CAMPOBELLO- Frances VanBeek, daughter of Edward Owen
North and Lalia Mae Greenlaw, widow of Ft./Lt. Philip J.
VanBeek, R.C.A.F., died at age 85 at Portland, Maine, after
suffering from a massive stroke in January. Frances was a 1936
graduate of Gardner High School in Massachusetts and a 1938
graduate of Worcester Business College, and a member of Beta
Epsilon, Mu Chapter. After retiring from AT&T, Frances
returned to Welshpool to renovate the family homestead, which was
inherited in 1949. A member of St. Anne's Anglican Church and an
active member of the Ladies' Altar Guild, she was also interested
in collecting antiques, refinishing furniture, home decor,
knitting, politics, world events and reading murder mysteries.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Susan VanBeek of Delaware
and Carolyn VanBeek-Outwin of Cape Elizabeth, and granddaughter,
Pamela Ruth Outwin. There was a private graveside internment
ceremony in Massachusetts where she was buried next to her
husband. A memorial service will be held on Campobello next
summer. The family asks in lieu of floral tributes that donations
be made to St. Anne's Anglican Church, Welshpool, Campobello
Island.
