VERNON M. LORD MACHIAS - Vernon M. Lord, 80, passed away Feb. 22, 2006, at Down East Community Hospital after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Lubec, the son of the late Vernon S. and Minnie (Matthews) Lord.

Vern served in the U.S. Navy, as quarter master, during World War II, aboard the U.S.S. Yukon and the U.S.S. Yazoo in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was a 1950 graduate of Boston University. He owned and operated the Vernon M. Lord Agency in Machias for more than 45 years. Vern was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Shriners, and the Harwood Masonic Lodge No. 91. Vern loved spending time on the ocean. He also enjoyed reading.

He is survived by his children, Vernon E. Lord and wife, Catherine, of Kennebec, Cynthia A. Greenier and husband, Daniel, of Campobello Island, Diane M. Lord of Saco, Linda L. Lord of Machias, Douglas M. Lord of Eastport, Donald S. Lord of Gardner's Lake and Garry Moores and wife, Linda, of Lubec; grandchildren, Daniel II, Davern, Patricia, Crista, Daine, Tayla, Van, Chase, Maximus, Mary, Peggy, Joe and Jamie; several great-grandchildren; longtime companion, Donna Hanscom; and mother of his children, Patricia Rier. He was predeceased by a grandson, Lucus Matthews Greenier.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 6 Cooper St., Machias. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at the Christian Temple Church, 21 Main St., Lubec, with the Rev. Alan Andraeas, officiating. Burial will follow at the Olsen Cemetery.
