Air Navigation School Transfer Is Explained

Ottawa, May 13 - CP - Clouds hang high over the airport at Pennfield Ridge in New Brunswick - too high to serve the needs of the air navigation school there, Conservative House Leader Hanson told members of the House of Commons today.

Mr. Hanson said Air Minister Power had indicated in the House yesterday that the field could not be used for the purposes for which it was designed.

The Conservative House Leader added he understood the navigation school had been moved to Rivers, Man., from Pennfield Ridge because it was not possible to see the stars often enough at the latter field.

"I understand it was not advantageous to use the location for the purpose it was intended, because of the height of the clouds which goes from two to three miles," Mr. Hanson said. "That ought to be made clear on the record," Mr. Hanson said.

"I stand corrected," Maj. Power replied.

Mr. Hanson asked what use was to be made of the "very expensive" plant at Pennfield Ridge.

Maj. Power said "it is being used for operational training."
