Hazel Higgins, wife of the late Everett Higgins, died Sept. 29, 1980, at a Machias hospital. She was previously married to Leslie Brown, who predeceased her in 1951. She was born in Wilsons Beach, Campobello, N.B., March 21, 1899. She was the daughter of Willis and Lillian Babcock. She had made her home in Lubec for a number of years. She had been a resident of the Oceanview nursing home for two and one-half years. She was a life member of the Quoddy Light Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and an active member serving as worthy matron during 1960 and 1968; also a member of the Lubec Grange. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Lillian) Beck and Mrs. Wilfred (Glenner) Burr; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Christian Temple Church, Lubec, with the Rev. Donald Stockford officiating.

HIGGINS, OLGA ESTELLA - loving wife of Russell Higgins of East Saint John passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday March 13, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1929 in Campobello Island she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Madeline (Hampton) Thurber.

Olga was a caring and loving person always giving of herself to her family. Besides her loving husband Russell of 51 years, she is survived by her son Kenneth Higgins (Donna) of Quispamsis; daughters Betty Henry (Kevin) and Faye McKendrick (Gary) both of Saint John; grandchildren Sarah and Aaron McKendrick, Jonathan, Jacquelyn and Julia Higgins, Jennifer Higgins, Rebecca and Leah Henry; great grandson Tyler Higgins; sisters Betty Ashby (Bill) of Presque Isle, ME, Ellen Nightingale (Harold) of St. George and Cecile Sprague (Clair) of Saint John; sister-in-law Eleanor Thurber of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother Donald Thurber.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, (646-2424) with visitations on Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday March 16, 2009 at 11a.m. Interment will follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
