Companions Saved Sergeant In Bomber Crash

St. Albans, VT. (AP) - Three flying companions saved an injured Royal Canadian Air Force sergeant from further harm yesterday when, upon perceiving that their plane was about to crack up in a forced landing, they removed their own safety equipment and packed it about the injured flier.

The action of the men - Charles Scott, a civilian pilot; W.J. Erly, a pilot officer, and Pondeau Jarrotte, a medical officer - was disclosed today by H.R. Landis, head of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization headquarters in St. Albans, who investigated the crack-up in the early morning darkness on the hillside near Barre.

The injured aviator, a Sergeant Grey of the RCAF, who suffered a skull facture and broken ribs in an earlier accident at Chatham, New Brunswick, was being flown to Montreal when the Canadian bomber, with gasoline running low, sought an emergency landing in Vermont, skidding across a hillside garden and striking a tree.

Pilot Scott, who suffered nose laceration, was removed with Sergeant Gray to Barre City hospital. Erly and Jarrotte escaped harm.
