MacCARTHY, Florence Lillian - Campobello, N.B., formerly of Pictou, passed away peacefully January 26, 2005, in Campobello Lodge, Campobello, N.B., in her 91st year. Born July 2, 1914, in Toronto, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Murray) MacNaughton of Trenton and Lyon's Brook, and wife and staunch supporter of her husband, the late Clarence MacCarthy, former mayor of Pictou.

Lillian was a faithful member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Pictou and a member of the Fraser Auxiliary. She was a long-time member of the Eastern Star Lodge, Kinnette Club, the New Caledonian Curling Club, and she was also craft co-ordinator for the Pictou North Colchester Exhibition. Lillian looked forward to spending each summer at the cottage on Caribou Island.

Family was the focus of her life, and she will be sadly missed by her only son, John and his wife Irene, Campobello, N.B.; granddaughters, Michelle, Blackstone, Va., and Kathy, Dublin, Ireland, both of whom she was very proud; sisters-in-law, Chris MacNaughton, Scotch Hill; Elinor (Pat) Murphy, Charlotte "Birdie" Vye, both of Pictou; Marguerite MacCarthy and Eileen MacCarthy, both of Three Brooks; several nieces and nephews, all of whom were so good to her in so many different ways. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence, and brothers, Murray, Harold, and Peter.

Her remains are resting in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, with visiting hours from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday. Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Alan Stewart officiating. Interment to follow in Waterside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, or a charity of your choice.
