Harbour View Cemetery Restoration Project

HARBOUR VIEW CEMETERY RESTORATION PROJECT
Beaver Harbour, NB

The Beaver Harbour Cemetery (now known as "Harbour View Cemetery") was started many years ago (the oldest grave is from 1872). Perhaps you have parents, grandparents, great grandparents and even great-great grandparents buried here. Or you may know other relatives and friends who have family buried here.

Since it and other local cemeteries were getting filled to capacity, in 1971 a group of local churches purchased some land in Pennfield Ridge which became "Pennfield Rural Cemetery." In 1979, due to Provincial regulations, our cemetery was incorporated as "Harbour View Cemetery Ltd." In 1982 the cemetery doubled in size with the donation of an adjacent parcel of land by Lillian Hawkins. However much work is required to make that land useable and this is NOT part of the restoration project.

Over the years, under the direction of Wayne Patterson, the grounds have been kept in perfect shape...always mowed and trimmed. Still Mother Nature and Father Time have taken their toll on our beloved cemetery. There are now more then a dozen tombstones that have fallen over (some for more than fifteen (15) years now) and many of the graves have sunken. Restoration is required!!

With that in mind, James (Jim) Hawkins of "The Beaver Harbour Community Ventures Ltd." has formed a committee made up of the following members:

HAWKINS, James L "Jim" Beaver Harbour, NB
LARSEN, G Christian Pennfield, NB
BARRY, Brian Beaver Harbour, NB
BARRY, Hilbert "Hib" Beaver Harbour, NB

The goal of the committee is to raise $2,000.- (or more) for restoration of the "Harbour View Cemetery." Once the goal is achieved, sometime in early summer of 2009 the tombstones will be up righted and put on new bases; the sunken graves will be leveled; new grass will be planted; and the fences repaired. This is no small job - a backhoe must be rented. Also patio stones, special stone glue and gravel must be purchased. However, all of the workers will be volunteers.
