DUBAR, JOHN "DYER"
- Dyer Dunbar, retired railroad man and a resident of Pennfield passed away
suddenly Tuesday afternoon. He had apparently suffered a heart attack as he was
found near his home. He was in the 66th year of his age and leaves besides his
wife, one sister, Mrs. Walter J. McWha, of St. Stephen and three brothers, Melvin at
home, Thomas in Los Angeles and Delbert in Saskatoon.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon under Masonic auspices
with Rev. R.U. McLean of St. Stephen conducting with service.

DUBAR, JOHN "DYER"
- The community of Pennfield was shocked on Tuesday, April 8, when it became
known that J. Dyer Dunbar had suddenly passed away from a heart attack which he
suffered while repairing the driveway, and died instantly.
A man of quiet nature and sterling qualities, he will be
greatly missed in his home and by his many friends.
He was born in Pennfield 68 years ago, a son of the late
James and Rebecca Dunbar, where he spent all of his life retiring from the
railroad about five years ago.
For a number of years he had been an elder of the
Presbyterian church, and a member of the Orange and Masonic lodges, under whose
auspices the funeral was conducted.
He leaves to mourn besides his wife, who was formerly
Catherine Johnston, a niece and nephew, Anna and Kenneth Johnston; three
brothers, Thomas of Los Angeles; Melvin, Pennfield; and Delbert, of Regina; and
one sister, Mrs. W.J. McWha, of St. Stephen.
A short funeral service was held at the home by Rev. B.T.
Keith of St. George, and Rev. Robert U. McLean of St. Stephen, Mr. McLean
conducting the services at the church and grave. Pall-bearers were Samuel McKay,
A. Beecher Hawkins, Eugene Wilson, and Edward Wood.
The funeral was the largest held in Pennfield for many years
with many beautiful floral tributes. Interment was made in the family lot in the
Presbyterian cemetery.

BEACH, MARY AUGUSTA - After
an illness of some fourteen months Mrs. Howard Beach passed quietly away on
April 20 at her home in Honeydale. She was born at Pennfield April 5, 1875,
daughter of William N. and Agnes Carlyle Hawkins, and after graduating from
Provincial Normal School at Fredericton taught in different parts of the county
for thirteen years. She was a member of the Baptist Church and took active
interest in church and Sunday school work, holding important offices in each for
many years. She was also keenly interested in the C.G.I.T. Camp, which she
attended each year as long her health permitted. She was woman of rate qualities
and was loved by many friends for her great kindness of heart and willing hands.
She married Howard Beach of Honeydale September 25, 1905, and
besides her husband leaves two daughters to mourn their loss, Mrs. Louis Orr and
Mrs. Clayton Logan, both of St. Stephen; seven grandchildren, Douglas, Paul,
Karl, Gerald, Marion, Billy and Carol; two half-sisters, Mrs. G.W. Scott, St.
John, and Mrs. Ray Justason, Pennfield, Pennfield; four half-brothers, Rupert,
Ernest, Raymond and Harold of Pennfield; and one full brother, Will, in Machias,
Me. One brother, Horatio, died several years ago.
Rev. G.L. Hovey, pastor of the Baptist Church at Honeydale,
assisted by Rev. William Armstrong of the United Church, conducted the funeral
service at the home. The choir sang "Unto the Hills", and "Sweet
Bye and Bye". Interment was at Pennfield were Rev. H.A. Westrup conducted
the service at the grave. Pall-bearers were her four brothers.

JACKSON, SOPHIE
- St. George, June 12 - On Thursday morning, June 8th, at 10 o'clock, Sophie, wife
of R.J. Jackson, of Pennfield, passed on to the higher life, after an illness of
several months. She was born in Saint John February 27th, 1860, a daughter of the
Capt. Nathaniel and Mary Frizzell.
Mrs. Jackson was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church
and possessed the qualities of a true Christian woman. Besides her husband she
is survived by three sons, Leonard of Ottawa, Warren of Black's Harbour and Vernon
at home, also one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon with prayers at the home,
after which the remains were taken to the Presbyterian Church, and was largely attended
by friends from Saint John and surrounding districts. Service was conducted by Chas. D.
Henderson, student minister. Hymns sung by the choir were "Unto the Hills,"
"Nearer my God to Thee" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
Pall-bearers were Clarence Munro, Samuel McKay, Melvin Dunbar, Ernest
Hawkins, Rupert Hawkins and Beecher Hawkins.

McDOWELL, ROBERT "WALTER"
- The death of Walter McDowell occurred Monday evening, Oct. 9, at his home in Pennfield.
Although he had been in poor health for a number of years, his death came very suddenly and
was a great shock to his family and many friends.
Born at Pennfield 74 years ago, son of the late John and Mary (Dunbar)
McDowell, he is survived by his wife, two sons, Martin and Ernest; one daughter, Mrs. C.M.
Pratt, of Saint John; seven grandsons and two granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
A host of friends will deeply mourn his loss.
Mr. McDowell was employed for several years with the Canadian Pacific Railway,
having been superannuated nine years ago.
He was a member of the St. George Masonic Lodge.
He will be remembered as a man of generous and kindly disposition, ever ready to help any who
needed assistance.
The funeral, which was largely attended, was held at his late home on Wednesday
afternoon, conducted by Rev. William Randall, pastor of the Pennfield Baptist Church. A male quartette sang very beautifully the hymn "Abide With Me". The service at the grave was carried
out by the Masonic Order. The pall-bearers were section men and brother Masons.
There was an abundance of beautiful floral pieces, which bore silent testimony
to the high esteem in which he was held. He was laid to rest in the family lot of the Presbyterian
churchyard at Pennfield.

Mrs. Dyer Dunbar Dead At Moncton
Former Teacher, Native Of Pennfield, Passes After Lengthy Illness
The death of Mrs. Dyer (Catherine) Dunbar which occurred Nov. 9, is being mourned by a wife circle of friends. Born in Pennfield, Charlotte County, the
daughter of the late William and Margaret Johnstone, she had spent the greater part of her life there. After finishing school she entered the Provincial Normal School and in her early life taught in several New Brunswick schools.
In 1918 she was united in marriage to John Dyer Dunbar, also of Pennfield, who predeceased her by five years.
Mrs. Dunbar had always enjoyed excellent health until about eleven years ago, following which she was confined to her bed for a number of years. Her death, which occurred at the home of her niece, Mrs. F.G.
Adshade, 27 Grandview Drive, Moncton, was hastened by an attack of intestinal flu.
A woman of fine Christian character and sterling qualities, she bore her lengthy illness with courage and patience. Mrs. Dunbar was a member of Christ Church, Pennfield; and while residing there took an active
part in the affairs of the parish, as well as in other organizations in the community.
She leaves to mourn one brother, David Johnstone, of Black's Harbor, and one sister, Miss Isabel Johnstone, of St. Stephen. Kenneth Johnston of Calais is a nephew and there are six nieces, Mrs. Ferne Adshade,
Moncton; Mrs. Harry Tyler, Milltown; Miss Dorothy Irvine, Calais; Miss Mildred Johnstone, Portland; and Mrs. W.J. Campbell, Black's Harbor.
On Sunday evening, Nov. 10, a service of prayer was conducted at the home of Mrs. Adshade by Rev. John J. Alexander, rector of Saint George's Church, Moncton. The following morning the body was taken by motor
hearse to Pennfield and laid to rest beside her husband in the Presbyterian burying ground. Services at the church as well as the committal were conducted by Rev. E.J. Macdonald. Hymns sung were "Unto the Hills Around"
and "Abide With Me."
The pall-bearers were Ernest Shaw, Samuel McKay, Melvin Dunbar and Ernest Hawkins.
Many friends and relatives from various points attended the services. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful, bearing silent witness to the love and sympathy of those who knew her.

ANDERSON, JAMES ADAMS "Jimmy"
- Unexpectedly at his residence
on Tuesday, July 24, 1990, James Adams Anderson, son of the late George and
Ethel (Kernighan) Anderson of the Mealey Road, Pennfield, in his 77th year;
survived by one son, James Jr. and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth of Saint John, one
daughter, Ruth Rathwell of Nanaimo, British Columbia, three grandsons, three
granddaughters, one brother, Robert Anderson of Saint John, three sisters,
Mercedes Minnie of Pennfield, Shirley Smith of Saint John and Alice (Mrs. Alonzo
Hall) of St. George and several nieces and nephews.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, Main Street, St.
George. The funeral service will be held at Christ Anglican Church, Pennfield on
Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Cannon David Genge officiating. Interment in the
Presbyterian Cemetery, Pennfield. Visiting at the Funeral Home on Thursday 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday 10 a.m.-12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations to the
charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. A Masonic
service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. by the
St. George Masonic Lodge #12 F. & AM.
ANDERSON, JAMES ADAMS
"Jimmy" - The death of James Adams Anderson of
Pennfield, husband of the late Evelyn (Justason) Anderson, occurred on Tuesday,
24 July, at his residence.
He was born at St. George, the eldest son of the late George
B. and Ethel A. (Kernighan) Anderson. He was a life-time resident of Charlotte
County. He was employed at Connor's Bros., Blacks Harbour for 42 years as a
sawyer and filer, and at retirement, as Maintenance Supervisor.
He was a member of St. George Masonic Lodge #12 F&AM for
47 years; he was also Past Worshipful Master. He was a member of the Luxor
Temple. He was a Permanent Contributing Member to the Shriner's Hospitals for
Cripple Children.
He was an Anglican by faith; in his married life, he was a
member of the Pennfield United Baptist Church participating in the capacity of
Superintendent and Deacon.
He is survived by his son, James Earle and daughter-in-law,
Elizabeth of Saint John, N.B.; his daughter, Ruth Josephine Anderson-Rathwell of
Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, B.C.; six grandchildren - James Bruce (and wife
Ronda-Lee), Calgary, Alta., Robert Anderson (Andee) of Calgary, Alta.,
Christopher Adams of Vancouver, B.C., and Deborah Ruth Rathwell of Oakville,
Ont.; and Misty-Dawn and Crystal Lynn Anderson of Saint John; one brother and
three sisters - Mercedes Mennie, Pennfield, Shirley Smith of Saint John, Robert
E. Anderson of Saint John and Alice Hall of St. George; and three nephews and
five nieces, and many cousins.
Predeceased by brother G. Holmes in 1979.
The St. George Masonic Lodge #12 F&AM held a Masonic
Service at St. George Funeral Home, July 26, 1990, conducted by Worshipful
Master Robert Brent Anderson (nephew) and Chaplain Robert E. Anderson (Brother
Bob).
Funeral service were conducted by Rev. Canon David Genge at
Christ Anglican Church, Pennfield; interment at Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk.
Honorary bearers were Donald E. Justason, J. Bruce Rathwell, R. Anderson (Andee)
Rathwell, William J.A. Mennie, and Robert Brent Anderson. Pallbearers, Bro.
Masons were Charles Davis, Abraham Dugas, Addison Emery, Arnold Hatt Jr., Aubrey
Hatt and Lewis Justason.
Those out-of-town attending were from Vancouver Island, B.C.,
Calgary, Alta., Newcastle, Tracey, Saint John, St. Stephen, Black's Harbour and
surrounding areas in New Brunswick.
A number of floral tributes were received and donations to
Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children Montreal Unit, St. Marks Anglican
Church, St. George, Christ Anglican Church, Pennfield, The Gideon Memorial Bible
Plan, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, New Brunswick Heart and Stroke
Foundation, St. George United Baptist Church and Charlotte County Cancer
Society.

JOHN "MARTIN" - At the Saint John Regional
Hospital on Saturday, March 9, 1991, John Martin McDowell, son of the late
Walter and Sarah (Trecartin) McDowell of Pennfield, in his 91st year; survived
by two sons, Ralph H. McDowell and John M. McDowell, both of Pennfield, six
grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his wife, Bessie (Hinds) McDowell.
Rested at the St. George Funeral Home, Main Street, St.
George. The funeral service was held at the Presbyterian Kirk, Pennfield, on
Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Robert Murray officiating. Interment in the
Presbyterian Kirk Cemetery, Pennfield. A Masonic service was held at the funeral
home on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. by St. George Lodge No. 12 F and AM.

ELDRIDGE, J. CHARLES - Unexpectedly at
his residence, Pennfield Ridge on February 3, 1997, Mr. J. Charles Eldridge.
Survived by his wife Helen (Hawkins) Eldridge; one son, Herbert and wife Sonya
of Thunder Bay, Ont.; three daughters, Sally and husband Jack Brown of Pennfield
Ridge, Dawn Marie and husband Kevin Downs of Saint John and Heather and husband
Dean Grant of Saint John; eight grandchildren; one sister, Enid, Mrs. Leonard
Theriault of Beaver Harbour; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by four brothers, Eugene, Herbert, Adrian and Raymond and three
sisters, Lois, Rowena and Jessie. Mr. Eldridge was born in Beaver Harbour March
14, 1931, son of the late Maurice and Ida (Maxwell) Eldridge. He was a barber by
trade and operated a barber shop in Pennfield Ridge for many years. He attended
the Presbyterian Kirk, Pennfield Ridge.

George, N.B. The funeral will be held at the Presbyterian Kirk, Pennfield, N.B.
on Friday at 2 p.m. Interment at Presbyterian Kirk Cemetery. Visiting hours
Wednesday evening, 7-9 and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Donations to the charity
of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
ELDRIDGE, J. CHARLES - The funeral
service for J. Charles Eldridge of Pennfield was held at the Pennfield
Presbyterian Kirk on Friday, Feb. 7, 1997, with Rev. Canon David Genge
officiating, assisted by Rev. Gordon Thompson. Guest soloist was Mrs. Susan
Foster. Pallbearers were, Dale Wright, Duane Wright, Donald Justason, Maurice
Eldridge, Richard Foster and Jonathan Nagy.
Charles was a past member of the IUOE. For many years he
worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator. He was manager and
distributor of propane gas for the St. George branch of Burma Propane Ltd. for
seven years. For the past ten years he owned and operated his own barber shop in
Pennfield.
Many floral tributes and memorial donations were received.
Interment took place at the Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk Cemetery.

JUSTASON, J. KENNETH - Peacefully after a
brief illness at his residence on February 26, 2002, Mr. J. Kenneth Justason of
Seeley’s Cove, N.B., husband of the late Marion G. (Lambert) Justason.
Born in Pennfield on January 7, 1909 he was a son of the late
Enos and Mary (Saye) Justason. A loving father and grandfather he is survived by
one son, Danny of Seeley’s Cove; one daughter Lois Cook (Phillip) of Back Bay,
N.B.; four grandsons, Mark of Moncton and Kevin, Dale and Wade all of Back Bay;
one brother Louis of AB, several nieces and nephews. Kenneth was predeceased by
six brothers, Frank, Lawrence, Lyle, Carson, Cameron and James and three
sisters, Verna Young, Marion Trainor and Lois Justason. Kenneth loved travelling
and his animals. He also enjoyed gardening. Prior to retirement he worked at the
Department of Transportation for several years with the Bridge crew.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage St., St.
George, N.B. from where visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and
7-9 pm. The service will be held on Thursday at 2 pm from the Presbyterian Kirk
Church in Pennfield with Rev. Keith Osborne officiating. Interment to follow in
the church cemetery. In Kenneth’s memory, remembrances to a charity of the
donors choice would be appreciated by the family.

JACKSON, EMMA - Emma Jackson, 1915-2002.
Dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died at DECH July 22. Born in
Pre-d'en Haut, NB to the late Leah (Melanson) and Frank Richard. Emma spent her
early years in the Moncton area, moving to Pennfield, N.B. in 1942 when she
married Warren Jackson and later to Black's Harbour where they raised their
family. She moved to Fredericton in 1977 and became a guiding light for her
grandchildren during their formative years. Emma devoted her life to her family
and will be sadly missed by her son Floyd (Susan May), daughter Darlene (Laurie)
Tompkins, grandchildren Jill Paterson (Jerry) Nolfi, Scott Paterson (Shelley
Dingwall), and Craig Paterson (Angela Blizzard). She took much pleasure in the
newest members of her family, great grandchildren Christopher, Emily and
Benjamin Nolfi. Survived by four sisters, with whom she shared a close bond,
Dora Cormier, Annie Cormier, Marianne Arsenault and Hermine (Raymond) Belliveau.
Predeceased by her husband Warren, sister Margaret and brothers, Dos and Zoel
Richard. Proudly independent, Emma had a special talent for friendship, making
the world brighter for those who knew and loved her. She took great delight in
her garden and was renowned for her Sunday dinners, a weekly highlight for those
who were fortunate enough to gather around her table. Our world will be smaller
with her passing.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held
from the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 2 p.m. Rev.
Bob Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Pennfield, NB
at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations made to the NB Lung
Association would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements in the care
of McAdam Select Community Funeral Home.

MAXINE "Glennie" - Unexpectedly and peacefully, at the Ridgeview Manor, Pennfield, NB, on June
22, 2003, Glenville (Glennie) Maxine Farquharson, formerly of Carleton Kirk
Manor and of West Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB, on February 15, 1926,
she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Alberta (Clark) Wagg. Glennie is
survived by one sister, Ida Matthews of St. Stephen, NB; two brothers-in-law,
Walter Spear of Blacks Harbour, and Edward Joyce of Saint John, NB; maternal
nieces and nephews: Avard Matthews (Jackie) of St. Stephen, NB, Vernon Spear
(Colleen) of Pennfield, NB, Sharon Hoyt (Dale) of St. George, NB, and Lynda
(Paul Gould) of St. George, NB, and Patricia (John) Brown of Grand Bay; several
paternal nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by one brother, Archie Wagg
and two sisters, Theresa Joyce and Clara Spear.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street,
St. George, NB with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 an 7-9 pm. The service will be
held on Wednesday at 2:30 pm from The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel, with Rev.

PAUL, MADGE ENID- Peacefully, at the Fundy
Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB, on January 29, 2004, Mrs. Madge Enid (Hawkins)
Paul, wife of the late Clifford Allen Paul. Born on October 31, 1912, she was a
daughter of the late Rupert and Ida (Beach) Hawkins. A loving mother,
grandmother and sister, she is survived by one son, George (Gertrude) Paul of
Pennfield, NB; five daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Edward Cremer) of Medford, Mass.,
Ella Lounder of McAdam, Mary (Mrs. Verdie Russell) of Calgary, AB, Ida (Mrs.
Ronald Carter) of Pennfield, NB, and Donna (Mrs. Scott Henderson) of Seeley’s
Cove, NB; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth
(Audrey) Hawkins of Pennfield; two sisters, Marguerite (Mrs. Stanley Spinney) of
St. George, and Lora (Mrs. John Spear) of Pennfield; several nieces, nephews and
cousins. Madge was pre-deceased by one brother, Donald.
Madge graduated from Normal School in Fredericton in 1930.
She taught school in Seeley’s Cove and other community school houses. She had
been employed by Connors Bros. Ltd., Beaver Harbour, NB for nearly 30 years. She
and her sister were the founding members of the Pennfield Brownie Pack. She was
a member of the Presbyterian Kirk in Pennfield and was the church organist for
Pennfield and St. George for a number of years. She was one of the founding
members of the Fundy Tides Seniors. Madge enjoyed writing poetry and quilting.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street,
St. George, NB, with visiting on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will
be held at the Presbyterian Kirk, Pennfield, NB at 3 pm on Sunday, with Rev.
Erik Kraglund officiating. Interment in the Presbyterian Kirk Cemetery in the
spring. In Madge’s memory, donations to the Presbyterian Kirk of Pennfield,
Fundy Nursing Home, or a charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated

HAWKINS, AUDREY GRETA - Following a
Lengthy Illness, the death of Mrs. Audrey Greta Hawkins, of Pennfield, N.B.,
wife of Kenneth Hawkins, occurred on Friday, February 27, 2004 at her residence,
with her family at her side.
Born on May 4, 1922, in St. Stephen, NB, she was a daughter
of the late Edmund and Sarah Jane (Connors) O’Brien. Surviving besides her
husband Kenneth, are two sons, Douglas (Linda Murphy ), of St. Stephen, NB., and
Russell (Donna) of Pennfield, NB., four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
one brother, Frank O’Brien (Frances Lord) of Toronto, ON., many nieces,
nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Wilda and Anna, and
one brother, Ralph.
Audrey loved quilting, volunteering and traveling. She was a
long time member of the Pennfield Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service in Audrey’s honor will be held at
Pennfield Presbyterian Church on Wednesday March 3, 2004 at 2: 00 pm, with Rev.
Erik Kraglund officiating. Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. In lieu

the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

HAWKINS, KENNETH GEORGE -It is with great
sadness that we announce the death of Mr. Kenneth George Hawkins, 84 of
Pennfield, NB, devoted husband of the late Audrey Greta (O’Brien) Hawkins,
occurred at his home on Saturday June 18, 2005, with his family at his side.
Born in Honeydale, NB, on March 14, 1921, he was a son of the
late Rupert George and Ida Blanche (Beach) Hawkins. A devoted husband, loving
father, and cherished grandfather, he leaves to mourn, his two sons, Doug
Hawkins (Linda Murphy) and Russell Hawkins (Donna) all of Pennfield, NB,
sisters, Marguerite Spinney (Stanley) of St. George, NB, and Lora Spear (John)
of Pennfield, NB, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends. Ken was predeceased by a brother Donald Hawkins,
and a sister Madge Paul. Ken was a great nature lover, caring and tending the
berry fields, riding his motorcycle, and touring the country side on many trails
with his snowmobile, and ATV, with his many friends. Ken was a member of Royal
Canadian Legion Branch # 39 Blacks Harbour, NB, and a long time member of
Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk Church, he was in the army for four years, and a
Veteran of WW II where he served overseas with the South Saskatchewan Regiment.
Family and friends are welcome to drop by the family home at
5086 Route 1, Pennfield, NB. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June
21, 2005, from the Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk Church, at 2: 00 pm, with Erik
Kraglund officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pennfield
Presbyterian Kirk Church, or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the
family. Following the interment, the Royal Canadian Legion will have a tribute

SPEAR, LORA ALICE - Peacefully at the Saint John
Regional Hospital on December 27, 2006, Mrs. Lora Alice (Hawkins) Spear, wife of
John Alexander Spear of Pennfield, NB. Born in Blacks Harbour, NB on June 3,
1928, Lora was a daughter of the late Rubert and Ida (Beech) Hawkins. She is
survived by her husband John, two daughters; Carolann Spear (Karl Whelan) of
Pennfield, Eileen (Lindsay) Campbell of St. Andrews, NB, one son; Brian (Rhonda)
Spear of Pennfield, six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, one sister;
Marguerite Spinney of St. George, NB, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Lora was predeceased by two brothers; Kenneth and Donald,
and one sister; Madge Paul.
Lora was employed by various employers as a cook, most
recently at Smith’s Restaurant in Pennfield. For many years she was a Brown
Owl in the Girl Guide Association and was also the founder of Lora’s
Clubhouse. She was an active member with the Presbyterian Kirk Pennfield and
very involved with all the church’s activities. Lora was a friend and helpmate
to everyone she knew or crossed her path.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street,
St. George, NB from where the service will be held from The Gary E. Waycott
Memorial Chapel on Saturday at 3:30 pm with Rev. Lorne MacLeod and Rev. Philip
Lee officiating. Followed by interment at the Presbyterian Kirk Cemetery in
Pennfield. Visiting at the funeral home will be held on Thursday from 7-9 pm and
on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Presbyterian

SPEAR, JOHN ALEXANDER - At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB following a lengthy illness, on October 28, 2009, Mr. John Alexander Spear, husband of the late Lora Alice (Hawkins) Spear of Pennfield NB. Born at Seeley’s Cove NB on November
16, 1919, he was a son of the late Fred and Grace (Grear) Spear. A loving father, grandfather and brother, John is survived by two daughters; Carolann Spear (Karl Whelan) of Pennfield NB and Eileen (Lindsay) Campbell of St.
Andrews NB, one son, Brian (Rhonda) Spear of Pennfield NB, six grandchildren; Mary Anne (Haven) Wilcox of Blacks Harbour NB, Laura (Tony) Reniero of Victoria BC, John Theriault of Blacks Harbour NB, Corey (Melissa) Spear of
Pennfield NB, Daniel (April) Spear of Utopia NB and Greg Spear of Fort St. John BC, 11 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, Lexis, one brother, Walter Spear of Blacks Harbour NB and several nieces, nephews and
cousins. In addition to his wife Lora, he was predeceased by one sister, Mary McCullum.
Prior to his retirement John was owner/operator of Spears Construction, a company he operated for 25 years. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Infantry and seeing action in France, Italy and Belgium. He was
a very proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #39, Blacks Harbour NB, and was responsible for giving the Legion a respectable facelift. He was also an active member of the Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk where he served as
an Elder for many years. John was very loved and respected and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

HAZLETT, MADELINE DORIS - The death of Madeline D. (nee Travis) Hazlett of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Hanwell Special Care Home on Thursday, March 24th, 2011. Born in Milltown, NB she was the daughter of the late Harley and Mildred (Mahar)
Travis and wife of the late Clarence Hazlett.
Madeline was a member of the Celestial Temple #19 Pythian Sisters, the Christ Church Parish Church as well as the ACW at the church.
Madeline is survived by her sisters, Barbara Wadlin of St. George, NB and Zelda McPherson of Lepreau, NB; brother, Robert Travis of Newriver Beach, NB as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Clarence and her brother, Winford Travis.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street on Sunday, March 27th, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Monday, March 28th, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the J. A.
McAdam Memorial Chapel with The Ven. John Sharpe officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Presbyterian Kirk Cemetery, Pennfield Ridge, NB. Memorial tributes in Madeline’s honor may be made to a
charity of the donor’s choice.

McDOWELL, JOHN MARTIN "Jack" - At his residence on July 30, 2011, Mr. John "Jack" Martin
McDowell, husband of Mrs. Barbara A. (Borthwick) McDowell of Pennfield
NB. Born at St. Stephen NB on October 20, 1936, he was a son of the
late John and Bessie (Hinds) McDowell. A loving husband, father and
grandfather, in addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by two
sons; Walter McDowell and Barry McDowell (Debbie Bagley) both of
Pennfield NB, two daughters; Patricia Kimball (Brian) of St. George NB
and Jacqueline (Laurie) Pendleton of Deer Island NB, eight
grandchildren; Nathan, Ivan, Zachary, Josh, Scott, Erin, Olivia and
Rainee, one great grandson, Spencer, one sister in law, Joyce McDowell
of Ottawa ON, special cousin, Joyce McDowell of Saint John NB, special
friends; Lester McKay and Mark Bowmaster and several nieces, nephews
and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Rodney and by one brother,
Ralph.
Prior to his retirement, Jack worked with both CP and CN Rail on the
railroads. After retirement he kept busy tending to his blueberry
fields and Christmas tree business. He was an avid outdoorsman who
enjoyed hunting and fishing. Very mechanically minded, Jack could
often be found tinkering in the shop and many people considered him
their own Mr. Fix It. He will be sadly missed by his family and many
friends.

the service will be held on Wednesday at 2 pm with Rev. Lorne MacLeod
officiating followed by the interment at the church cemetery. Visiting
at the church will take place on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In
