson of Saint John were holiday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leverett Bates.

    Beaver Harbour: Ralph O'Brien of the R.C.A.F., who recently completed his training and received his wings at Ottawa, is on leave and enjoying a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. O'Brien.

    Beaver Harbour: Byron Nodding of the R.C.N.V.R., Halifax, spent the week-end with his father, Clifford Nodding.

June 12, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Ralph O'Brien of the R.C.A.F., left for Halifax on Monday, after a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. O'Brien.

    Black's Harbour: Miss Edel Sivertsen, who has been employed at Bradley's, Saint John, the past several months, was the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peder Sivertsen, for a few days before leaving for Toronto where she was accepted a position with the Norweign Air Force.

June 26, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Petty Officer Daryl Paul, R.C.N.V.R., Mrs. Paul and their two children of Saint John have been guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Paul.

    Beaver Harbour: Corporal Frank Patterson of the Provost Corp, Saint John, was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cross.

    Beaver Harbour: Basil Wadlin of the R.C.N.V.R., St. John, and Mrs. Wadlin spent last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wadlin.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Robert Wright returned to Quebec, Monday, after spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wright.

    PENNFIELD BOY IN NEW ARTILLERY UNIT - In a recent contributed by one of the Canadian Press correspondents now in England, reference was made to the newest addition to the Canadian artillery, namely the Bofors anti-aircraft guns and the men who operate them. L. Bdr. Kenneth (Cab) Fraser of Pennfield Ridge was mentioned as one of the expert gunners operating this new weapon. He is a son-in-law of Mrs. Barney Justason of Pennfield.

    Beaver Harbour: Weldon Paul of the R.C.N.V.R., Saint John, spent a few days' leave recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Paul.

July 24, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Louis Hooper was a week-end guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carlie Doucet.

    Beaver Harbour: Corporal Chas. Conley of Fredericton spent the week-end at his home here.

    Beaver Harbour: Chief Perry Officer Charles Suttie of the Royal and Mrs. Suttie of Halifax spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Jesse L. Wright.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Robert Wright of Sussex spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wright.

July 31, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. E.R. O'Brien have received a cable from their son, Ralph, informing them of his safe arrival in England. He is with the R.C.A.F.

August 7, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Gurney Wadlin of the R.C.A.F., was a week-end guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Willard Wadlin.

    Beaver Harbour: Herbert Eldridge of the R.C.N.V.R. spent the week-end with his father, Maurice Eldridge.

August 21, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Dr. and Mrs. Wilbur McNichol and two children of Rothesay, spent last week with her sister, Mrs. Alva Eldridge and Mr. Eldridge. Dr. Nichol is with the R.C.N.V.R., and is now stationed in Saint John.

    Beaver Harbour: Robert Barry of the Royal Canadian Navy spent a few days last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. Orland Wadlin, R.C.A., St. John, spent the week-end at his home here.

    Beaver Harbour: Chief Petty Officer Charles Suttle of the Royal Navy, whose ship was in Saint John recently, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Wright.

    Black's Harbour: Lance Corporal Lauren Wilson spent part of his furlough with his sister, Mrs. Irwin Johnson and Mr. Johnson at Deadman's Harbour.

    Beaver Harbour: At the community picnic held last Wednesday evening on the Basin Bar, over 150 people were present and enjoyed the beautiful moonlight night on the beach and the sing-song with Lorraine Mason and his guitar as accompanist. Mr. Mason is with the R.C.N.V.R., and with Weldon Paul, also of the R.C.N.V.R., visited Mr. and Mrs. Allen Paul for a few days.

    Beaver Harbour: Gilbert Eldridge of the Royal Canadian Navy, whose ship was in Saint John, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Eldridge.

August 28, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Best and daughter, Lura, William Bennett and Edgar Lavoie, R.C.A.F., motored to Halifax last week to visit Roy Best whose ship of the Royal Canadian Navy was in port.

    Beaver Harbour: Corporal Charles Conley of Fredericton spent the week-end at his home here.

    Beaver Harbour: Mrs. Albert Paul, her daughter, Mrs. John Foley of Boston and her sons, Stanley and Corporal Alden Paul, motored to Halifax and also visited relatives in Victoria Beach, N.S., during Mrs. Paul's and Foley's visit here. Accompanied by Mrs. Lester Coletta and children, Violet and Paul, they returned to Boston Friday.

September 4, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Hilton Paul of the Royal Canadian Navy is enjoying a furlough with his father, Albert S. Paul.

    Beaver Harbour: Mrs. Walter Wadlin and her sister, Mrs. Fred Mawhinney, of Mexico, Me., spent a few days last week in St. John, where they visited Gnr. Orland Wadlin, R.C.A., and Basil Wadlin of the R.C.N.V.R.

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. and Mrs. Howard Sparks, and daughter, Deanna, of St. John, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sparks, last Saturday.

    Beaver Harbour: Carl Barry, R.C.A.F, Sydney, N.S., and his bride, formerly Miss Bessie Fleiger, of Chatham, N.B., spend a few days last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Carl Barry of the R.C.A.F., Sydney, N.S., accompanied by his bride, formerly Bessie Fleiger of Chatham, were recently guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W,L, Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Tpr. and Mrs. Milton Barry, who were recently married, spent last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Barry. Trooper Barry is with the 5th Armored Regiment.

    Beaver Harbour: Carmen Eldridge, R.C.N.V.R., Halifax, is enjoying a week's furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clare Eldridge.

    Beaver Harbour: Roy Best of the R.C.N. has three weeks' leave off his ship, and is enjoying a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Best.

    Pennfield: Pte. Robert Maxwell of the Veteran's Guard at Fredericton, spent a few days at his home here.

    Pennfield: Pte. Orlo Akerley and Mrs. Akerley (nee Esther Goodeill)  are receiving congratulations on their recent marriage.

    Pocologan: Cpl. Charles Farquharson and L.-Cpl. Lorne Rogers spent a recent week-end at their home here.

    Pocologan: Bill Shaw, who is stationed with the R.C.A.F. at Quebec City, was one of the group to shake hands with the Duke of Kent recently.

October 8, 1941

    Pennfield: Bertram Cleveland, in training at Halifax, is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Justason.

October 16, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Burwell Nodding of the R.C.N.V.R., Halifax, is spending a few days with his father, Clifford Nodding.

October 30, 1941

    Beaver Harbour: Honoring Carmen Eldridge, R.C.N.V.R., Halifax, who enjoyed a leave recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Eldridge, a few friends and relatives gathered at his home on Friday evening for a going away party. At the close of the pleasant evening, Carmen was made the recipient of an identification braclet.

    Beaver Harbour: Cpl. Charles Conley, Fredericton, spent a few days last week at his home here.

    Beaver Harbour: Mrs. Henry Best entertained a few friends at her home Monday evening, the 13th, for the pleasure of her son, Roy, of the Royal Canadian Navy, who was home on leave for three weeks.

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. Howard Sparks of Saint John spent Sunday with his wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sparks.

    Pennfield: Pte. Robert Maxwell of the Veteran Guard, stationed at Fredericton, spent the week-end at his home here.

    Pennfield: Lt. Jack Golding and Mrs. Golding and two children, Jane and Susie, of St. John, spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.S.R. Justason.

November 6, 1941

    Beaver Harbour:  L. Cpl. Keith Wright of London, Ont., and his wife and baby, have been guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grovenor Wright. Mrs. Preston Wright and small daughter of Saint John were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Grovenor Wright.

    Beaver Harbour: Basil Wadlin, R.C.N.V.R., Mrs. Wadlin and their young son of Saint John are guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wadlin.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Robert Wright of New Glascow and Miss Madelyn Wright of St. Stephen, spent the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wright.

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. E.R. O'Brien received a cable Monday from their son Ralph, who is on active service with the R.C.A.F. in England. He stated he was well and receiving mail regularly.

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Barry have received word of the arrival of their son, Milton, in England. He is serving with the 105th Armored Regiment.

December 11, 1941

    Beaver Harbour:  Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wright enjoyed a motor trip to Sydney, N.S., recently, where they visited their son Pte. Robert Wright, of the N.B. Rangers.

    Beaver Harbour: Sgt. and Mrs. Jack O'Brien of McAdam were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. O'Brien.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Murray Harvie of Fredericton spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arch. Harvie.

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. Lawrence Wadlin is on furlough from service in Newfoundland and enjoying a visit with his mother, Mrs. Charles Wadlin.

    Black's Harbour: Jesse Gaudett, Sr., has received a cable notifying him of the safe arrival in England of his son, James, who is a member of the Canadian Active Army.

    Black's Harbour: Flt.-Sgt. and Mrs. Gordon C. Perry, who were recently married, were visitors in Black's Harbour on Thursday en route to Sydney, N.S., where they will reside. 

December 18, 1941

    Black's Harbour:  L.-Bdr. C.F. Leavitt of the 8th Armoured Regiment is the guest of his mother, Mrs. Feston Leavitt.  

January 1, 1942

    Beaver Harbour:  Gurney Wadlin, R.C.A.F., of St. Huberts, Que., spent Christmas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Willard Wadlin.

    Beaver Harbour: Leonard Barry, R.C.A.F., returned to St. Thomas, Ont., Saturday, having spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Flt. Lieut. and Mrs. Turnbull and sons, Wallace and Thomas, spent Christmas with relatives in Rothesay.

    Beaver Harbour: Cpl. and Mrs. Keith Wright and small son are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grovenor Wright. 

    Beaver Harbour: Gnr. Howard Sparks, R.C.A., Saint John, spent Christmas here with his wife and family.

    Penfield: William S. Dines, who recently joined the R.C.A.F., was a guest of his sister, Mrs. A.G. Theriault, and his nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Leavitt, of Moncton.

    Pennfield: Maurice Justason of the R.C.A.F. spent his holidays at his home here.

    Pennfield: Ross Murray, in training at Fredericton, spent Christmas at his home here.

January 8, 1942

    Beaver Harbour: Cpl. C.T. Conley of the Veterans Guard returned to Fredericton Jan. 3, having spent New Year's with Mrs. Conley at their home.

    Beaver Harbour: Mrs. Frank Patterson and family who spent the past year in Saint John where Cpl. Patterson is in the Provost Corps., returned here last week.

January 15, 1942

    Beaver Harbour: Pte and Mrs. Robert Wright left for their home in Sydney, N.S., the 2nd, having been here to spend New Year's with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wright.

    Black's Harbour: Eric Bradford, of the Provost Corps, and young daughter, of Saint John, have been the guests of his father, V.H. Bradford, Sr.

    Black's Harbour: John and Reginald Justason, Saint John Fusiliers, have been visiting their father, John Justason, Sr.

    Pennfield: William S. Dines of the R.C.A.F. was the recent guest of his brother, Prescott Dines of Letete.

January 22, 1942

    Pennfield: George Hawkins, who is in training at Fredericton, spent a few days at his home here.

January 29, 1942

    Pennfield: Robert Maxwell, who is with the Veteran Guard stationed at Halifax. N.S. is visiting family here.

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. J. Willard Wadlin received a cable from their son, Gurney, recently announcing his safe arrival in Great Britian. Gurney is a wireless operator in the R.C.A.F.

    Beaver Harbour: Friends of Lance Corporal Milton Barry were sorry to learn of his ill health. He is a patient in the Canadian General Hospital, No.7, somewhere in England.

    Beaver Harbour: Cpl. Carl Barry, R.C.A.F, and Mrs. Barry of Sydney, N.S., are guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Eugene Eldridge, R.C.N.V.R., and Miss June Schell of Saint John, spent the week-end with his sister, Mrs. Albert Henry.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Orland Wadlin of the Provost Corps, Mrs. Wadlin and their daughter, Nina, of Saint John returned home Wednesday after spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wadlin.

    Black's Harbour: Corporal Hugh O'Neill, who is stationed with the R.C.A.F. in Newfoundland, is the guest of his sister, Mrs. George Murphy, Black's Harbour, and will visit his mother, Mr. A. O'Neill, at St. Stephen while he is on furlough.

    Black's Harbour: A platoon for the Reserve Army is being recruited in Black's Harbour. Enrollees will be members of the 2nd Battalion Carleton and York Regiment, the reserve army unit which is now being brought up to strength in this section of the Province.
    Lt.Col. M.C. Buchanan, officer commanding the battalion, with Lt. O.A. Rigby of St. Andrews, commanding headquarters company, R.Q.M.S. J.W. Wilson, and C.Q.M.S. Everett Maxwell were in Black's Harbour on Wednesday evening and fifty men were attested and examined. Those accepted were issued uniforms on Thursday evening.
    The men will train two evenings each week and one Sunday afternoon a month to complete the forty-five days of training which are prescribed for 1942. Lt. William J. Walsh is in charge of the the Black's Harbour Platoon.

   Black's Harbour: Robinson Raymond of Digby, N.S., and Hazen Bradford spent the week-end at the latter's home in Blacks Harbour. Both have passed their Wireless tests successfully at the R.C.A.F. School in Saint John and left on Monday to take further training in Montreal.

    Black's Harbour: Miss Rose McKay was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McKay at Pennfield on July 1st. Mr. and Mrs. McKay also had as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Seymour McKay and Mrs. McVicar of St. George, Corporal and Mrs. Jack Allen of Oshawa, and Corporal G.R. Millen of Hamilton, Ont.

    Black's Harbour: Gordon Campbell, principal of the Black's Harbour Superior School for the past four years, is entering the R.C.A.F. on July 15th as a student pilot, and is spending a few days at his home in Bristol.

    Black's Harbour: Corporal and Mrs. Randulf Foss of Toronto are guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pefer Sivertsen.

    Pennfield: About fifteen boys of "The Reserve Army" of Pennfield showed their loyalty and faith on Sunday, October 4, by marching and attending service at the Anglican Church at three p.m. Willard Young was the leader of this group.

October 22, 1942

    Black's Harbour: The many friends of Gordon Perry and Mrs. Perry will be pleased  to hear of his promotion to a W.O. in the R.C.A.F.. Mr. and Mrs. Perry are at present residing in St. Johns, Que.

    Black's Harbour: Sgt. A. Johns of the R.A.F., stationed at Debert, N.S., was a recent visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Victor H. Bradford, Sr.

    Black's Harbour: Cpl. Gladys Justason, physical instructress in the C.W.A.C., has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Justason, and returned recently to Montreal, where she is stationed.

    Black's Harbour: Mrs. Joseph C. Miller (nee Mary K. Stuart) has received a cable from her husband, P.O. Miller, announcing his safe arrival in England.

    Pennfield: Pte. Kenneth Hawkins of the Active Army, spent a few days recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Hawkins.

    Pennfield: Pte. Robert Maxwell, of the Veterans Guard, spent a few days with his family here.

    Pocologan: Walter Campbell left on Monday for Fredericton, where he will undergo military training.

October 29, 1942

    Black's Harbour: Friends of Hazen Bradford will be pleased to learn that he has completed the wireless course at No.1 Wireless School in Montreal, and is now stationed with the R.C.A.F. at North Sydney, N.S.

    Black's Harbour: Sgt. Major H.C. Stewart of the R.C.O.C. has been in Black's Harbour for the past ten days and has finished conducting a class for Truck Drivers. Eleven members of the local platoon, 2nd Bn. Carleton & York (Reserve), attended.

    Black's Harbour: F/Lt. James Allen of the R.C.A.F. is at the home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. David Allen of Black's Harbour, on sick leave. He is stationed at Aylmer, Ontario.

November 5, 1942

    Beaver Harbour: Cpl. C.T. Conley returned to Fredericton Saturday after spending a few days with Mrs. Conley at their home here.

    Black's Harbour: L/Cpl. Martin Bradford, who is stationed in Newfoundland, is spending his furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Bradford.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. Harry Meating, who recently returned from overseas, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Meating, in St. George and was a recent visitor at the home of E.C. Hennessey, Black's Harbour.

    Black's Harbour: L/Cpl. Allen Cook is visiting is parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Cook of Black's Harbour.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. Horace Spray is visiting his mother, Mrs. Daisy Spray.

November 12, 1942

    Beaver Harbour: On Sunday afternoon the service in the church was in keeping with Armistice Day. Poppy wreaths were placed in the church in memory of Austin Holmes and Milford Hawkins, who gave their lives in the first Great War and for P.O. Ralph O'Brien, R.C.A.F.., who lost his life in active service in May, 1942, and for Myrven Nodding of the Merchant Marine, who was lost in 1940 while at sea. Beautiful cut flowers were also placed on the pulpit by Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien in loving memory of their son. The speaker at the service was Rev. George Levy of Kentville, N.S.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. William Gaudet of No.70 Training Centre, Fredericton, is the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gaudet.

    Black's Harbour: Many friends of Cpl. Gladys Justason of the C.W.A.C., stationed in Montreal, will be pleased to hear she has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

    Pennfield: Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Justason were Mrs. Royce Brown and Royce Brown, who is in training somewhere in Canada.

November 19, 1942

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Keith Wright of Fredericton, his wife and young son have been guests at the home of Mrs. L.H. Outhouse.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. Stanley Hatt of No.70 Training Centre in Fredericton, is spending his leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Hatt.

    Pennfield: A.C.2 Bernard Justason, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Justason, who is with the R.C.A.F., spent a few days at his home here.

December 3, 1942

    Black's Harbour: On Friday evening about five o'clock when proceeding in the direction of Black's Harbour, a car driven by Pte. Stewart Coulton left the highway near the Beaver Harbour turn and turned head-on three times coming to rest about one hundred and fifty feet from the place it left the road. The driver and Pte. Edmund Thompson, the other occupant of the car, were shaken up and received minor cuts and bruises. The car was a total wreck, one of the front seats being hurled through the roof. These boys were both visiting at their home in Black's Harbour before going to Halifax.

    Black's Harbour: Fred Walsh, of the R.C.N., is the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Walsh.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. Stanley Hatt has returned to Valcartier, Que., after spending his leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Hatt.

    Black's Harbour: Fusilier and Mrs. Ralph Moses who were married on Saturday, November 28th, are the guests of his father, Joseph Moses.

    Pennfield: Robert Maxwell of the Veterans Guard spent the week-end at his home here recently.

    Pocologan: Cpl. Charlie Farquharson of Saint John spent a few days leave here with his wife and young son.

December 10, 1942

    Beaver Harbour: Mrs. Daryl Polk (nee Betty Wadlin) and small son have taken up residence here while Mr. Polk is in the army.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Foster Eldridge of the 27th Field Artillery, Quebec, is spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guilford Eldridge.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. Eric Bradford of the Provost Corps has returned to his station after visiting his wife and family in Black's Harbour.

    Pennfield: Daryl Polk, who is with the R.C.A., spent a few days with his family.

    Beaver Harbour: L.-Cpl. Frank Patterson, Saint John, spent the week-end with his wife and family here.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Daryl Polk, Fredericton, spent a five day leave recently with Mrs. Polk and their small son here.

    Black's Harbour: L/Cpl. John Lee of Woodstock spent his leave in Black's Harbour, a guest at the Harbourview Hotel.

    Black's Harbour: Lieut. and Mrs. E.O. Chisholm, of Toronto were recent guests of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. David Allen.

    Black's Harbour: Sgt. Hugh O'Neill who is stationed in Moncton, N.B., is spending his leave in Black's Harbour.

    Black's Harbour: Sgt. Hugh O'Neill, who is stationed at Moncton, N.B., was the guest of his sister, Mrs. George Murphy, Black's Harbour, and also visited his mother, Mrs. A. O'Neill, of St. Stephen.

    Black's Harbour: A.C.2 Hazen Bradford, who is stationed at Sydney, N.S., is the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor H. Bradford, Sr.

    Black's Harbour: Murchie Seelye, for two years a member of the Canadian Army, has returned to civilian life due to physical disabilty.

    Pennfield: Bill Mennie of the R.C.A. spent his leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Mennie, and sister, Mrs. Joseph Justason.

February 11, 1943

    Beaver Harbour: P.O. Eugene Eldridge, R.C.N.V.R., spent a fourteen day leave recently with his father, Maurice Eldridge.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. and Mrs. Orland Wadlin and daughter, Nina, of Saint John, were week-end guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wadlin.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. Herbert McCabe of No.70 District Training Centre in Fredericton, spent the week-end in Black's Harbour the guest of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Campbell.

    Black's Harbour: Eugene Theriault of the R.C.N. spent the week-end in Black's Harbour the guest of his mother, Mrs. Ida Theriault.

    Black's Harbour: Friends of Miss Madeline Bennett of Hampton, formerly of Black's Harbour, will be interested to learn she has joined the C.W.A.C.

    Pocologan: Stoker J.E. Enman, on leave at his home in Saint John, was a week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Ward. He was accompanied by Walter Bromley.

    Black's Harbour: Cpl. Jack Donahue, who is with an Anti-Aircraft Battery of the Canadian Army, is spending his leave.

    Pennfield: Raymond Shaw of the R.C.A. was a Sunday guest of his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Shaw.

    Pennfield: Mr. and Mrs. Earl Leavitt of Black's Harbour were Sunday callers at the homes of his uncles, L.A.C. and Mrs. William S. Dines, and Mrs. and Mrs. Foster Quigley.

February 25, 1943

    Beaver Harbour: P.O. Basil Wadlin, Mrs. Wadlin and young son, John, returned to Saint John on Monday after spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wadlin.

    Beaver Harbour: Word has been received here announcing the safe arrival in England of Spr. George Best.

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hawkins recently received news of their son, Floyd. He was safe following the loss of his ship in European waters.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Foster Eldridge of Quebec spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guilford Eldridge.

    Beaver Harbour: A.W.1 K.T. Barry, R.C.A.F. (W.D.) is expected home Tuesday, Feb. 23, to spend two weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Miss Margaret Barry was hostess at a family dinner party Thursday, Feb. 18, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sparks in honor of her brother, Aubrey Barry, who is leaving Tuesday to join the R.C.A.F. Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Barry observed their fourth wedding anniversary and were presented with pieces of china.

    Beaver Harbour: The many friends of Floyd Hawkins are very glad to hear of his safety, after having the ship, of which he was a member of the crew, rammed at sea.

    Pocologan: Sgt. Lorne Rogers of Valcartier, Que., spent the week-end with his father, Charles Rogers.

March 4, 1943

    Qualified Lieutenant: District Orders of M.D. 7 announce that 2/Lt. L.J. Walsh of Black's Harbour, is one of the several officers who have qualified as lieutenants in the Royal Canadian Artillery (A.A.) Active Forces.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. and Mrs. Keith Wright and small son are guests of her <his> parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grovenor Wright for a month.

    Beaver Harbour: Miss Kathleen Barry, R.C.A.F. (W.D.) Trenton, Ont., is spending two weeks' furlough with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barry.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Melvin Wright, who is stationed in Fredericton, is recovering from an illness with mumps.

    Beaver Harbour: Aubrey Barry, who recently enlisted in the R.C.A.F., is now at Lachine, Que. for preliminary training.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Garland Hawkins, who recently joined the forces, is stationed in Fredericton for basic training.

    Blacks Harbour:  Friends in Black's Harbour and St. Andrews will be pleased to hear that Miss Ramona K. Carson has successful completed her training period and is now commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the R.C.A.M.S. Nursing Sister Carson, daughter of Capt. Egbert and Mrs. Carson, of St. Andrews, now stationed at the Military Hospital in Fredericton. She is a graduate of the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton.

March 11, 1943

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Garland Hawkins of the North Shore Regiment, Fredericton, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Almon Hawkins.

    Beaver Harbour: Sgt. Major Leslie Cross of the R.C.A.F. boat "Aristocrat" renewed old acquaintances here over the week-end while the boat was in for harbor.

    Beaver Harbour: Seaman Kenneth Paul of the R.C.N.V.R., Halifax, is spending a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Paul.

    Beaver Harbour: Seaman Edwin Justason, R.C.N.V.R., Halifax, is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Eldridge.

    Black's Harbour: Miss Audrey Hewitt of Black's Harbour and Cpl. Lottie Hewitt of the R.C.A.F. (W.D.) stationed in Newfoundland spent the week-end with friends in St. Stephen and St. Andrews.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Melvin Wright returned to Fredericton Monday, after a few days' leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Wright.

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Garland Hawkins of Fredericton spent a few days this week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hawkins.

    Beaver Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Justason, accompanied by their son, Seaman E. Justason, of the R.C.N.V.R., who have been visiting relatives in Boston, returned here Tuesday morning.

    Black's Harbour: Gnr. Arnold Bowden, who is stationed in Vancouver, left on Friday after visiting his brother, Alfred, and Mrs., Bowden of Black's Harbour.

April 1, 1943

    Beaver Harbour: Petty Officer Eugene Eldridge and Miss June Schell of Saint John were week-end guests of his sister, Mrs. Albert Henry.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. T.A. Bradford who is stationed in Fredericton has returned to his unit after spending his leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myles Bradford.

    Black's Harbour: The many friends of Sgt. Gladys Justason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Justason of Black's Harbour will be pleased to hear she has received another promotion in the C.W.A.C. and is now a Sgt.-Major, stationed at Kitchener, Ontario.

    Blacks Harbour: AC2 James Eastbrooks of the R.C.A.F. was a recent guest of his aunt, Mrs. Chipman Brewer and Mr. Brewer.

    Blacks Harbour: Mr. and Mrs. Warren Justason entertained at their home on Thursday evening in honor of Mrs. Justason's nephew, AC2 James Eastbrooks who left the following day for Quebec. Games and music were enjoyed by the young people after which dainty refreshments were served by the hostess assisted by Mrs. Chipman H. Brewer.

    Pocologan: L.A.C. Bill Shaw of North Bay, Ontario, arrived here on Monday to spend a two week's leave with relatives.

April 8, 1943

    Beaver Harbour: Pte. Lucine Dawson, C.W.A.C., and Pte. Bennen, C.W.A.C., Saint John, were recent guests of Pte. Dawson's sister, Mrs. George Best.

    Pennfield: Capt. Jack and Mrs. Golding and two daughters, Jane and Susie, of Saint John, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. W.S.R. Justason. Capt. Golding, who is with the R.C.A., is spending his leave with his family at Saint John.

    Pennfield: Sgt. Major Gordon Powell of the R.C.A., spent the week-end with his family here.

    Pocologan: L.A.C. Bill Shaw, R.C.A.F., and Benny Williams have returned home after spending a few days with their sister, Mrs. Ray Cameron, Nashwaak Bridge.

    Black's Harbour: Pte. Stanley Hatt, who is stationed at Valcartier, Que., spent a few days recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Hatt.

June 3, 1943

    Pilot Officer, Ralph Connors O'Brien, of Beaver Harbour, buried in North Military Cemetery, Dusseldoff, Germany. Reported missing May of 1942 after Great Raid over Cologne.

December 16, 1943

    L.J. Walsh of Blacks Harbour, Active Army Officer qualified as a Lieutenant.    

September 2, 1943

    Gnr. Edwin Phillip Peabody, of Black's Harbour, wounded in Sicily, served with the Canadian Armoured Corps.

February 24, 1944

    Flight Lt. John Allardyrce Allen, of Blacks, Missing, having failed to return after a raid over Germany early in January. He was Captain of Lancaster bomber with a crew of seven.

June 22, 1946

   Pte. Russell Shaw, Pocologan, wounded in action in Italy; Pte. Wilfred Lovitt, Pocologan, wounded in action.

July 27, 1944

    Lloyd Murray, Pennfield, killed in Normandy, July 4.

August 31, 1944

    Gunner Jesse Frederick Wilcox, Blacks Harbour, killed in action in France, Aug. 13, first of his village to lose his life in present war.

September 7, 1944

   Pte. Robert Wright, Beaver Harbour, wounded in action in France, Aug. 12.

October 26, 1944

   Pte. Roy V. Noddin, St. George, killed in action, Sept. 15 in Italy.
