TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES: P/O Morris and P/O C.A. Geddes were engaged in one gun attack exercises when their Hurricane aircraft collided at 5,000 feet. P/O Gesses bailed out (Hurricane 5734) and landed safely. The other aircraft, Hurricane 5730, went into a spin preventing P/O Morris from bailing out. The aircrafts crashed within 700 yards of each other near Greenwood at Kentville, NS. | ||||

TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES: "At long last the weather eased up some, enabling the first formation, led by P/O Rushmore, to get up off the ground by 10:00 hours. F/O MacDermid was airborne by 10:10 hours with another formation of 10 aircraft to intercept the first section in the Halifax area under Dartmouth control. After the exercise was completed the aircraft landed at Dartmouth to refuel. On the return trip to Greenwood, unfortunately two of the aircraft crashed, killed the two occupants, both students - Sgt. Bellhouse, an Australian, and P/O O'Hanlon, an R.A.F. pilot. The rest of the aircraft landed safely. It was an unfortunate accident and a tough way to end up the flying here at Greenwood. All members of the Detachment feel very keenly about this accident as it is the second last day of flying here." |
