Shiretown Items (The Week at St. Andrews)

Some Smarties from the Pennfield Air Force are again at large in planes, diving though our door yards and skimming about the town below the tree tops. If this low flying is an essential part of their training, why don't they stick to the wide open spaces rather than to terrify women and children about town with their antics. If they are just trying to show how smart they are they fail in their purpose as no one knows who they are. A better way would be write a piece of paper stating how clever they are and sign their names. The public would gladly take their word for it rather then ask for proof. If their object is to be funny they must have been rather depraved sense of humour. One day recently a plane which had been diving about town for half an hour was reported to have crashed near a weir just outside the harbour. A motor boat was commandeered and rushed to render first aid, but no plane was found. Men at the weir said it took a dive at them and then sailed out through Latete1.
