 DAVID MCMAHON

Both David and Mary are buried at Providence Cemetery; the two large red stones in photo below mark their graves.

David McMahon [my ggg grandfather] was born in SC around 1816, the census show that both of his parents were also born in SC.  He moved to Alabama and there he married Mary Lile in Perry County on 9/19/1837.  Mary was born around 1818 in TN.  David and Mary moved to Oktibbeha County (in what was to become Webster County) between 1840 and 1843.  Mary’s mother Ellender Lile (born around 1792, TN) apparently lived with them from the start of their marriage.  They had 6 children:  Martha (11 yrs old in 1850 – born in AL), William (10 yrs old in 1850 – born in AL), Adlize (7 yrs old in 1850 – born in MS), James (5 yrs old in 1850 – born in MS), Viola (3 yrs old in 1850 – born in MS) and Margaret Francis (1 yrs old in 1850 – born in MS).  Mary died between 1850 and 1860.  The 1850 census shows her living (age 34) but she was not in the 1860 census.

David never remarried. In the 1880 census David McMahon was living in Sumner County with his daughter Francis (Margaret Francis), age 30 and her husband Newton McGuire (age 22).  Newton and Francis had [at the time] two daughters, Mary E. (2 yrs old) and Leona (10 ½ yrs old).  At some point Newton moved to TX and married again.  I assume Francis had died.
