Pennfield

    Work on the Pennfield airport is going on steadily. Many changes have been made in that section during the past month. Land has been cleared, and three buildings including the Ridge school house have been moved, the school house and Ernest McDowell's house to the opposite side of the road and Ernest Hawkins' house about one mile out the road.

St. George

    While employed at the airport in Pennfield, Willard Akerley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Akerley of this place, suffered a painful accident. A bullet from a .22 rifle struck him in the leg, just below the knee. He was taken to the St. John General Hospital for X-ray and the bullet was extracted. The source of the bullet in unknown. It is presumed it came from a hunter's gun in a nearby woods. Willard returned home on Monday.

AKERLEY, WILLARD EUGENE - Of Manawagonish Road, died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on July 11, 2005. Born in St. George, he was the son of the late Aubrey and Ethel (Williamson) Akerley. He was employed with the City of Saint John (Maintenance Dept) for 28 years until his retirement in 1983. He is survived by his wife, Elsie May (Campbell) Akerley; two sons, William "Bill" Akerley (Marjorie) and Aubrey Akerley (Doreen); three daughters, Marilyn Murphy (Robert), Ruth McQuinn (David), and Krista Galbraith (Ross). Also survived by two sisters, Margaret Richardson (Robert) and Jane Fornier, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by one brother James Akerley and two grandchildren, Edward Akerley and Tiffany Murphy.
Resting at A.W. Cavanagh Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street with visiting on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from Cavanagh's Chapel followed by burial in Ocean View Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

St. George

    Oscar Baldwin, C.E.M. who has been employed at the Airport at Pennfield, returned on Monday to Moncton with his wife and daughter, Patsy.
