MORDEN, WINNIFRED JEAN - Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on May 14, 2003, Mrs. Winnifred Jean (Ellis) Morden, wife of John C. Morden of 239 McCarthy's Point Road, Pocologan, NB.
    Born in Saint John, NB April 17, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Mark and Gertrude M. (Sparks) Ellis. A loving wife and mother, she is survived, besides her husband, by one son, John (Gisele) Morden of Halifax, Nova Scotia and two grandchildren, Tracy and Scott Morden, also of Halifax, NS; one sister, Frances Leighton of Oromocto, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB, with visiting on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held on Saturday at 2 pm from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel at the Funeral Home, followed by interment in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the donor's choice will be appreciated by the family.

GIGGIE, DOROTHY T. - Peacefully at her residence in Blacks Harbour, NB on April 1, 2003, Mrs. Dorothy T. Giggie, wife of the late Philip E. Giggie of 40 Deadman's Harbour Road, Blacks Harbour. Born in St. George, NB on September 17, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Marguerite (Leonard) Maxwell. A loving mother and grandmother, Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Eleanor, Mrs. A. John Van de Sande of Quispamsis, Donna Giggie of Blacks Harbour, and Janet, Mrs. Dale MacElwain of Woodstock, NB; seven grandchildren, Patricia, Suzanne, Barbara, Joanne, David, Peter and Rachel; six great-grandchildren, Meagan, Maxwell, John, Elizabeth, Thomas and Spencer; one sister, Frances Allen; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pre-deceased by five sisters, Edith Maxwell, Flora Henderson, Grace Simpson, Lt. Col. Pauline Maxwell and Ethel Thomas. Prior to her retirement, Dorothy worked as switchboard operator for Connors Bros. Ltd. for over 30 years.
    Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held at The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Thursday at 11 am with Rev. Fred Snyder officiating. Interment in Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring. In Dorothy's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.

HANDELAND, GEORGE SVERRE - Of Blacks Harbour, died at his residence on April 18, 2003. He was born in Norway and was the son of the late Kristen and Gertrude Handeland and husband of the late Jackie (Rarden) Handeland. He is survived by three children, Cindy, Donnie, Joe and several grandchildren. Also survived by one brother Clarence Handeland (Katherine), two sisters Sonja Glionna and Dagney Snow. Predeceased by one sister Sylvia Armstrong.
    Following cremation a memorial service will take place at the United Pentecostal Church in Blacks Harbour on Friday April 25, 2003 at 2 pm with Rev. Vernon Bustard officiating. Interment to follow the service in the Pennfield Cemetery. Donations to the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to A.W. Cavanagh Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street.

WALSH, DANA EOLA - Unexpectedly at the K.W. Health Center of Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario, on May 4th, 2003, Mrs. Dana Eola (Mitchell) Walsh of 8 Snyder Avenue, Elmira, Ontario, wife of the late Ray K. Walsh, formerly of Blacks Harbour, NB. Born in Back Bay, NB on March 17, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ella (Leavitt) Mitchell. Dana is survived by a special nephew, Jeffrey Holland (Janet) of St. Clements, Ontario; four grand-children, Nicole, Jody, Shawn, and Kelly; two brothers, Sam (Erma) and Thomas Mitchell, both of Back Bay, NB. She was pre-deceased, besides her husband, by one daughter, Susan Sellers. Dana had been employed by Connors Brothers as a packer for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour for many years. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB. The service will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour on Friday at 2 pm, followed by interment in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Calvary Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.

PRATT, WALTER MOWRY - of Pennfield. Son of the late Dr. C. M. Pratt and Elthea MacDowell Pratt passed away June 1, 2003. Walter was predeceased by his wife Laura (Young) Pratt. He is survived by his two daughters Lucille (Robert) Thorne of Hammond River and Maria Wilband of Pennfield. His brother Charles (Donna) Pratt and niece Heather (Peter) Adams of Saint John and several other nieces and nephews. His step grandchildren Christine Thorne of Hammond River, Robbie (Gail) Thorne of Alberta, Troy (Tina) Thorne of Alberta, and David (Carrie) Thorne of Saint John. Walter was a school teacher who joined the Air Force in 1958 and retired with the rank of Captain in August of 1974. After retiring, to keep active he delivered mail along Pennfield Ridge. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and wood working. He will be missed by cousins Jack and Ernest MacDowell of Pennfield and all who knew him. Walter's walk through life will be greatly missed by many, and may the Good Lord take a liking to him. Burial will take place Thursday, June 5, 2003 at 3 p.m. beside his wife at Community Cemetery on Pennfield Ridge.

CHAMBERS, FRANCES ELIZABETH - Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB, June 5, 2003, surrounded by her family, Frances Elizabeth Chambers, wife of the late Walter W. Chambers, of Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, and formerly of Pennfield, NB. Born in Pennfield, NB on November 10, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Lottie (Justason) Murray. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by one son, Burton (Helene) Chambers of Pennfield, two daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Eldon Hanley) of Pennfield, and Edra (Mrs. Michael Tucker) of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Blair Murray (Lillian) of Canal, NB; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Madeline Murray of Pennfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by two brothers, Ross and Lloyd, and one sister, Doris Murray. Frances enjoyed knitting, and was a member of the Pennfield Baptist Church and the Fundy Tide Seniors. The family would like to thank management and staff, and many friends at Passamaquoddy Lodge for making Mom's stay enjoyable.
    Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 and Saturday at the Pennfield Baptist Church from 10 - 12 noon. The service will be held at the church on Saturday at 2 pm, followed by interment in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. BROWN, OLIVE - Unexpectedly at home, on June 15, 2003, Mrs. Olive Lambert (English) Brown, wife of E. Raye Brown of Pennfield, NB. Born on August 20, 1915, at Lambert's Cove, Deer Island, NB, she was a daughter of the late Roderick Dyer English and Blanche Dora (Lambert) English. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Olive is survived, besides her husband, by two daughters, Rebecca (Bert) Anthony of Pennfield, NB, Natalie (Morris) Harris of Blacks Harbour, NB; 4 grandchildren, Andrew (Tammy) Anthony of Pennfield, NB, Leigh-Ann (Kenneth) Richardson of Leonardville, Deer Island, NB, Laura Harris (Jeff Tucker) of Saint John, NB and Brent Harris of Blacks Harbour, NB; one great-granddaughter, Rachel Richardson of Deer Island, NB; one sister, Louise Calder of St. George, NB; two nephews, Edmund (Doreen) Calder of Jemseg, NB and David (Heather) English of Fredericton, NB. She was pre-deceased by one brother, Rupert English. Olive was a member of the NBTA Retired Teachers (having served 30 years in the profession), The Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #39 of Blacks Harbour, the Brunswick Curling Club, and was a life-long member of the Lambert's Cove Baptist Church.
    Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, with visiting on Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm. The service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 pm from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. HAWKINS, THOMAS ALMON "Tommy" - Peacefully at his residence, following a brief illness, Thomas Almon Hawkins, husband of Anita P. (Young) Hawkins, loving husband and father, went home to be with his Savior on Sunday, June 15th , 2003. Born in St. Stephen, NB on November 21, 1948, he was a son of the late Almon and Elizabeth Ann (McDermott) Hawkins. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived, besides his wife, by three daughters, Tammy (Mark) Lord of Fredericton, NB, Georgette Hawkins (Clay) of Pocologan, Mary Ellen (Randy) Bayers of Pennfield; two sons, John Hawkins of Pennfield, Kyle (Christa) Green of Mascarene; one step-daughter, Sheila (Hal) Hardy of Pennfield; 11 grandchildren, Brandon, Nathaniel, Emma, Chris, Kylee, Alexis, Emily, Shelby, Ryan, Vanessa, and Cody; three brothers, Harry and John (Phyllis) of Ontario and Arnold of Beaver Harbour; four sisters, Clara Turner of Ontario, Glenna Leighton of Pennfield, Delores Beers of Ontario and Lorraine (Bill) Stafford of Ontario; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pre-deceased by two sisters, Mary Irish and Vera French; three brothers, Adolphus Hawkins, Garland Hawkins and Raymond White. Tommy enjoyed travelling and feeding his birds. He was an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Fundy Weir Fisherman's Association.

 LEAVITT, LESLIE ALDEN - Unexpectedly at his residence in Pennfield, NB on June 18, 2003, Mr. Leslie Alden Leavitt, husband of Della (Currie) Leavitt.

Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 will be holding a Tribute Service at the Funeral Home on Friday at 7:00 pm followed by a Masonic Tribute at 7:15 pm.

HUGHES, DARRELL WINSTON "Dick" - At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB, on July 1, 2003, Mr. Darrell (Dick) Winston Hughes, of 500 Route 785, Utopia, NB. Born in Glenvale, NB, on July 20, 1937, he was a son of the late C. Percy and Freda Bell (Graves) Hughes. A loving father and brother, Dick is survived by one daughter, Faye Guthrie (Ryan McLeod) of Utopia; two grandchildren, Melissa and Adam Guthrie; one brother, Earl (Margaret) Hughes of Portage Vale, NB; one sister, Myrna (James) Templeton of New Lowell, Ontario; one half-sister, Linda Blanchard of Utopia, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Gregory Hughes. Dick had many occupations including heavy equipment operator and truck driver in Alberta and New Brunswick and was a former grounds-keeper at UNB in Fredericton, NB.
    By his request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Cheney officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. BRIGHT, EVA MAE - Peacefully at the palliative care unit Saint John Regional Hospital with her family present on July 17, 2003, Mrs. Eva Mae (Chase) Bright wife of the late Joseph E. Bright of Pocologan, NB. Born in Pocologan on January 22, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Stella (Dixon) Chase. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by one daughter, Marjorie, Mrs. Robert Bodaly of Saint John, one grandson, Stephen and his wife Darlene of Saint John, one great granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn and one great grandson, Kody William both of Saint John; four sisters, Annie Hardie, of Saint John, Kathleen Campbell and Mildred Boyd both of Pocologan, and Marion Boyd of Pennfield, several nieces, nephews. Predeceased by eight sisters and five brothers. Eva was an avid gardener who enjoyed her garden, prior to her retirement, she had worked for Connor's Brothers in Blacks Harbour for 22 years as well as custodian for the Board of School Trustees at Pocologan School for seven years.

BOYD, MILDRED CATHERINE "Millie" - Peacefully, at the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Saint John, NB, on August 19, 2003, Mrs. Mildred Catherine (Campbell) Boyd, aged 88, wife of the late Leighton R. Boyd, of Pocologan, NB. Born in Digby, NS on February 5, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Edward C. and Stella Rosnell (Dickson) Campbell. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Millie is survived by two daughters, Eileen Babineau (Leon) of Pocologan, NB and Mary Graham of Saint John, NB; one son, Terry Boyd (Laurie) of Second Falls, NB; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; three sisters, Annie Hardy of Saint John, NB, Marion Boyd of Pennfield, NB and Kathleen Campbell of Pocologan, NB. She was pre-deceased by one son, Leonard L. Boyd and one daughter, Margaret Rose Ryan; five brothers and eight sisters. Before her retirement, Millie was employed by the Shaw Ellis Clam Factory. She loved her family and friends, and enjoyed spending time sewing and quilting. In her latter years, she enjoyed watching the ladies in the Friendly Circle Quilting Club.
    Resting at the Pocologan Baptist Church from where the service will be held on Friday at 2 pm with Rev. Grant Alcorn officiating, followed by interment in Pennfield Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the church on Thursday from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. In Millie's memory, donations to Charlotte County Cancer Society or charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. COOK, MAURICE GILBERT - Peacefully, at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB on September 6, 2003, Maurice Gilbert Cook , 83, husband of Thelma T. (Maxwell) Cook of Pennfield, NB.
    Born at Blacks Harbour, NB on December 18, 1919, he was a son of the late Mayberry and Elizabeth (Lovatt) Cook. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Maurice is survived by seven daughters, Rose Mahar (Roger) of Blacks Harbour, Eunice Scott (Claude), Bernice Cook (Stephen), Judy McGarrigle (Wayne) all of Pennfield, Margaret Brohm (Steve) of Sharon, Ont, Pam Palk of Blacks Harbour and Barbara Leavitt of Beaver Harbour; one son Dale C (Gwen) of Norton, NB; one sister Marg Galvin of Hamilton, Ont; one son-in-law Wayne Gardiner; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joan Gardiner and grandson Nathan McGarrigle.
    Maurice enjoyed being around his family and the company of people. He especially enjoyed his woodpile and wildlife. He had been employed at Connors Brothers Ltd. for over 40 years and was a veteran of WWII having served in Italy, North Africa and Spain having been wounded in action.

Interment will follow at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. THERIAULT, CORA MAE - Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on September 7th, 2003, following a brief illness, Mrs. Cora Mae (Stanton) Theriault, wife of Herbert Theriault of Utopia, NB. Born on August 20, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Lizzie (Height) Stanton. A loving wife, aunt and special aunt, she is survived by her husband of 75 years, Herbert; two nieces, Elizabeth Kingston (wife of the late Charles Kingston) of Pennfield, Hazel (Mrs. Harold Gillespie) of Utopia; special great-niece, Veronica (Mrs. Roger St. Onge) of St. George; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Cora was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Curtis and Burwell, two sisters Rita and Hilda. Cora was employed in the Labeling Room at Connors Bros. Ltd. for over 20 years. In her early years, she loved knitting and crocheting, and enjoyed baking. She was a member of the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church.

BORTHWICK, LAURA MAE - Unexpectedly, at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on October 16, 2003, Mrs. Laura Mae (Oliver) Borthwick, NB, wife of the late John E. Borthwick, of Back Bay, NB.
    Born in Bethel, NB on June 26, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Eva Pearl (Fisher) Oliver. A loving mother and grandmother, Laura is survived by her companion, Tom Mitchell of Back Bay; two sons, Alfred (Blanche) Borthwick of Back Bay, NB and David (Sheila) Borthwick of Kelly Road, NB; one daughter-in-law, Mary Borthwick of St. George; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Oliver of Second Falls; one sister, Joyce Stuart of Deer Island; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John, and one son, Burton.
    Laura was an avid crotchetier. She loved her car and traveling. She was the St. Croix Courier correspondent for the Back Bay news.

JUSTASON, DOROTHY JANE - Te death of Dorothy Jane Justason, of Magazine Street, Saint John, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 18th, 2003. Born on Campobello Island, she was the wife of the late Harold W. Justason and daughter of the late Albert and Mary Pauline (Calder) Lank. Dorothy lived in Black's Harbour for many years, where she worked for Connors Bros Ltd. and was past President of the Women's Liberal Association.
    Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Doak (Charles) of Rothesay, NB, one brother, Harold W. Justason Jr. of Scarborough, ON, one sister, Elizabeth Lewrey of Florida, grandchildren: Susan, Tanya and Daniel Justason, D. Jayne Brodersen (Philip), Shona Stubbs (Peter), Lisa Cameron (Daniel), Shelley Dauphinee (Timothy) and step-granddaughter, Marlene O'Neill, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
    She was predeceased by one sister, Florence Newman and three brothers, Vincent, Ralph and Alexander Lank.
    Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, with visitation on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21st, 2003 at 1:00 PM, in the chapel at Brenan's Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Pennfield Rural Cemetery. COX, TERRY DOUGLAS - Unexpectedly, at Pocologan, NB, on November 27, 2003, Mr. Terry Douglas Cox, of Pocologan. Born in Saint John, NB on November 17, 1961, he was a son of Rita (Cormier) and the late Douglas Cox. Besides his wife, Cindy, he is survived by his mother; one son, Jason; one daughter, Tara; three brothers, Wayne, Randy (Denise), all of Lepreau, NB and Stephen (Becky) of New River, NB; one sister, Mary Allen (Kenneth) of Pennfield, NB; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and one great-niece.

Born in Hampton, NB on November 25, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Frederick Walter and Grace (Redstone) Wilson. A loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Grace is survived by one son, Gordon (Louise Clare) of Blacks Harbour, NB, one grandson, Kaleb Johnson, one granddaughter, Kate Johnson, all of Blacks Harbour, one brother, Laurin (Gladys) of Rothesay, NB, one sister, Faith Edwards (Beverly) of Darlings Island, NB, several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Irwin, she was predeceased by three brothers, Bernard, Charles, and Edward, and one sister, Annie. Grace was devoted to her faith, family, and friends. She was a member of the Calvary United Baptist Church Choir, for more than fifty years, a member of the Women's Missionary Society, and the Willing Workers. She doted on her grandchildren and loved to travel. She was an avid gardener, and loved flowers.

A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother she will be sadly missed by her daughter Carol Hatt (Eddie) of Pennfield, NB; two sons Marvin (Tracy) and Larry (Yvette) all of Blacks Harbour, NB; six grandchildren Paul Hatt (Jackie) of NS, Duane Scott (Susan) of Pennfield, Trudy Mahar (Randy) of Alberta, Amanda Scott of Edmonton, Jamie Scott of Pennfield and Bambi Scott (Jason) of Alberta; seven great grandchildren Chris Hatt, Stacie Hatt, Krysten Scott, Mathew Scott, Jessica Scott, Fallon Mahar and Alexandar Mahar; two brothers Charles and Guy McLaughlin; three sisters Joyce, Elva and Gracie; several nieces, nephews and cousins.     Born on Campobello Island, NB on February 7, 1922, he was a son of the late Harry Elton Brown and Elsie Maude (Carter) Brown. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ernest is survived by seven daughters, Kathleen (Lester) Legacy of New River, NB, Ernestine (Paul) Saulnier of Metaghan, NS, Brenda (George) Tweety of Oshawa, ON, Olive (Eldon) Fox of Canterbury, NB, Pam (Blake) Doucette of Pennfield, NB, Mary (Glen) Dow of Nackawic, NB, and Dorothy (Wilfred) McAdam of Seeley’s Cove, NB; two sons, Ernest Jr. of New River, NB and Ronald (Dawn) of Quispamsis, NB; six sisters, Hazel Newman, Beatrice Archer, Dorothy Haggerty, Florence Miller (Philip), Marie Murphy and Adrianne Cline (Michael); 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.
    Ernest served from 1939 – 1945 in the Canadian Army in France, Germany and Normandy. He worked for Security at Connors Bros. Ltd. in Blacks Harbour. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors.

A very loving uncle, he is survived by nieces Beverly and Irene of Norway, Inez Daley and Rita Haight, both of Nova Scotia, Elizabeth Kingston of Pennfield, NB, and Hazel Gillespie (Harold) of Utopia, NB; nephews, Clyde Stanton of Los Angeles, CA and Carmen Stanton of Granville, NS; several great-nieces and great-nephews, and his 'most special house keeper in the world’, Lisa Breau of Pennfield, NB. Besides his loving wife Cora, he was pre-deceased by two brothers, Gordon and Vernon; three sisters, Marjorie, Inez and Lena. Herbie was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
    Herbie was a long time member of the Wesleyan Church in Blacks Harbour. He was a self-employed fisherman for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved eating lobster. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling.

ELDRIDGE, VIDA GRACE - The death of Mrs. Vida Eldridge, age 99 years, wife of the late Harold F. Eldridge, occurred on Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Loch Lomond Villa Nursing Home, Saint John, NB.
    Born February 9, 1905 in Saint John, a daughter of the late Sidney and Emily (Burgess) Gibbs, graduated from Saint John High School, worked for NB Telephone Company, the Registered Nurses Association, the Red Cross, the National Film Board and Centracare. Vida was a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church and Beaver Harbour Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and doing needlepoint. Vida and Harold enjoyed many years of traveling and entertaining their many friends.
    Survived by her daughter, Barbara and son-in-law, Ernest Eldridge; granddaughter, Miriam Hartley) Avery; grandson, Tom (Marsha) Eldridge; great-grandchildren, Heather Avery, Cailin (Corey) Richard and Devon Eldridge and special caregiver, Gloria Perrin. Predeceased by her husband, parents and sister, Vera Fairbrother.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Lorne is survived, besides his wife, by three sons, Lorne Jr. “Sonny” (Pam) of Halifax, NS, Colin (Ruth) of Pennfield, NB, Frank (Norene) of Blacks Harbour, NB; four daughters, Brenda (Norman) Gaudet of Pennfield, NB, Lorna (Gorman) Harris of Utopia, Mary Bustard of Langley, BC, Coralee Sommerville of Baxter’s Corner, NB; 19 grandchildren, 13 great – grandchildren; five brothers, James McGarrigle, Kenny McGarrigle, Gerald McGarrigle, all of Blacks Harbour, NB, Everett McGarrigle of Tracadie, NB, and Wesley McGarrigle, of St. Stephen, NB; three sisters, Florence Leavitt of Back Bay, NB, Doris Nason, of St. George, NB, and Emma Maillet, of Blacks Harbour, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins.     Lorne worked for 54 years for Connors Bros. Ltd. as a labourer. For the last 15 years of his working career, he worked at the Fundy Arena until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan and took active part in the local sports circuit, having been one of the founding fathers of the Blacks Harbour Silver Kings and former owner of the Blacks Harbour Junior Silver Kings. He also was Head Coach and General Manager for the former Blacks Harbour Brunswick's Baseball Team for many years. He enjoyed fishing and claming and was an honorary member of the Charlotte Fundy Kins Club.

PARKS, TILLEY BEACHER - The death of Tilley Beacher Parks, Manor Road, St. George, NB, husband of Mildred Lillian (Leavitt) Parks, occurred on September 7, 2004 at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB. Born in St. George, NB on September 8, 1924, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Ethel (Seamans) Parks.
    A veteran of WWII, Tilley served in Europe, France, Belgium and England with the Calgary Highlanders Canadian Infantry Company 6 Platoon. He was a plumber by trade.
    Surviving besides his wife, Mildred, are five sons, Larry Parks (Bonnie), Michael, both of St. George, Richard (Sally), Robert (Penny), and James, all of Manor Road, Canal; one daughter, Brenda Hanley (Carl) of Back Bay; one brother, Hazen of St. George; two sisters, Sadie Calder of Deer Island and Alberta Cooke (Carson) of L’Etang; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Lori Jane; four brothers, Hughie, Raymond, Douglas and Robert; and four sisters, Lila, Ethel, Rose and Lilly.

ELDRIDGE, GILBERT EDWIN" "Gib" - The death of Mr. Gilbert "Gib" Edwin Eldridge, husband of Amy Mary (Birch) Eldridge occurred unexpectedly at his residence in Beaver Harbour, NB on Wednesday October 6, 2004.
    Born in Beaver Harbour, NB on July 21, 1919, he was a son of the late Oscar and Mildred (Cross) Eldridge. Gib worked as a Fisheries Officer, over 35 years, covering St. Andrews and St. George, NB. A survivor of the Trentonim, Gib served overseas with the Navy, in WWII. A member of the Blacks Harbour Legion, Branch # 39. Surviving besides his wife Amy, is a son Allan Eldridge (Dawn) of St. George, NB., one sister Myrtle (Honey) Ralston of Beaver Harbour, three grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, and Wendy, four nieces, Norma, Hazel, Cindy, and Faye.
    Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB, with visiting on Thursday October 7, 2004, from 7 to 9 pm. The service will be held at The Gary E. STEEN, BLANCHE MAE - The death of Mrs. Blanche Mae Steen, age 83, wife of William Allan Steen, occurred on Sunday, October 24, 2004, at her residence in Breadalbane, NB.
    Born in Lubec, Maine, on December 8, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Maxwell Percy and Charlotte Lottie (Patterson) Wilcox. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, William; a son, Russell (Olive) of Breadalbane, NB; a daughter, Sheila McCourt (David) of Arden, ON; three grandchildren, Patrick McCourt, Julie Morrison (Colin), and Diane Scharfenberg; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ellen Scharfenberg; two sisters, Alberta Lane and Lena Donohue; two brothers, Irvin Wilcox and Max Wilcox. Blanche was a member of the St. George Baptist Church.

RICHARDSON, NAOMIE FRANCES "Nonie" - The death of Naomie Frances (Urquhart) Richardson, of Blacks Harbour, NB, wife of the late Albert Gilman Richardson, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on November 15, 2004. Born in Castalia, Grand Manan, NB on April 28, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Otis and Cora (Fleet) Urquhart. A beloved mother and grandmother, Naomie is survived by one daughter, Audrey (Sheldon) Wilcox of Pennfield; three sons, Clinton (Joan) of St. Stephen, Austin (Mary) of Blacks Harbour, Hanley (Kay) of Greentown, Indiana; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Ruth (Weldon) Theriault and Lillias (Melvin) Justason, all of Pennfield. She was pre-deceased by one brother, Gordon (Anna) Urquhart.
    Resting at the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church from where the service will be held on Wednesday, November 17th at 2:00 pm, with Rev. SCOTT, CLAUDE FRANCIS - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB, on November 17, 2004, following a lengthy illness, Mr. Claude Francis Scott, husband of Eunice S. (Cook) Scott of Pennfield, NB.
    Born in Honey Dale, NB on March 4, 1949, he was a son of Madeline A. (McLaughlin) and the late Melvin Scott.
    A loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, he is survived besides his wife, by his mother, Madeline; one son, Greg (Joanne) Scott of Blacks Harbour; one daughter, Jennifer Scott of Pennfield; four grandchildren, Kendall, Caleb, Kala and Kristy; three brothers, Eric (Emily) Scott of Pennfield, Brian Scott of Fredericton, James (Mary) of Blacks Harbour; three sisters, Melva Murray of Blacks Harbour, Brenda (Malcolm) Tucker of Pennfield and Juliette Scott of St. Stephen; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Claude was pre-deceased by two brothers, Allan and Stephen.
    Claude had been employed with Connors Brothers Ltd. for over 30 years as a By-products Operator at the Fish Meal Plant. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors.

WILLIAMS, ARTHUR EDWARD "Artie" - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on January 12, 2005, Mr. Arthur Edward Williams, in his 57th year, husband of Lois Arlene (Beney) Williams of Pocologan, NB.
    Artie was born in Saint John on February 12, 1948, and was a son of the late Ulmont (Benny) Arthur Williams and Doris Melvina (Justason) Williams.
    A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Artie is survived, besides his wife, by one daughter, Lori (Junior Burt) of Pocologan; two sons, Michael (Daphne) Williams of St. George and Russell Williams of Pocologan; three grandchildren, Kyle Gagnon, Julia Gagnon and Emma Williams; one sister, Nancy (Mrs. Donald Waugh) of Saint John; two aunts, Louise (Art) Gillmor of Bonny River and Clara McLean of New River; three uncles, Maurice Justason of Oromocto, Ernest Justason of Red Head and Murray Justason of Sussex; several cousins, two nieces and two nephews. He was pre-deceased by one daughter, Mary Eileen.
    Artie had been an employee at the Atlantic Sugar Refinery for 16 years. Artie was an avid hunter, flounder fisherman and enjoyed outdoor activities, especially at his camp. At Artie’s request, there will be no visiting at the funeral home.
    A memorial service will be held at the funeral home in The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 15th at 2 pm, with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating.

SPICER, MALBY LEASON - Surrounded by his loving family, the death of Malby Leason Spicer, husband of Mary Laura (Tidd) Spicer, occurred at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB on January 14, 2005.
    Born in Harbourville, NS on February 26, 1924, he was a son of the late Emerson Lorne and Alice Christine (Swindul) Spicer.
    Malby is survived, besides his wife, by one daughter, Sharon (Neil) Boudreau of Beaver Harbour; three sons, Ronald (Mary Lou) of St. Stephen, Bedford (Paula) and Robert (Heather), all of Beaver Harbour; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Ogilvy of Harbourville, NS and Alice (Carmen) Hazelwood of Kingston, NS; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by one daughter, Glenna.
    Malby worked as a Foreman for Connors Bros. Ltd. in Beaver Harbour for 34 years. A loving father, grandfather and family man, he loved playing the guitar and singing in the choir of the Beaver Harbour Baptist Church, of which he was a member.

JUSTASON, EDWIN WILLIAM "Eddie" - The death of Edwin William Justason, 90, of Pennfield, husband of 59 years to Avril (Wright) Justason, occurred at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on January 27, 2005.
    Born in Beaver Harbour, NB on December 23, 1914, he was a son of the late Edwin Colin and Alma Gertrude (Eldridge) Justason. Besides his wife, Avril, Edwin is survived by three daughters, Marsha Duncan (Daniel) of Oakville, ON, Denise Stewart (Wayne) of Pennfield, and Geraldine Rogers (James) of Saint John; one sister, Hilda Smith of Florida; and seven grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by one brother, Harold and two sisters, Muriel and Leila.
    For over 30 years, Edwin worked at various jobs for Connors Bros. Ltd. in Blacks Harbour. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #39, Blacks Harbour for 50 years, and was a member of the Pennfield Lions Club. He had a great love of hockey, and was a coach to many children in the intramural ages from youngsters to teens. He also had a passion for watching football on TV.
    The service will be held from The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB, on Sunday, January 30th, at 2 pm, with Rev. McGARRIGLE, JAMES MATTHEW "Jimmy" - Peacefully, at the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews, NB on January 31, 2005, Mr. James Matthew McGarrigle, husband of the late Sarah M. (Stewart) McGarrigle, formerly of Blacks Harbour, NB. Born in St. George, NB on November 22, 1926, he was a son of the late James M. and Seretha (Leavitt) McGarrigle. A loving father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by one son, George (Debbie) of Pennfield; one daughter, Syritha McGarrigle of Blacks Harbour; two grandchildren, Brent and Alisha McGarrigle; two great-grandchildren, Hillary and Kyle; four brothers, Kenny (Wanita), Gerald McGarrigle, all of Blacks Harbour, Everett (Thelma) of Tracadie, and Wesley (Pam) of St. Stephen; three sisters, Florence Leavitt of Back Bay, Doris Nason of St. George and Emma Maillet of Blacks Harbour; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased besides his wife and parents, by a grandson, Troy McGarrigle; two sisters, Mary Walsh and Linda Matheson; two brothers, Bill and Lorne McGarrigle.
    James was a labourer/machine operator for Connors Bros. Ltd., Can & Cover Division, for over 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a quiet man who enjoyed TV and meeting his friends at the St. George Mall. WRIGHT, HERBERT "EMERSON" - Unexpectedly at his residence in Beaver Harbour, NB on February 8, 2005, Mr. H. Emerson Wright, husband of the late Joan Isabel (Grant) Wright. Born in Beaver Harbour on April 21, 1939, he was a son of the late Harry T. and Helen Belle (Fountain) Wright. A loving father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by three sons, Derrick (Jennifer) Wright of St. George, Peter (Wendy) Wright and Ricky Wright (Velda Leslie), both of Beaver Harbour; one daughter, Sarah (Craig Hamilton) of Beaver Harbour; 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Mallory, Melissa, Benjamin, Katlyn, and Nicholas; one brother, Barton Wright (Joanne Wilson) of Bay Side, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife, he was pre-deceased by two sisters, Eloise Wright and Greta McRae.
    Prior to his retirement, Emerson was employed by Heritage Salmon, and previously by Connors Bros. Ltd. in Beaver Harbour as a Cold Storage Foreman, where he worked for 28 years. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball.

WHALEN, RICHARD WILEY - Richard Whalen, husband of Linda Whalen, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital on Wednesday, March 9th, 2005. Born in Moncton, October 17, 1948, he was the son of Margaret Whalen (Coates) and the late Paul Whalen. He was an inspection manager NB Coastal, Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Richard had a passion for salmon fly fishing on the Miramichi, he enjoyed classic Chevs and was a member of the Mountain View United Church. Richard was a kind man who was always willing to help others.
    He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Linda (McDowell), a daughter Jillian at home, a son Mark (Linda) of Dartmouth, his mother Margaret, brothers Jim (Laura), Danny (Margaret Ann) all of Moncton, a sister Cathy LeBlanc (Gilles) of Oakville, ON., in-laws Keith & Clara McDowell, Wayne & Sally McDowell, Peggy & Bill Justason all of Pennfield, NB as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Paul in 1972.
    At Richard's request, there will be no visitation prior to the funeral service to be held from Mountain View United Church, 85 MacBeath Avenue, Moncton on Saturday, March 12th at 11:00 AM. A reception for Richard's friends and family will follow the service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oncology Center or the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital would be appreciated.

WILCOX, ETHEL JANE - Peacefully, in her 103rd year, at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB, Mrs. Ethel Jane (Leavitt) Wilcox, wife of the late Earle L. Wilcox, entered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on April 29, 2005. Born at Leavitt’s Head, Back Bay, NB on April 25, 1903, the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Harris) Leavitt, she is survived by six children, Ida (Gerald) McCoy of Saint John, Carroll (Neata) Wilcox of Truro, NS, Hazel Tidd of Kamsack, SK, Mary (Bev) Doucette of Quispamsis, Marie Wilcox of Saint John and Alice (Murray) Thorne of Estey’s Bridge, NB; special daughter-in-law, Kay Wilcox of St. George; 24 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister, Bessie Hanley; brothers Ken Leavitt and Octave Leavitt; sisters-in-law, Gladys Spray and Bessie Wickett. Besides her beloved husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Leo; daughter Lelia (in infancy); sister, Martha; brothers, Basil, Otis, and Melvin; and son-in-law, Sherwood Tidd.
    A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was the oldest living member of the Blacks Harbour Wesleyan Church. A long-time resident of Blacks Harbour, she worked for many years at Connors Bros. Ltd.

HANLON, JEAN BARBARA - The death of Mrs. Jean Barbara Hanlon, 58, of Campbell Street, St. George, devoted wife to Dave William Hanlon, occurred on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Chatham, NB on November 19, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Theodore Wilkins and Ruth (Walls) Harrison. Surviving besides her husband, Dave, are her loving children, Tim Hanlon (Loretta) of Pennfield, Dwayne Hanlon (Stephanie) of Rusagonis, NB; sisters, Deborah Mitton (Steven) of Hammond River, Nancy Jones (George) of Red Head, Cheryl Harrison of Saint John; brothers, David Harrison (Sheila) of Quispamsis, Wayne Harrison (Ross), John Harrison (Vanda), Hayward Harrison (Joyce), Barry Harrison (Cathy), all of Saint John; cherished grandchildren, Mitchel Hanlon, Kelsey Hanlon, and Mikayla Hanlon; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

MORDEN, JOHN CRAWFORD - Peacefully while sleeping, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB, Mr. John Crawford Morden, 85, of Pocologan, NB, husband of the late Winnifred Jean (Ellis) Morden. Born in Redvers, Saskatchewan on October 13, 1919, he was the son of John Albert and Mary Ann (Atkins) Morden. A loving father, he is survived by one son, John (Gisele) Morden of Pocologan; two grandchildren, Tracy and Scott Morden of Pocologan; one sister, Mildred Amelia Thorne of Moosomin, Saskatchewan; several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother at infancy, Gerald Arthur Morden.
    John joined the R.C.A.F. in September 1940 and was discharged in the fall of 1945. In August of 1941, he went to the U.K., and after various postings in England, volunteered to go to the Middle East. He joined 37 Squadron (R.A.F.) in January 1942 and operated out of Egypt and the Western Desert. He completed his tour in July 1942 and returned to Canada where he spent the rest of the war. In 1947 he joined the R.A.F. and went back to England. He was on the Berlin Airlift in 1948-49 and did 350 lifts into Berlin. He left the R.A.F. in 1951 after his time was completed and came back to Canada. He the joined Maritime Central Airways. He retired as Vice President-Operations for Nordair (a subsidiary of MCA) in 1981.
