LUBEC - Dorothy Hartz Sirles, 86, died May 5, 2000, at Marshall Health Care Facility, after a long illness. She was born at Lubec, Dec. 2, 1914, the daughter of Henry Cushing Sirles and Aurelia Jane Sirles, who were originally from Deer Island and Campobello and later longtime residents of Lubec. Dorothy lived the greater part of her life in Lubec. After graduating from Lubec High School, she earned her business degree from Beal Business College in Bangor. Dorothy later received her master's degree from the University of Maine, Orono. She was a dedicated teacher at Lubec High School, where she taught business courses for 39 years. She often supervised the production of the yearbook and coached many individuals in prize speaking for local and statewide competitions. Dorothy was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teachers' sorority, and the Maine Teacher's Association. For many years, Dorothy was an active member of the Lubec Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. Dorothy was predeceased by a sister, Elsie Rae (Sirles) Dodge of Machias; she is survived by a sister, Betty (Sirles) Massey of Sunnyvale, Calif.; her nieces, Caroline Latta of Evanston, Ill. and Jane Pica of Portola Valley, Calif.; nephews, Richard E. Dodge of Hollywoood, Fla., John Massey of Sydney, Australia; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. A memorial service was held in California. Burial of ashes was at Corey Cemetery, Lubec. Letters of condolence were sent to Betty Massey at Sunnyside Gardens, 1025 Carson Drive, Sunnyvale, Calif. 94086. Arrangements were in care of Gardner-Hall Funeral Home, Machias.

LUBEC- Henry C. Sirles, 93, the husband of the late Aurelia (Porter) Sirles died Oct. 4, 1980, at a Machias hospital following a short illness. He was born at Lords Cove Deer Island, N.B., Oct. 28, 1886, the son of Isaac and Georgianna (Parker) Sirles.
He was a member of the Christian Temple Church, worked for the American Can Co. over 40 years, was a 60- year member of the Lubec Masonic Lodge, former member of the Lubec International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John (Betty) Massey of California, Mrs. Eugene (Elsie) Dodge of Machias, Dorothy H. Sirles of Lubec; one sister, Ida M. Sirles of New York; four grandchildren,Dr. John S. Massey of Australia, Jane (Massey) Pica of California, Dr. Richard E. Dodge of Florida, Dr. Caroline (Dodge) Latta of Illinois; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Christian Temple Church, Lubec, with the Rev. Donald Stockford officiating. Burial will be in Corey Cemetery, Lubec.

MRS. AURELIA J. SIRLES LUBEC- Mrs. Aurelia J. Sirles, 80, died Monday at Bangor Hospital following a short illness. She was born at Wilson's Beach, Campobello, N.B. July 3, 1885, the daughter of William Leonard and Eliza Jane (Brown) Porter.
She had lived the greater part of her life at Lubec. She was past noble grand of the Fidelia Rebekah Lodge of Lubec and a member of the Quoddy Light O.E.S. of Lubec. She was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church at Welchpool, Campobello, N.B. She is survived by her husband Henry C. Sirles; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Massey of Geneva, N.Y., Mrs. Elsie R. Dodge of Machias and Miss Dorothy H. Sirles of Lubec; one sister, Mrs. John L. Dunstan of Newton, Mass.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Christian Temple Church at Lubec with the Rev. Donald Stockford and the Rev. Douglas Densmore officiating. Interment will be in the Corey Cemetery at Lubec. Friends may call at the residence on High Street, Lubec, Tuesday afternoon and evening.
