REVEREND MINA E. COREY CAMPOBELLO ISLAND and ONEIDA CASTLE, N.Y.

Rev. Mina E. Corey, 79, pastor of the Oneida Baptist Church, died January 20, 2006, in St. Luke's Hospital, New Hartford, N.Y., where she had been a patient. Born on Campobello Island on September 12, 1926, she was the daughter of Ivan G. and Elsie Marie Daggett Corey.

Rev. Corey was educated in New Brunswick schools, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Gordon College in Boston, her Master of Divinity and her Master of Religious Education from Eastern Baptist Seminary in Philadelphia, Pa., and was ordained on May 28, 1962. Rev. Corey was also licensed as a nursing home administrator. She served as a school chaplain in Philadelphia, as a youth minister with Broadway Baptist Church in Patterson, N.J., as pastor of a church in Waverly, Pa., as director of social services, the chaplain and assistant administrator of a nursing home in Williamsport, Pa., as the administrator of Presbyterian Adult Home, Williamsport, and as minister with the Minister at Large Program serving churches in Casterland and Delhi. From November 1, 1997 to May 31, 2001, Rev. Corey served as interim pastor of the Oneida Baptist Church and was installed as pastor on June 1, 2001.

She served as president of the Oneida Association of Christian Churches. Surviving is one sister and her husband, Lalia and Fred Morehouse of Fredericton, N.B.; two brothers and their wives, Charles D. and Lillian Corey and Ivan and Beverly Corey, all of Campobello; a sister-in-law, Elaine Corey of Williamsport, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Rev. Melvin R. Corey, who died August 9, 2001, and a sister, Inez Corey.

A celebration of Mina's life was held at the Oneida Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Osbourne officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Dan Lehman, Rev. Betsye Mowry, Rev. Curt Johnson and Rev. Bruce French. A graveside service was held at Campobello North Road Cemetery with pastor John Tremblett and family and friends attending.

Mina's family is especially grateful to Mrs. Barbara Reese, whose care and kindness helped bridge the miles between us during Mina's illness.

ALFRED J. COREY, 84 HAMMONDS PLAINS, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA - Alfred J. Corey, 84, of Hammonds Plains, died yesterday in Victoria General Hospital, Halifax.

His wife was the late Dorothy (Burpee) Corey. He leaves a son, Jon Corey of Hammonds Plains; a daughter, Sally Haynes of Framingham (Massachusetts); a brother, David Corey; two sisters, Edna Corey and Mildred Shirley, all of Gardner (Massachusetts); and four grandchildren. He was born in Campobello Island, New Brunswick, a son of the Rev. Judson and Eliza Corey, and had lived in Edmundston, New Brunswick, before moving to Nova Scotia.

Mr. Corey was director of technical services at the Fraser Pulp and Paper Co. in Edmundston for 44 years, retiring in 1971. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick, and earned his doctorate in chemistry from McGill University. He had been active with the Canadian Institute for the Blind in Edmundston.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Rockingham United Church, Halifax. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, or the Heart Fund. T. K. Barnard Funeral Home, 1216 Bedford Highway, Bedford, Nova Scotia, is directing arrangements.
