HOW TO GET TO CAMPOBELLO

HOW TO GET TO CAMPOBELLO

2 NB Provincial Government-operated ferries will transport you to Campobello. The ferries run EVERY half hour, 16 hours a day, EXCEPT Christmas Day. It's a 20 minute ride.

The first ferry you would have to take is from L'Etete, NB to Butler's Point Deer Island . The Deer Island Princess II carries 24 cars and the John E. Rigby carries 18 cars. The cost is FREE!

Ferry Schedule from L'Etete to Butler's Point

The first ferry leaves Butler's Point on Deer Island at 6:30am and the first ferry from L'Etete (Route 172) at 7:00 am.

Get in line for the ferry immediately upon arrival at the location. The cars are usually pulled over to the right side of the road and stopped. During the summer months you may have to wait through a ferry departure. Transport trailer trucks also use the ferries, so this can make your wait longer. There is a bathroom on the ferries for passenger use. If the weather permits, climb out of your car . The color of the water here in L'Etete Passage is absolutely spectacular.

For 24-hour information about ferry service interruption notices you can call toOW TO GET TOll free at: 1-800-561-4063. Note: this includes detailed winter road reports as well.

The second ferry leaves from Deer Island Point to Welshpool, Campobello.

Ferry runs only in the summer and takes approximatley 20 minutes - there is a FEE!!!

Where to Stay??

Added April 2008

Several people have asked me "Where can I stay on the island?" Below is a listing of establishments both on Campobello and close by in Lubec. . I have NO connection to any of these locations.

Click on this link for additional locations on the island which provide accommodations as well.

Motel

Friar Bay Motel 506-752-2056

Personally, I have stayed at this location on two seperate occassions. It has seperate individual cabins and a second larger building that consists of 2 seperate independant rooms. As a family of 4 this was perfect for us. We had a beautiful view of Friar Bay overlooking Eastport. Full cooking facilities in the room as well as TV, 1 double bed and 2 single beds and air conditioning. (Signed: Heather Waddingham).

Bed and Breakfast on Campobello

Owen House 506-752-2977

Gary Cook's B&B 506-752-2913 (This has a beautiful view of Harbour DeLoutre and wonderful hostesses).

Lubec Maine and Area Bed and Breakfast

Bayview B&B 207-733-8942
* Betsy Ross House B&B 207-733-8942 (Same hostesses as the location above.)
Home Port Inn B&B 207-733-2077
Peacock House B&B 207-733-2403
Whiting Bay B&B 207-733-2463
* The only one of these with water view is Betsy Ross House.

Not being bias by no means but my recommendation for Lubec would be the Peacock House although it does not have an ocean view.

At the present time, the only ID needed for cross border traveling is a certified birth certificate and drivers license with photo ID. There is now a passport card available for Maine residents (in place of regular passports) and can get the paperwork at most post offices ( price is considerably cheaper). For children, a birth certificate is all thats required.
