She was born March 13, 1900, at Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of Earl and Willie Crim. She moved with her mother at age 2 to Camp Crook where she grew up and received her education.She married Jim Van Aken in Miles City. They made their home near Beaver Creek and in 1945 they moved to Marmarth where she had been living at the time of her death. Survivors are two sons, Eugene Gunderson of Glendive and James C. Van Aken of Newark, California; one sister, Mary Etta Lestar of Baker and two grandchildren. Her husband, Jim, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Monday, May 23, at 2:00 p.m. from Stevenson Funeral Chapel in Baker. Rev. Leon Freitag officiated. Mrs. Diane Freitag was the organist and sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond The Sunset". Casketbearers. -were Ray Timm, Bob Barnes, Zook Childers, Sam Knobf, Quinton Hanson and Alfred Sparks. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Marmarth. VanKirk, 73, of 827 Howard Ave., died Saturday afternoon at her home. She was born Sept. 11, 1900, in Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Schultz. At the age of 12, she moved to Newell, S.D., with her parents. On June 29, 1922, she was married to Charles H. VanKirk in Deadwood, S.D. They lived in Butte County, SD, and came to the Billings area in 1940, and moved into Billings in 1944. Her husband died in 1968. Mrs. VanKirk was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include four daughters. Mrs. Edward Kimmer of 814 Howard Ave., Mrs. Hugh Lowe of Denver, Mrs. C. J. Vaughn, who reside near Knobs, met with a serious accident Wednesday afternoon white riding home from school. Those who witnessed the accident say the boy drove the horse over a wire gate that was lying on the ground and the animal became entangled in the wire and was thrown to the ground with the boy underneath. When help reached the lad he was unconscious, being badly bruised from head to foot, his chest crushed and ribs broken. He was taken to the Elizabeth hospital and it was found his internal injuries would prove fatal. The boy was still alive Thursday morning but the doctors in charge stated that he would not live through the day. The accident is a most regrettable one and the family is broken hearted over the affair. The lad was a bright youngster and a great favorite with his school mates and will be greatly missed at the school house as well as at his home. Venell John R. 04 Ag 1979 Age 77 Venell John R. He was employed by the Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. and retired in 1965 after being employed for 29 years. Survivors include two sons, John Venell, Jr. of Worland; Paul Venell of Tempe, Ariz.; and one daughter, Jeanette Calvick of Kalispell; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sheryl was born April 18, in 1957, to Jerrall C. and Betty Nelson at Mahall, N.D. She attended Hettinger public schools 12 years and graduated in 1975. She worked as a secretary for Adams County Record. Sheryl married Timothy Verhulst June 26, 1976, and lived in Hettinger until her death. She belonged to the Hettinger United Methodist Church. Sheryl is survived by her husband, her parents, one sister - Mrs. Mark (Debra) Chalcraft, of Hettinger; one brother - Douglas, of the family home. Funeral services were held May 29 at 10 a.m. at theUnited Methodist Church in Hettinger with the Rev. Kenneth Farr and Rev. DeVerne Schwerin officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Markegard provided the music with Miss Betty Suihovec accompanying them. Interment was in the Hettinger Community Cemetery. (Bony) 08 Ag 1988 Age 59 Vest Ashley 07 Jy 1972 Age 40 Formerly of Glendive Vest Ashley AGE: 40 DEATH: 07-07-1972 FILE #: 44 PAGE #: 7 Surnames: Corbitt, Plummer, Klauzer Ashley and Eugene Vest of Helena, Montana passed away in a two car accident, along with two other persons, four miles west of Winston, Montana. Ashley Vest was born Nov. 22, 1932 at Baker, Montana, the daughter of Mr.and Mrs. J. R, Corbitt. She grew up at Baker and received her schooling here. Ashley was married to Eugene Vest on April 23, 1956 and they lived in Glendive until moving to Helena in 1969. At the time of her death, she was employed as a cosmetician at the Super Save Drug in Helena. Eugene Vest was born August 21, 1927 at Wayne Co. Illinois and came to Baker in 1954 where he was employed. He served in the Armed Forces from 1945 until 1947 as a Sergeant. At the time of his death, he was employed by the State Highway Department. Both were members of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Helena. Ashley is survived by her parents: Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Corbitt of Baker, a sister, Mrs. Myra Plummer of Mandan, N.D.; and her grandfather, Mr. L. M. Corbitt of Baker. Eugene is survived by his mother, Mrs.Harvey Vest of Illinois and several brothers and sisters of Illinois. Surviving the parents are: two daughters, Marilyn D. Klauzer of Grand Junction, Colo. and Martha, 14, of the family home and one son Timothy R. 7, of the family home. Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Vest were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, from the Baker Community Church. Rev. Robert Hempel officiated and burials were in the Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker. Vincelette A.G. 28 No 1951 Age 77 Formerly of Ollie Vincelette C.G 12 Oc 1918 Age 67 Vincelette, Alphosine Paper Date: 10-17-1918 Page: 1918-6 Mrs. C. G. Vincelette, a resident of this part of the county, for the past 15 years, died Saturday of paralysis at her home north of the city. The passing of Mrs. Vlncelette not only removes one of the early settlers of this community but also one who commanded the respect of everyone. Her acquaintance was large and to know her was to love her for she was kind in every sense of the word and never spoke disrespectful of anyone. The past two years Mrs. Vincelette had been practically an invalid having suffered paralytic strokes three different times, the last one coming Saturday and resulted in the venerable lady’s death. The funeral was held Tuesday from St. John’s Catholic church in this city where High Mass was celebrated. Rev Father Moscopp conducted the service and delivered an excellent sermon. After the services the remains were placed in the family lot at the Bonnevale cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs; R. Smith, Ed. Lawler, J. D. Vincelette Douglas 15 Fe 1976 Age 71 Formerly of Baker Vincelette Douglas AGE: 71 DEATH: 02-14-1976 FILE #: 219 PAGE #: 42 Surnames: Morris, Weaver, Traweek, Boyce, Larson, Nelles The funeral for Douglas G. Vincelette, 71, a former rancher of the Baker area, was held Feb. 19, at St. Patrick's Church in Billings with Rev. Monsignor Andrew Zarek officiating. Douglas G. Vincelette was born Sept. 18, 1904 in Baker, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Azarias G. Vincelettc. He attended schools in Baker and rural area. He married Sylvia Morris, June 29, 1927 in Miles City. He ranched in the Baker area until 1935; was in the motel business at Silver Gate; and resided in Billings since 1942. He worked at the Continental Oil Refinery from 1949 until he retired in 1970. After retirement, he spent the winters in Mesa, Ariz., where he died Feb. 14, 1976 of a heart attack. Survivors include the widow; two sons, Muril D. Vincelette of Denver and Darold R. Vincelette of Billings; a daughter, Mrs. Myron B. (Joan) Weaver of Shingle Spring, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Paul, Roy, and Eugene, all of Billings; four sisters, Mrs. Tom (Gladys) Traweek of Baker, Mrs. Adrian C. (Jessie) Boyce, Billings, Mrs. Elmer (Garnet) Larson of Silver Gate, and Mrs. Ralph (Flora) Nelles of Billings. Casket bearers, were F.H. The little one was only five weeks old and its tender age could not combat the disease. The funeral was held Monday at 10:30 A. M. from the Catholic Church, Rev. Father Rocque officiating. Vincelette, 63, of Billings died Sunday night in St. Vincent's Hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born Dec. 31 1912, in Baker, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Vincelette. He grew up and attended schools in Baker. In 1929 he came to Billings where he graduated from Billings Business College. He married Frances Pierson in 1938 and worked for the Continental Oil Co. near Winnett. During WWII he worked in defense at the Moat Mines near Nye and Bremerton Shipyards in Washington. In 1943 he returned to work for Continental Oil, working in various oil fields. In 1949, he returned to Billings and was employed at Continental Refinery. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1957. He married Mary Eileen Scovel in 1960. He retired as an engineer's accountant for Continental Refinery in 1974. Survivors include the widow two sons, Richard R. of Denver and James F. of Dallas; a daughter Mrs. Renee C. Sheehan of Billings; two brothers Paul H., and Gene of Billings, four sisters, Mrs. Tom Traweek of Baker; Mrs. A. C. Services were held at the Zion Lutheran, Church Wednesday, March 16, in Brighton, Colorado. Pastor Raymond Buck and Chaplin Glen Martin officiated at the ceremony. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Brighton. All memorials will be sent to Rocky Mountain Kidney Foundation or Zion Lutherar Church.
