    The choir of the Frances M. McLean Memorial Church entertained members of the R.C.A.F., stationed at Pennfield in the vestry of the church on Tuesday evening. Games and music were enjoyed under the direction of Rev. H.A. Westrup and Mrs. Westrup.

   Mrs. John W. Lucas, accompanied by her small daughter, Miss Janet, is leaving next week for Pennfield Ridge, N.B. to join her husband, Flying-Officer J.W. Lucas, R.C.A.F. who was recently transferred from Rivers, Man.

Black's Harbour

    About twenty members of the R.C.A.F. were guests of a group of young people of the village on a moonlight sail on Wednesday evening under the chaperonage of Mr. and Mrs. James Watt. After visiting Eagle Island where the seining of a weir was in progress under the direction of Everett McConnell, the party proceeded to Fryes Island where a buffet supper was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Walton.

    The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Lester Smallman and little son, in the death of Flight Lieut. W.S.L. Smallman, of the R.A.F., who was stationed at No.2 Air Navigation School Pennfield.

   Sgt. Observer Ted Morgan and Sgt. Observer Peter Mould formerly of England, but now stationed at Pennfield, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Dunham during their leave last week. On Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Frazee entertained at a musical for the pleasure of the two airmen.

Pennfield

   Fire completely destroyed the home of Alvin Young Friday night. The fire started up stairs and had gone beyond control although the fire departments of Black's Harbour and Pennfield Airport were called, they could not check the flames. Only a few articles of furniture were saved.

    At the close of the evening service in St. Mark's Church, Sunday, Oct. 5, Flight Lieut. Coleman, who had charge of the service, Mrs. Coleman and twelve members of the R.C.A.F. of No.2 Air Navigation School, Pennfield, were pleasantly entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Spinney, who were assisted in serving tea and cakes by Mrs. A. Southard and Miss Lala O'Brien.

   The members of the Granite Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, No. 15, were hostess of Thursday evening last, for members of the R.C.A.F. of No.2 A.N.S., stationed at Pennfield. Dancing cards and signing were enjoyed. Refreshments were served by Mrs. J.O. Spinney, Mrs. Frank Chaffey, Mrs. H. Cawley, Mrs. H. Grant, Mrs. H. Brown, Mrs. E.M. Tabor, Mrs. J.O. Neilsen, and Miss Dorcas Brown.

CRASH DEAD IDENTIFIED
Three Canadians Among Four Killed at Great Village

    Debert, N.S., October 24 - The command of the Royal Air Force Navigation School here today issued the names of four men killed in the crash of a twin-engine plane at Great Village, 15 miles from here, early yesterday.

    The men killed were:

    PO. Charles Beeching O'Hanley, Yarmouth, N.S.

    PO. Richard Aubrey Luard, Burford, Ont.
 
    Sgt. Robert Frederick Kelly, Toronto.

    Sgt. Norman Leonard, Hornsey, England.

    Four other fliers from Debert were killed in another plane which crashed yesterday, near Montreal. Their names were issued in Montreal late last night. Of the eight men killed, six were Canadians, the other two British.

   Purivs Norwood of the R.C.A.F. came up from Pennfield for the weekend and Robert Mungall came down from the R.C.A.F. in Moncton to his home in town.

Beaver Harbour

   The annual roll call of members of the Baptist church was held on Tuesday evening, October 28th. Rev. Mr. Allaby of the Charlotte St. West church was the guest speaker and he delivered a splendid sermon. Lic. Fockler of the R.C.A.F. stationed at Pennfield offered prayer.
    Dennison Guptill and Mrs. Irwin Johnson of Black's Harbour each sang a solo and Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Westrup sang a duet. The service was well attended and the offering was over $105.00
    Following the service the singers, Mr. and Mrs. Westrup, Mr. Allaby, Mr. Fockler and several others were guests of Mrs. G. Wm. Cross and Mrs. L.H. Outhouse at the latter's home.

   Millan McConnell, dietitian at the Military hospital at the Pennfield airport, is spending a few days at Prince Edward Island. On his return trip he will be accompanied by Mrs. McConnell, and two children, who will remain some time at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Justason, Sr.

  The usual weekly dance was held in the Community Hall on Friday evening under the auspices of the Women's Institute with Mrs. James Watt and Miss Almeda Campbell as conveners. The dance was well attended with several members of the R.C.A.F. at Pennfield were present.
