Bucksport - Walter Wesley Smith, 78, died Jan. 15, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 17, 1925, in Eastport, the son of Oscar and Emily (Phinney) Smith. Walter worked for Champion Paper Co., Bucksport, for 45 years. He enjoyed going fishing with his family and friends and frequent trips to Campobello Island, New Brunswick, also foliage trips in the fall to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Walter was a very devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, and had great pleasure in meeting the late Ted Williams. He and Tillie were great friends of the late Country Western singer, Dick Curless. Walter will be missed by two sons, George L. Shaw and his wife, Natine, of Titusville, Fla., and Greg Shaw of Belfast; two daughters, Gail Simpson and her husband, Bob, of Portland, and Donna Meade and her husband, Michael, of Bucksport; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Geraldine Hopkins, Maxine Atwood, Barbara Calvi, Emily Benson and Brenda Tinker. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Matilda B. (Silva) Smith; his parents, Oscar and Emily Smith; five siblings, Mila Moore, Franklin Smith, Charles Smith, Robert Smith and Ethel Witham; daughter-in-law, Beryl Shaw. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Spring interment will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport. Walter's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all who helped with the care of Walter, especially Diane Johnston and Sue Carey. Donations in Walter's memory may be made to the Waldo County Hospital Hospice Unit, 118 Waldo Ave., Belfast, ME 04915.

SMITH, PATRICIA RUTH - Peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on September 26th, 2006, Mrs. Patricia Ruth (Richardson) Smith, wife of Goldwin Smith of Lord's Cove, Deer Island, NB.

Born on Campobello Island on May 1st, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Harriet (Homan) Richardson. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Patsy is survived by her husband, Goldie; four daughters, Corinne (Daryl) Conley, LuAnn (George) Cline, Sandra (Larry) Bradford and Karen (Brian) Young all of Deer Island; seven grandchildren, Todd, Trisha, Tera, Darren, Tabby Jane, Sheena and Emily; four great-grandchildren, Julia, Erin, Kendra and Christopher; two brothers, Reggie and Dana; three sisters, Gail, Beth and Andrea, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister, Sharon.

Patsy loved sewing, gardening and reading. She especially loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She was a member of the Lord's Cove Church of Christ. Resting at the Lord's Cove Church of Christ, Lord's Cove, NB with visiting on Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 28th, 2006 at 2:00 pm with the
Rev. Conrad Cline officiating. Interment will follow at the Calder's Head Cemetery. In Patsy's memory donations to the IWK Children's Hospital, Halifax, or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. SMITH, Bertha Estella - Roseway Manor, Sandy Point, formerly of Welshtown, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007, in the manor, at the age of 94. Bertha was a daughter of the late George W. and Annie Laurie (Stimpson) Lank of Campobello Island, N.B. She was the last surviving member of the family. Bertha was a member of the old Centreville Church. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Smith. There will be no visitation or flowers by the family's request. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in the old Centreville Church, Centreville, Rev. Robie Atkinson officiating. Interment will be in the old Centreville Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the old Centreville Church.

Funeral services for Mrs Margaret Smith, formerly of Eastport but for the past several years a resident of Campobello were held at the Ridge Baptist Church in Lubec on Monday, April 28th.

Deceased Name: MADELINE SMITH, WAS IN SALES AT 97 WEYMOUTH - Madeline M. (Stanley) Smith, 97, a retired sales representative, died Aug. 9 at the Pond Meadow Nursing Home in Weymouth.

Born in Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada, she was raised in Lubec, Maine. She worked for the Gilchrist's department store in Quincy for 17 years before retiring in 1962. Mrs. Smith had lived in Weymouth since 1925.

She leaves her daughter, Marilyn DiPucchio of Brockton; a grandson, and one great grandchild.
