BANGOR - Barbara J. (Stimpson) Laffey, 86, wife of the late James H. Laffey, died June 30, 2000, at a local nursing center. She was born June 19, 1914, in Hampden, the daughter of Thaddeus and Sadie (Lank) Stimpson. A member of St. John's Catholic Parish and St. John's Catholic Women's Council, she had greatly enjoyed travelling with her husband in their motor home and was known as an avid fisherman. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Barbara A. Laffey of Bangor, Richard T. and Susan Laffey of Glenburn; her grandchildren, Joan Laffey of Hampden, Paul Laffey and his wife, Kendra of Brewer; her sisters-in-law, Frances Cassidy of Florida, Marion Laffey of New Jersey and Pearl Laffey of Bangor; a special niece, Patricia Clark of Bangor; a special cousin, Edwin Allingham of Campobello Island, N.B.; several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family wishes to offer their deepest thanks for all of her caregivers during the past six years. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Gerard Gosselin, pastor of St. John's Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. Gifts in her memory may be made to St. John's Rectory Restoration Fund, 207 York St., Bangor 04401; or to a charity of one's choice. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., following the service.
