SMART-at Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB, September 20, 2004, Mary Caroline (Mollie) Smart of St. Andrews, NB, formerly of Campobello Island. Born July 25, 1919 in Halifax, daughter of the late Colin & Margaret (Walsh) MacDonald.

Survived by 5 sons; William (Cecilia), Fort McMurray, AB, Colin (Glenna), Fredericton, Christopher (Wendy), Patrick (Kathleen), and John (Willa) all of Campobello Island, 6 daughters; Barbara Smart (Neil), Denyse Smart and Caroline Smart (Adam) all of Fredericton, Elizabeth McAleenan, Janet Craig (Stephen) and Valerie Corbett (Greg) all of St. Andrews. Also survived by 25 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and beloved pets; Bailey and Tess.

Predeceased by her husband; Ernest Arthur Smart (1984), daughter; Margaret Eldridge (1996) and brother; William MacDonald (2003). Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, St. Andrews, NB on Thursday September 23, 2004 at 10 AM with Rev. Paul Leblanc officiating.

Interment will take place at St. Timothys Roman Catholic Cemetery, Welsphpool, NB on Thursday September 23, 2004 at 2:30 PM. Visiting hours will be held at the Church of St. Andrew on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Cancer Society or charity of ones choice would be appreciated by the family.Arrangements in care of The S.O. SMART, MOLLIE - The family of Mollie Smart regrets to announce her passing on September 20, 2004 after a period of ill health. Mollie died at the Palliative Care Unit of Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, New Brunswick with family members present. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1919, Mollie was the only daughter of Colin and Margaret MacDonald.

She married Ernest Smart, with whom she parented 12 children. Mollie and Ern moved many times during his army career, including Halifax, Bedford and Springhill, Nova Scotia, Borden, Ontario and Fredericton, New Brunswick. They finally settled on Campobello Island, where Ern was transferred with Canada Customs.

In her later years, Mollie resided in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. She was an active participant in the Catholic community throughout her life as well as the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion; in later years she made many more friends through her involvement in seniors' activities during her residence in St. Andrews. Mollie was predeceased by her husband, Ernest, her daughter, Margaret, and brother, William MacDonald. She is survived by 11 children: Bill, Colin, Mary Elizabeth, Christopher, Barbara, Patrick, Janet, John, Denyse, Valerie and Caroline; 25 grandchildren, and ten great grand children.

Visitation and vigil prayers were held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the Church of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, St. Andrews, N.B. A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, September 23, 2004 followed by internment at St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Welshpool, Campobello Island. Reverend Paul LeBlanc officiated. Remembrances to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
