JUSTASON, ALDEN CLEVELAND "Allie" - The death of
(Allie) Alden Cleveland Justason occurred on May 13, 1983 at Fundy Hospital,
Blacks Harbour following a lengthy illness.
In his 77th year, Mr. Justason was well known in the
community, throughout the county and province, where word of his death was heard
with regret and sadness.
A son of the late Robert and Laura (Laskey) Justason, he was
born December 14, 1906 at Blacks Harbour, where he lived until moving here to
his new home on the Lake Utopia Road in 1968.
On April 5, 1929, he was united in marriage with Eleanor
Gaudett, formerly of Weymouth, NS.
He was employed with Connors Bros. Ltd. for many years, first
as a millwright, later as a machinist. After retiring from the company in 1964,
he was self employed as an electrician until 1968 when he retired from this
work.
Mr. Justason was a member of the former Christian Church of
Blacks Harbour and of later years was an adherent of Calvary United Baptist
Church.
He was a member of the Queens Royal Black Preceptory No. 62
of Saint John and at the time of his death was Master of the Loyal Orange Lodge
No. 92, Pennfield.
He held membership in the LOBA Dominion Lodge No. 18 of
Pennfield; was a Past Chancellor of Knights of Pythias of New Brunswick No. 100;
and was a member of the Maple Leaf Temple No. 30 of Milltown. He was also a
member of the International Jubilee Committee of St. Stephen; the Odila Temple
No. 157 DOAK of Saint John; and the Royal True Blue Association Victoria No. 98
of Saint John.
Mr. Justason held honorary membership in the Blacks Harbour
Branch No. 39 of the Royal Canadian Legion; and in the Charlotte-Fundy
Progressive Conservative Association.
In all of these organizations he was very active and held
various executive positions over the years.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor; his son, Cleveland F of
Pennfield Ridge; several cousins, nephews and nieces.
A combined memorial service of the LOL No. 92, the LOBA No.
18 and the Royal Black Preceptory was held at the St. George Funeral Home in St.
George prior to the day of the funeral, conducted by head officers of these
orders.
The funeral was held from the St. George Funeral Home to
Calvary United Baptist Church, Blacks Harbour, which was filled to capacity with
relatives, friends and representatives of the various organizations of which Mr.
Justason was a member.
The service was conducted by the Minister of the church, Rev.
Perley N Tidd.
Favorite hymns, Jesus Savior Pilot Me and Good Night And Good
Morning were sung by the church choir with Mrs. Mabel Conley as organist.
Pallbearers were six nephews, Robert Cook of Woodland, ME,
Ross Hawkins of Beaver Harbour, Malcolm Gaudett and Wayne Patterson of
Pennfield, Patrick Doucett and Gordon Gaudett of Blacks Harbour.
Interment was in the new rural cemetery at Pennfield.
Numerous and beautiful floral tributes were received and many
donations were made to the memorial funds of churches, organizations,
foundations, societies, hospitals and associations given in Allie’s memory.
Among the many attending the funeral were those from
Eastport, Baring and Woodland, ME, Saint John, Fredericton, Sussex, St. Stephen
and from all communities of the area.

McDOWELL, CLARICE HELENA
- At Passamaquoddy Lodge Nursing
Home, St. Andrews, on Friday, October 23, 1987, Clarice Helena (Justason)
McDowell, widow of Norman B. McDowell of Pennfield, Charlotte County, in her
85th year; survived by two sons, Bruce of Saint John, Keith of Pennfield, one
daughter, Clara, Mrs. Wallace Johnson of Holland, Michigan, USA, nine
grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Rested at the St. George Funeral Home, Main Street, St.
George. A committal graveside was held at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery,
Pennfield on Sunday at 2pm. with Rev. Glenn Gray officiating.
LEAVITT, WATSON JAMES – At the Saint John Regional Hospital
on Tuesday, December 29, 1987, Watson James Leavitt, husband of Thelma (Wright)
Leavitt of Blacks Harbour, in his 67th year; survived by his wife, two
daughters: Pauline (Mrs. Vincent Beney) of Sudbury, Ont., Linda (Mrs. Terry
Wright) of Toronto, Ont.; three sisters; two granddaughters, three
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Rested at St. George Funeral Home, Main Street, St. George, where the funeral service was held on
Thursday with Rev. Walter Thompson officiating. Interment in the Pennfield Rural
Cemetery, Pennfield, NB.
McGARRIGLE, MARGARET SARAH
"Maddie" –
Margaret Sarah, 64, passed away on Friday, the 22nd day of January 1988, at her
residence. Survived by her husband, James Matthew McGarrigle of Blacks Harbour,
NB; one son, George McGarrigle of Pennfield; one daughter, Syritha B. McGarrigle
of Beaver Harbour, NB; three grandchildren: Alisha, Brent and Troy; eight
brothers; two sisters; several nieces and nephews.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St.
George, NB. The funeral service was held at the United Pentecostal Church,
Blacks Harbour, NB on Sunday, the 24th day of January 1988 at 2:00 pm with
Pastor King officiating. Interment in the Rural Cemetery, Pennfield, NB.
GAUDETT, ANN MARIE - At the Fundy Hospital, Blacks
Harbour on Wednesday, December 28th, 1988, Ann Marie (Bradford) Gaudett, wife of
Clarence S. Gaudett, of Blacks Harbour in her 55th year. Survived by her
husband, one son, Burrell, of Blacks Harbour; one daughter, Faith Gagne of
Pennfield; two grandsons, Craig and Thomas; her father and mother, Donald and
Cora Bradford, of Pennfield; four brothers, Roy Bradford and Harold Bradford,
both of Pennfield (Utopia); Fred Bradford, of Woodstock and Donald Bradford Jr.,
of Utopia, Charlotte County; six sisters, Donaldine McGarrigle, Irene Gagne,
both of Blacks Harbour; Stella Steeves, of Riverview; Twyla Rhynolds, of Beaver
Harbour; Judy Sommerville, of Cambridge, Ont.; Delores Lockhart of Pennfield;
her maternal grand-mother, Mrs. Carries Spencer of McAdam; one uncle, four
aunts, and several nieces and nephews.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, Main Street, St. George. The funeral
service will be held at the Blacks Harbour United Pentecostal Church on Sunday,
January 1989 with Rev. Ronald King officiating. The body will be placed in the
Pennfield Rural Cemetery Vault, awaiting spring burial in the Pennfield Rural cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society would be appreciated
by the family. Visiting at the funeral home today Friday from 7-9pm and on
Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
