Mr. Howard Coleman was from the Montpelier area. He later became the superintendent of the Clay County schools in West Point Mississippi.  While at Mantee, He taught the eighth grade arithmetic class, (the Stone Mills Arithmetic.) This arithmetic had very difficult reading problems to solve.  Mr. Coleman decided in order to stimulate competition among the class he would have the class choose sides and compete for several weeks. Who ever could explain to him how to work certain math problems the best way would be the winner.
