Alfred Garner Latham
Alfred Garner Latham was born Mar. 21, 1846 in Choctaw Co., Miss. He died Jan. 8, 1921 in Webster Co., Miss. Alf married Mary Aviann (Ava Ann) Strickland abt. 1863 in Choctaw Co., Miss.! Ava Ann was born May 14, 1841, & died July 8, 1915 in Webster Co., Miss.! Alf & Ava Ann were buried at Sapa Baptist Church Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss.! They had 10 children, who all married, and lived in Webster Co., Miss. One daughter Laura Lee Latham married Wm. Thomas Vance, and they later settled in Indianola, Miss.! Mary Aviann was the daughter of John S. & Lydia Rebecca �Ayers� Strickland! Her father fought in the Civil War, and was buried at Old Greensboro Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss.! Alfred Garner Latham was the son of James Lewis & Nancy Jane �Eustace� Latham.
They were supposedly buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss. But have no gravestone�s on their grave�s! I have placed a marker there in memory of mine Great, Great Grandfather! He also was a Civil War Veteran! Alfred Garner also enlisted during the Civil War, and was a Private, in Co. K 1�st Miss. Infantry. Alfred also draw�ed a pension from the war! His and Aviann�s children were according to birth were Delia Dee Latham born abt. 1864, and died 1933 in Webster Co., Miss. Delia married John A. Shaffer Feb. 12, 1889, they had 9 children. John A. & Delia was buried at New Long Branch Methodist Church Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss.! Mary Elizabeth Latham was born Sept. 25, 1866, and died Feb. 16, 1953 in Webster Co., Miss. She married Thomas Gilbert (Gill) Dixon, they were buried at New Long Branch Methodist Church Cemetery! Nancy Jane Latham was born abt. 1868, no other info. about Nancy! John Louis Latham was born Feb. 11, 1870, died Mar. 23, 1953 in Webster Co., Miss. He married Laura Adams, and Dora Jester. John Louis & Dora were buried at Sapa Baptist Church Cemetery, Sapa, Webster Co., Miss. Thomas Everette Latham was born May 30, 1872, died Oct. 8, 1944.
Tom married Francis Verna Holland, and they were buried at Mt. Moriah Methodist Church. William H. (Will) Latham was born abt. 1873 � 1877, he married Mary Westbrook, they had 4 children. Will was buried at Sapa Baptist Church Cem.! Lora Lee Latham was born abt. 1878, and married William Thomas Vance, they later settled in Indianola, Miss.!Sarah Belle Latham was born abt. 1880, died in 1948 in Oktibbeha Co., Miss. She married Thomas Jefferson Allen Nov. 6, 1897. They were buried at Clear Springs Cemetery, in Oktibbeha Co., Miss.! Louisa Loutee Latham born 1882, she married Michael (Mike) Hickey Oct. 5, 1896. They had 3 known daughter�s. Mike Hickey was the mayor of Mathiston, Miss. In 1897. James Edward Latham was born Apr. 3, 1884 in Webster Co., Miss., died Jan. 15, 1971 at West Point, Miss. He married Maggie DeLoria Shaffer Dec. 22, 1904 in Webster Co., Miss. They were buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, near Clarkson, Webster Co., Miss.!
Maggie DeLoria was born Nov. 1, 1884, and died Jan. 19, 1965. She was the daughter of William Albert & Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) �Williams� Shaffer! Wm. Albert & Bettie were also buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, along with Wm. Albert�s father, and Grandfather! Edd and Maggie were my grandparent�s, and they had 9 children, their third oldest child & son was my father; William Garner (Dub) Latham Sr. born Sept. 18, 1912, and died May 25, 1969 in Gainesville, Florida. He was buried at Spring Valley Cemetery, Mathiston, Webster Co., Miss. Anybody working on this line please contact me at [email protected] I would be more than happy to share my info. with them!
