Sarah Cooper Turnage Dellapenna, 79, of Mize died March 23, 2005, at Hospice in Hands in Mize.

Mrs. Turnage was born March 15, 1926, in Eupora. She was retired from the Mississippi State Hospital and a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church in Jackson.

Services include a daughter, Linda Downing; three sons, Ernest Turnage, Larry Turnage and Dale Turnage, all of Mize; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lizzie Staggs Duvall, 92, of Eupora died March 27, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare in Eupora.

Mrs. Duvall, a homemaker, was born Dec. 10, 1912, in Choctaw County. She was a member of Eupora First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Blakely of Duck Hill; two sons, Alvin "Buster" Duvall of Eupora and Elvin "Butch" Duvall of Carrollton; a sister, Martha Jean Staggs of Eupora; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Jane Murphy Reves, 86, of Eupora died March 24, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare.

Mrs. Reves, a homemaker, was born June 22, 1918, in the Bywy community. She was a member of Bywy Presbyterian Church.

Jane loved to garden and work in her flowers. She was happiest when her foot was on a shovel and her hands were covered with God's good earth.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Roy K. " Buster" Reves; and a daughter, Priscilla Reves, both of Eupora.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her eight brothers and sisters.

Edwin Howard Sanders Jr., 89, of Jackson died April 1, 2005, in Eupora.

Mr. Sanders, a timber buyer, was a member of Maben Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Betty Pinkerton of Maben and Mary Medor of Laurel.

Richard Samuel Hopkins, 68, died March 17, 2005, at his home in Maben.

Mr. Hopkins, a retired engineer with General Motors, was born in Lansing, Mich. He was a Baptist, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the VFW.

Bettye Hand Stewart, 65, of Eupora died March 23, 2005, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Mrs. Stewart, a homemaker and piano teacher, was born Oct. 22, 1939, in Jackson. She graduated from Murrah High School and from Mississippi College in 1961.

She was the pianist for Eupora First Baptist Church for more than 40 years, taught Sunday School and Bible study classes, and was an integral part of the church. She also taught private piano lessons for many years.

Bettye's ministry through her music touched the lives of so many people in this area in so many ways.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. William S. "Bill" Stewart Sr., pastor of Eupora First Baptist Church; two daughters, Leah Stewart Bland and her husband, Hugh, and Lauren Claire Stewart; a son, William S. "Bill" Stewart Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, all of Eupora; a sister, Joy Hand Whitten of Greenwood; a brother, Shelton Hand Jr. of Clinton; and three grandchildren, Rett, Stewart and Claire Bland.

Elma Orene Crowley, 84, of Ackerman died March 18, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Mrs. Crowley, a homemaker, was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Oktibbeha County. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Wright, a retired carpenter, was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Webster County. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Louise.

Mr. Wright began the Wright Reunion, of which he was president for 35 years.

Mr. Rodgers was a farmer.

Dana Lyn Crunk, 26, died Sept. 23, 2005, at her residence in Eupora.

Miss Crunk was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Dec. 23, 1978.

Survivors include her parents, Donna and Larry Orman; her maternal grandparents, Laverne and Richard Castle; and her paternal grandfather, Clyde Orman, all of Eupora.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Irene Orman.

Ruby Irene Scarbrough, 102, died Sept. 22, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora Long Term Care.

Miss Scarbrough was born Dec. 24, 1902, in Webster County, one of 13 children born to Robert Green and Martha Eula Bingham Scarbrough. Though se was the fourth-oldest of the 13, she was the lone survivor at the time of her death. One sister and one brother were born in the late 1800s.

Miss Ruby attended Wood College in Mathiston and late received her bachelor of science degree from then-Mississippi State College. She lived in and taught school in Cumberland until her retirement in the 1960s. After retirement, she had a home built in Mathiston, where she lived until moving into NMMC Long Term Care in 1999. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Mathiston, which is located directly across from her home where she regularly walked to church until 1999.

Miss Scarbrough is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Mildred Stewart Allday, 85, of Eupora died Sept. 17, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare-Eupora.

Cedell Gibson, 81, died Sept. 16, 2005, at his residence west of Shannon after a bout with cancer.

Mr. Gibson was born in Webster County on July 4, 1924, to the late Lacy and Grace Boatman Gibson. He grew up in the Stewart area but lived most of his adult life in Connecticut and New Jersey.

He was retired from Proctor and Gamble and the Alcoa Aluminum Co. in Bridgeport, Conn. After retirement, he and his late wife made their home in Melbourne, Fla. He moved near his nieces in the Shannon area in 1996.

Mr. Gibson was a member of Reeds Chapel Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran with service during the World War II era. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and going to tag sales.

Survivors include his sister, Pauline Clark of Cincinnati; two brothers, John B. Cox (Virginia) of Columbus and Tommy Cox (Penny) of Stewart; his caregiver nieces, Mariam Tucker (J.D.) and Patricia Gibson of Shannon, and Mary Jo Welch (Marvin) of Covington, Ky.; and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Helen Jeck Gibson, on Oct. 1, 1994, and two brothers, Emery Lacy Gibson and L.C. Gibson.

John M. "Johnny" Elkins, 77, of Eupora died Sept. 9, 2005, at his son's residence in Forest.

Mr. Elkins was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Walthall. Johnny began his business and public service career as a bookkeeper for Gammill Chevrolet in Eupora; then serving two terms as Webster County chancery clerk; a longtime alderman for the city of Eupora, substituting as mayor on several occasions; and owner of the Four Seasons department store.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Eupora and a longtime Sunday School teacher, a fan of all sports, but an especially passionate supporter of Mississippi State.

He loved the town of Eupora, promoting it all his life, but most of all loved his family.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Alice Elkins of Ridgeland and Don and Laurie Elkins of Forest; a stepdaughter, Lisa McCain of Eupora; a sister, Sherry Pittman Moreland of Starkville; seven brothers, James Harold Elkins, Jerry Elkins, Buddy Pittman and Robert Pittman, all of Eupora, Howard Hugh Elkins of Haleyville, Ala., M.H. Pittman of Starkville and Duwayne Pittman of Crossett, Ark.; four grandchildren, Amber Elkins, Kelli Elkins, Claire Felder and John Parker Elkins; and longtime friend and companion Martha Rogers of Eupora.

Mary Sudie Shuffield Collins Gammill, 95, of Maben died Sept. 3, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Born in Maben, she graduated from Maben High School, attended the Mississippi University for Women and graduated from Blue Mountain College.

Except for two years in Longview, Texas, during the Depression, she was a lifelong resident of Maben. From an early age, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Maben. In 1959, she began the study of art. In 1964, she began teaching art, which she continued until 2001.

She was a founding member of the Maben Garden Club. She was active in civic affairs in Maben and Oktibbeha County her entire adult life. She was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her son, Robert W. Collins of Maben; her sister, Etta Mae Few of Starkville; three grandchildren, Laurie C. Barton of Raleigh N.C., C. Hilliard Collins of Portland, Ore., and D. Glen Collins of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Hilliard Collins and Arthur Bell Gammill.

Mrs. Love was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Maben. She was a retired homemaker and a member of the Broadway Baptist Church in Olive Branch.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Bialk of Memphis; two sons, Joe Love and Michael Love of Memphis; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kellum, a homemaker, was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Carroll County. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.

Bernice Burton O'Brian, 85, of Eupora died May 3, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Mrs. O'Brian was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Webster County. She was a retired office manager at Gifford Medical Clinic and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Reid Golding of Eupora; two sisters, Christine Burton Towery and Nellie Mai Burton Baswell of West Point; four nieces and one nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ogle O'Brian.

Louis Curtis Power, 82, of Weir died May 2, 2005, at his residence.

Mr. Power was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Choctaw County. He was owner and operator of Power Service Station for 37-1/2 years. He had been a deacon in Weir and New Zion Baptist churches for 49 years, a member of Campers on Mission and of the Winnebago Travel Club since 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie Sue Power of Weir; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Sandra Power of Bay St. Louis; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Rice of Pearl; a sister, Aileen Braswell of Millington, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Betsey Rice, Stephanie P. Ruoss and Doug Power; and four great-grandchildren.

Jimmie Lorice "Tat" Clark, 78, of Jackson, died April 12, 2005.

Mrs. Clark, a retired Jackson Public Schools cafeteria manager, was born July 29, 1926, in Webster County. She was raised at the Methodist Children's Home.

She was a longtime resident of south Jackson, where she was a member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church. She worked many years for School Pictures, Oak Forest Baptist Church and retired from Oak Forest Elementary School after 22 years of service.

She was a wonderful and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Her life was filled with love for her Lord, friends, family and great-granddaughters, and filled with the excitement and anticipation of the upcoming birth of her twin great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Clark Bue of Jackson; grandson Samuel Bue and his wife, Jennifer, of Madison; and granddaughter Kelly Shannon and her husband, Brian, of Clinton. She is also survived by great-granddaughters Kaylyn and Katie and her grandpups.

Oris Gary, 83, of Kosciusko died April 8, 2005, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko.

Mr. Gary was born July 28, 1921, in the Embry community of Webster County to William Oscar and Jessie Swindol Gary.

Mr. Gary was retired from the Department of Transportation-Highway Department and was a World War II veteran serving in the Army. He was a member of Briarwood Drive Baptist Church in Jackson and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Gary; a stepson, Billy Tolleson and his wife, Johnnie, all of Kosciusko; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Maben native, she was a retired teacher with the Tunica County Schools and a Baptist.

Dale Roberts, 29, of West Point died Dec. 27, 2005, of injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Mr. Roberts, a carpenter with Roberts and Son Construction, was born Nov. 23, 1976. He was a member of Church of Christ Restored in Mhoon Valley.

Mettye Carroll Foard Edmonson, 100, of Lake Park, Ga., died Oct. 25, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.

Mrs. Edmonson was born July 22, 1904, in Embry. She was a retired schoolteacher and a member of Francis Lake Baptist Church in Lake Park.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and John Fondren of Lake Park; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Lloyd Foard and Daniel O. Edmonson.

Clara Lillian Uhl, 95, of Eupora passed away at Beverly Healthcare in Eupora on Jan. 3, 2005.

She was born in Edwardsville, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Cora Uhl. During World War II, she volunteered for service in the U.S. Marine Womens Corps and was stationed in Camp Pendleton, Calif., and other bases in the continental United States.

She was the fourth of five girls in the Charles Uhl family and is survived by one sister, Dorothea Uhl of Mission, Texas, and a niece, Winifred Eastham Wellbaum of Columbus, Ohio.

Graveside services were Jan. 6 at Springhill United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Creel, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Eupora, conducting the services. Wise Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Miss Uhl was an accomplished accountant and a very successful financial manager. During her earning years, she made many wise financial investments while she worked in St. Louis, after her services in the Marines.

While working in St. Louis she was run over by an automobile and knocked under another vehicle that drug her for a considerable distance, breaking most of her bones and almost killing her in 1959. She remained in St. Louis Hospital for many months, but eventually recovered to some extent.

After months of convalescence, she came to live in Webster County with her sister, Cecelia Robertson (Mrs. Cornell), but her physical condition became so bad it required almost constant nursing and she entered Beverly Healthcare nursing home in 1985, remaining there until her death.

As a testimony to her excellent financial management, she paid for more than 19 years of nursing home service from her own private funds. She was a Protestant and a regular church attendant as long as her health permitted and was an accomplished violinist and travel enthusiast.

Jake E. "Jakie" Williams, 50, of Eupora died Jan. 1, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson.

Mr. Williams, a truck driver, was born Oct. 4, 1954, in Chickasaw County. He was a member of Montevista Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Louise Williams of Eupora; a daughter, Vanessa Williams of Hattiesburg; and two brothers, Robert Howard of Seattle and Gene Myers of Portland, Texas.

Clara Lou Foster Kizer, 98, died Jan. 25, 2005, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point.

Mrs. Kizer was born Clara Lou Davis on Jan. 6, 1907, in Louin. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi and Blue Mountain College. She spent most of her adult life in Maben and was a member of First Baptist Church of Maben, where she served faithfully for many years. Mrs. Kizer was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, James Everett Foster of Springfield, Md., and Richard Hobson Foster of New York City; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who are all Mississippi residents.

Her first husband, Everett H. Foster, and her second husband, Earl C. Kizer, both preceded her in death.

Graveside services were Jan. 27 at Double Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Randle Poss officiating.

Robert "Bob" Pugh Sr., 71, of Eupora died Jan. 25, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mr. Pugh, a retired food broker, was born March 11, 1933, in Texas. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Vickers Pugh of Eupora; a daughter, Sharon McGinnis of Columbia, S.C.; two sons, Bob Pugh Jr. of Columbia and Allen Pugh of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Silva of Victoria, Texas, and Ruth Vancil of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Sam Pugh and Dan Pugh of Dallas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 28 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Double Springs Cemetery.

Vernon Lee White, 84, of Eupora died Jan. 24, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Mr. White, a retired farmer, was born May 29, 1920, in Waterloo, Ala. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Eupora.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Mae White of Eupora; two daughters, Ellen Mae Powell of Loganville, Ga., and Barbara Ann Jackson and husband, James, of Terryville, Conn.; five sons, Vernon Lee White Jr. of Williford, Ark., Robert White of Senatobia, Billy Earl White of Grady, Gary White of Long Beach and John White of Eupora; four sisters, Inez Chappel of Tyronza, Ark., Martha Greer of Marion, Ark., Pat White of Forsythe, Ga., and Faye Hooker of Turrell, Ark.; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.L. White; and four brothers, G.R., Edwin, Earl and Gene White.

Services were Jan. 27 at Eupora First Baptist Church with burial in West Shady Grove Cemetery. The Revs. William Stewart and J.G. "Buster" Thomas officiated.

Mary Nell Allday Allen, 61 of Eupora died Jan. 14, 2005, North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora

Mrs. Allen, a retired office manager, was born July 1, 1943, in Webster County. She worked as office manager at the Wells-Lamont plant in Eupora for 20 years until its closing in 2001.

Survivors include her husband, Sidney Clayton Allen of Eupora; her mother, Mildred Stewart Allday of Eupora; her mother-in-law, Blanche Doler Allen of Calhoun City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Howard Rumore of Bellefontaine and Beth Melton and Jim Drinkwater of Alba, Texas; two sons, Sid Allen and wife, Melinda, of Bellefontaine and Steven L. Melton of Terry; a sister and her husband, Elizabeth Allday and the Rev. William S. Weddle; six grandchildren, Kayla Allen, Anna Allen, Sydney Allen, Mary Elizabeth Rumore, Audrey Melton and Kaitlyn Drinkwater; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dearly loved friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Malcolm L. "Pete" Allday; and her father-in-law, Walter Stamps Allen.

Frances Geraldine "Gerry" Gordon High, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 16, 2005, at her daughter's home in Madison with her family by her side.

Mrs. High was born March 21, 1923, in Brooker, Fla., and as a child moved to Largo, where she grew up.

Survivors include her husband, Wilburn Neal High of Vardaman; three sons, Rodney Gordon Crittenden of Merritt Island, Fla., Bruce Crittenden and wife, Reta, of Walla Walla, Wash., and Bobby High and wife, Susan, of Vardaman, and their children, Randy and Casey; two daughters, Fawn Smith and husband, Joe, of Madison, and their daughters, Hope Smith of Jackson, and Tabatha Alexander and Tamara Smith of Carthage; four great-grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Additional survivors are her sisters, Catherine Bryant of El Paso, Texas, and Vivian "Sue" Gleason of Largo, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Maude Gordon of Largo; two brothers, Marlin Gordon of Largo and Knighton Gordon of Atlanta; and a sister, Gladys Roche of Tallahassee, Fla.

Lottie Latham Kilgore, 80, retired administrative assistant, died Jan. 8, 2005, at Winston County Medical Center in Louisville.

Mrs. Kilgore began her career with Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Jackson. She returned to Eupora to accept secretarial work for the Honorable James E. Eudy, attorney at law, and also state senator. While the Senate was in session she worked in the secretarial pool. Mrs. Kilgore worked 28 years in Eupora for the USDA Farmers Home Administration, an agency serving homeowners, farmers and community programs. While there she earned awards for outstanding work performances. She was a committee member of FmHA's State Wellness and Fitness Program, and as a group they earned the administrator's Distinguished Service Award. She served two terms as president of FmHA's Mississippi Association of COAs and COCs.

Mrs. Kilgore was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served as past president of United Methodist Women. She was past president of the Eupora Garden Club. She was a member of the Old Choctaw County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie W. Latham and Ora Lamb Latham; her husband, Elmer P. Kilgore; and a brother, Maston H. Latham, and his wife, Vera.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy L. White of Eupora, and her children and grandchildren, Deborah White of Eupora and Ronnie L. White Jr. and wife, Shelia White, Ronnie L. White III and J. Will White of Starkville; nephew Steven W. Latham and wife, Sue S. Latham, of Mathiston, and their daughter, Amanda L. Husak and husband, Mike Husak of Lawton, Okla.; niece Gail L. Henry Herbert "Bo" Knight, 74, of Slate Springs died Jan. 6, 2005, at his residence.

He was a retired farmer, merchant and gin manager.

Services were at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce on Jan. 8 with the Revs. William S. Weddle and Jimmy Latham officiating. Burial followed in the Old Bethany Cemetery in Webster County.

Pallbearers were his grandsons,, Matthew Knight, Mikie Knight, Trey Hawkins, Toby Lafayette, Mitchell Knight and Brett Knight.

Mr. Knight was born Aug. 17, 1930, to the late Granville and Willie Mae Beck Night in Webster County. He graduated from Slate Springs High School. Bo operated the family farm and later was president and manager of Four County Gin until his retirement. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Bo was a Master Mason at Adelphian Lodge #174 and received his 50-year pin in 2004.

Mrs. Pepper, a homemaker, was an active member of Whitehill Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard Pepper of Eupora; a daughter, Joy Lewis of Eupora; a son, John Leonard Pepper Jr. of Eupora; a sister, Helen Pepper of Eupora; a brother, James O. Mrs. Salley was born in Webster County on Dec. 28, 1924. She was a retired schoolteacher and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Meliesa Brown and Kathy Wood; two sons, Joe Salley and Billy Salley, all of Eupora; 11 grandchildren and a niece, Yvonne Middleton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Wood Salley; and an infant daughter, Monica Glen Salley.

Anthony D. Lucas, 32, of Ackerman died Feb. 4, 2005, in the line of duty as an officer on Whites Road near Weir.

Mr. Lucas was born April 10, 1972, in Choctaw County. He was on duty as chief of police for the town of French Camp at the time of his death. Mr. Lucas was a member of Blythe Creek Baptist Church.

A retired homemaker, Mrs. Bowen was born in Webster County and was a member of Shilo Hill Church of God near Eupora.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Smith of Eupora and Patsy B. Sexton of Decatur, Ill.; four sons, Cecil M. Bowen, Roy G. Bowen and Charles M. Bowen, all of Eupora, and Robert E. Bowen of Waynesboro; 46 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Cecil Bowen; two sons, John H. and Billy Joe Bowen; a sister, Polly Sealy Williams; and four brothers, Roy Sealy, Tom H. Sealy, Quentin Sealy and John E. Sealy.

Mr. Browder was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Petersburg, Va. He was retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service and a Vietnam veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana Browder Murphy of Mathiston; two sons, Thomas Browder of Eupora and Manfred Browder of Cabot, Ark.; a sister, Mildred Douglas of Hopewell, Va.; a brother, Thomas Bryant Browder of Dinwiddie, Va.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ute Browder.

Mrs. Pritchard, a retired homemaker, was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Webster County. She was a member of Midway Church of Christ.

Hugh C. Cooper, 80, of Eupora died March 5, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Mr. Cooper was born June 12, 1924, in Webster County. He was an industrial engineer with Futorian Manufacturing for more than 30 years. An Army veteran, he was stationed in Liverno, Italy, where he met his loving wife of 58 years, Egi.

Survivors include his wife, Egi Cooper of Eupora; a daughter, Paul Cooper Hines and husband, Bob, of Brandon; a sister, Sarah Turnage Dellapenna of Mize; a grandson, Stacey Hugh Dellapenna and wife, Lisa; four stepgrandchildren, Steve Jines and wife, Marlene, Mark Jines and wife, Kyoko, Cindy Knight and husband, Will, and Chris Jones; six stepgreat-grandchildren; five nephews; four nieces; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law in Livorno.

Doris M. Johnson, 81, died March 6, 2005, at her residence in Eupora.

Mrs. Johnson, a retired bank teller and homemaker, was a native of Clay County and a longtime resident of Eupora.

Blessed with a positive Christian attitude and a giving spirit, she was an active member of First Baptist Church. She loved her home and garden, and enjoyed sharing them with family and friends.

Although Parkinson's disease defined in many ways Doris' later life, she exhibited an uncommon graciousness in the face of long odds. "Every day is a good day" was her belief, and Doris lived 81 years sharing the blessings of joy and kindness with all she met. Her life was one of deep abiding love and grace.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Harpole and husband, Jack, of Hattiesburg; her son, Bobby Johnson and wife, Sherry, of Eupora; four grandchildren, four great-grandsons and her loving caregivers, Bell and Dorothy Bingham, Willie Pryor and Martha Rogers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W. E. and Stella Murrah; and her husband, Robert Add "Snook" Johnson.

Services were March 9 at First Baptist Church with burial in Eupora City Cemetery.

Ruth Norris Shepherd, 89, of Mathiston died March 12, 2005, at Vickers Personal Care Home in Mathiston.

Mrs. Shepherd, a retired homemaker, was born Sept. 28, 1915. She was a member of Starnes Tabernacle.

Survivors include her husband, J.C. Shepherd of Eupora; and several nieces and nephews.

Ada Mary Turman Ellison, 78, of Mantee died Feb. 21, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora

Mrs. Ellison was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Paynes. She was a retired sewing machine operator from Garan Manufacturing and a homemaker.

Mrs. Ellison was a wonderful wife, and mother of 11 children, grandmother of 30 and great-grandmother of 38.

Survivors include eight daughters and seven sons-in-law, Sue and James Lee Palmer of Maben, Patsy and John Jenkins of Tupelo, Joyce and Jessi Larmi, Jane and George Maddox, and Joan White, all of Eupora, Ann and the Rev. Keith Dendy of Louisville, and Betty Jo and Phillip Medders, and Barbara and David Gore, all of Mantee; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Rebbeca Ellison, Haven and Dee Ellison, and Ronnie and Valerie Ellison, all of Eupora; two sisters, Lucille Glasson of Mantee and Harriet Gaskin of West Point; a brother, Billy Turman of Houston; 30 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, the Rev. J.B. Ellison; a grandson, Kevin Neil Hardin; a granddaughter, Leigh Ann Gore; a sister, Inez Shelton; her mother, Leona Holland; and her father, Julian L. Turman.

Daniel Glenn "Dan" Gardner, 84, of Mathiston died Feb. 12, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Mr. Gardner was born June 9, 1920, in Milburn, Okla. He was a retired Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper and a member of Eupora First United Methodist Church.

The World War II veteran served in the 8th Air Force and was a prisoner of war. He worked as a highway patrolman in Mississippi for 30 years.

Luther Robert Sykes, 83, of Eupora died Feb. 17, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mr. Sykes, a retired service station owner, was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Sunflower County. He was a Marine veteran of World War II.

Mr. Sykes formerly owned a service station/body shop, worked for a time at Garan and worked for a time as a security guard at Webster General Hospital in Eupora.

He was a deacon at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, former member and president of VFW Post 3806 in Eupora, and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Sykes of Eupora; two daughters, Donna Donahoo and Beth Collum of Eupora; two sons, Ronald Wood of Ocala, Fla., and Stan Wood of Jackson; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jimmie Cornell Sykes; a son, Ray Sykes; and two brothers, Roy and James Sykes.

Edna Pittman Barnett, 80, of Eupora died Feb. 2, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mrs. Barnett was born July, 5 1924, in Leflore County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include three sons, Emmitt E Barnett, Danny Barnett and Huelon Barnett, all of Eupora; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Leevester Hill Sr., 67, of Bellefontaine died Jan. 19, 2005, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.

Mr. Hill was born Aug. 3, 1938. died from injuries sustained in a fire at his trailer last week.

Ouida Crowley Carroll, 84, of Mathiston died July 3, 2005, at her residence.

Mrs. Carroll, a homemaker, was born March 2, 1921, in Webster County. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Faye Nickels of Mathiston; a son, Sammy "Buddy" Carroll of Columbus; two sisters, Maudean Pollan and Jessie Faye Hunter Peeples of Eupora; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Margaret Louise Guess, 88, of Ackerman died June 29, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mrs. Guess, a homemaker, was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Millington, Tenn. She was a member of Fentress Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, William Guess of Magee, Curtis Guess and wife, Geneva, of Ackerman, Jerry Guess and wife, Judy, of Caledonia, and David Guess and wife, Patsy, of Union; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Joe Hood Wilson, 76, owner/operator of J.V. Wilson Leather Co. in Bellefontaine, died Oct. 17, 2005, at his residence in Bellefontaine from Alzheimer's disease.

Mr. Wilson was born on Dec. 25, 1928, to James Vernon and Erma Hood Wilson. The son of a Baptist preacher, he made his profession of faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 10, and spent his life serving God, his country, his family and his community.

Mr. Wilson graduated as president of his Eupora High School Class of 1946 and from Mississippi State University with a master's degree in business administration in 1952. For 40 years, he successfully ran his father's business, J.V. Wilson Leather Co., a manufacturer and distributor of fine leather products throughout the South. His son, Randy, succeeds him in running the company.

Joe Hood Wilson loved his community and church. His many years of service as deacon, choir member and Sunday School teacher best exemplified his love for God and Fellowship Baptist Church in Bellefontaine.

He served as president of the board of directors of Dorroh Lake Baptist Assembly in 1966 and as a faithful board member for about 25 years. Mr. Wilson was a member of the Webster County School Board for many years, and he served his country in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his father, JV. Wilson; and daughter, Scotti Wilson Doler.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Wofford Wilson; his mother, Erma Wilson Kothe; one son, Randy Wilson, and his wife, Gwen Booth Wilson; and six grandchildren, Andrea Doler Clanton and husband Melvin, Scott Doler, Jondelyn Doler, Rachel Wilson, Emily Wilson and Arey Wilson.

Services were Oct. 20 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Jon Doler and the Rev. Jimmy Latham officiating. Burial was in North Union Cemetery in Bellefontaine with Oliver Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Selma Stallings Castle, 97, of Eupora died Oct. 16, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Castle, born March 29, 1908, was a lifelong resident of Webster County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eupora.

Her life was characterized by her gentle, selfless acts of giving and sacrifices made for loved ones, which she considered only as "taking care of." She was an avid gardener and a lover of nature and flowers where her greater joy was to share her roses with neighbors and friends.

Survivors include a son, Judd Robert Castle; three daughters, Lady Jane Vowell of Huntsville, Ala., Judy Williams of Birmingham, Ala., and Dorothy Castle of Eupora; two grandchildren, Lady Smith and Judd Alan Vowell; and two great-grandchildren, Corinne Smith and Duncan Smith.

Her husband, T.D. Castle; a son, Tom D. Castle Jr.; a brother, R.B. Stallings; and a sister, Opal McKee; preceded her in death.

Services were Oct. 18 at Wise Funeral Home with burial in Eupora City Cemetery.

Joseph Cooper Sr., 80, of Williamson, W. Va., died Oct. 19, 2005, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born July 30, 1925, in Drew to the late John Thomas Cooper and Irene Sparkman Cooper, he was retired from the N&W Railroad with 42 years of service. He was a member of Williamson Area Church of God, where he was a former Sunday School superintendent and served as the church clerk for 25 years. He was also active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and served as a softball coach for eight years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Irene Meredith Cooper; four brothers, Lynton, Walter, Thomas and James Cooper; and a sister, Mary Cooper.

Surviving are his sons, Robert Thomas and Joseph Lee Cooper Jr. of Williamson, and Jonathan Cooper of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Linda Ruth Kolb of Hattiesburg; five brothers, Samuel, Oliver, John, Henry and Isaac Cooper; five sisters, Rilla Herman, Bertha Hill, Alice Sorrells, Rosie Brown and Margie Jackson; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Scott, 94, of Ridgeland died Oct. 15, 2005, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson after a short illness.

Her long life was centered around her family and her faith. She taught Sunday School, led youth groups, and played the piano and organ at the Sledge Methodist Church for more than 50 years. In good times and bad, she was always a pillar of strength to her family and friends.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sam E. and Carol Scott; three grandchildren, Leigh S. McGregor, Samuel Scott and Christopher Scott; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Gene Ewing.

Her husband, Sam T. Scott, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Cooper, a homemaker, was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Webster County. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cooper was known for her love for her church, family and friends, and for her great Southern cooking.

Martha Langston Macon, 91, of Brandon died Oct. 11, 2005, at Rankin Medical Center in Brandon.

Janice Ruth Smith, 51, of Eupora died Oct. 14, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Mrs. Smith, a homemaker, was born Nov. 27, 1953, in West Point. She was a member of Montevista Baptist Church.

Survivors include her father, Kenneth Smith of Montevista; three sons, Thomas Eric Smith of Montevista, Karey Michael Smith of Eupora and Robert Steven Smith of Tomnolen; two sisters, Glenda Springer of Tupelo and Debbie Wright of Montevista; a brother, Ken Smith of Montevista; and four grandchildren.

Hugh V. Gatlin, 84, of Eupora died Nov. 15, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare-Eupora.

Mr. Gatlin was a retired farms and factory worker. A World War II Army veteran of the 33rd Infantry, he was a member of the Merrill Marauders that participated in the 100-mile march.

Survivors include two daughters, Marie Betts of Van Vleet and Debby Tuck of Mathiston; a son, Dewayne Gatlin of Kosciusko; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Gatlin; and two sons, Bobby and David Gatlin.

Clara Lou McCain Nelms Gordon, 94, of Greenwood died Nov. 14, 2005, at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood.

Mrs. Nelms, a retired homemaker/caregiver, was born Oct. 14, 1911, in Webster County.

Survivors include her husband, Dewitt Gordon of Greenwood; and three sisters, Velma Bright of Mathiston, Mazell Stokes of Olive Branch and Rosie Mae St. Laurent of Columbus, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Nelms; four brothers, W.L. "Buddy," Ben, Willie and Jim McCain; four sisters, Eselle Sheppeard, Lillian Vera Poe, Iva Lee Hodges and Lola Weeks.

Phyllis Anne Jenkins, 57, of Weir died Nov. 16, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mrs. Jenkins, a retired nurse, was born Oct. 1, 1948, in Montgomery County. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in education.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Elizabeth Jenkins of Mathiston and Shane and Tammy Jenkins of Weir; her stepmother, Janie B. Johnson of Weir; and a grandson, Chance Jenkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Jenkins; and her parents, Samuel Walter Johnson and Betty Catherine Johnson.

Rachel Louise Mitchell, 93, died Nov. 17, 2005.

Miss Mitchell, a retired lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, was a native of Webster County. She was a lifetime member of Bellefontaine United Methodist Church and an associate member of Eupora United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Miss Mitchell was a graduate of Eupora High School and South Highlands Infirmary School of Nursing in Birmingham, Ala., with post-graduate studies at Chicago Lying-In in Chicago. She served during World War II and Korea before retiring in 1965.

She was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Retired Officers Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include a sister, Margurite McCann Eaton of Columbus; a brother, A. Howell Mitchell of Eupora; a niece, Peggy Mitchell Stafford of Southaven; three nephews, Thomas M. McCann of Atlanta, Donny Mitchell of Eupora and Landreth "Lanny" Mitchell of Germantown, Tenn.; three great-nieces and five great-nephews.

J.W. Nolen, 91, of Eupora died Nov. 14, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

The Rev. Nolen, a minister, was born Aug. 27, 1914, in Webster County. He was a member of Eupora First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Christine May and Lucy Jones of Stewart, and Ernestine Killian of Quitman; a son, Thomas Nolen of Madison; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Lou Ella Singleton Nolen and Edna Peeler Nolen; a daughter, Mary Lynn Nolen; and a grandson, Tommy Nolen.

Harold Finnell Dorroh, 91, of Bellefontaine died Nov. 8, 2005, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.

Mr. Dorroh, a retired self-employed farmer, was born Dec. 17, 1913, in Dentontown. He was a World War II Army veteran who was extremely proud to have fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, the VFW and the American Legion, and was a Gideon.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Thompson Dorroh of Bellefontaine; two daughters, LaNell Kellum and husband, Bill, of Starkville, and Deborah Alexander of Hartford, Conn.; two sisters, Louise Vance of Slate Springs and Pauline McPhail of Hernando; and four grandchildren, Chip Bagwell, Missy Bagwell, Rayme Miller and Randy Alexander.

Mrs. Paxton, a retired homemaker, was a native and lifelong resident of Webster County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eupora.

Her most valuable contribution to this life was the loving example she set for her children and grandchildren.

Glenn Gary, 46, of Eupora died Oct. 26, 2005, in a motor vehicle accident near Stewart.

Survivors include his mother, Lula Gary of Eupora; six brothers, Allen Gary and L.V. Gary of Columbus, Ohio, and Isaac Gary, Charles Gary, Larry Gary and Willie B. Gary, all of Eupora.

Phillip L. Sudduth, 25, of Eupora died Oct. 26, 2005, in a motor vehicle accident near Stewart.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Sudduth; two brothers, Jessie Sudduth and William Sudduth; his maternal grandmother, Mima Bingham; and his paternal grandmothers, Julia Sudduth, all of Eupora.

Earlene White Lucius, 88, of Eupora died Oct. 31, 2005, at her daughter's home in Moselle.

Mrs. Lucius, a retired homemaker, was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Webster County. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Rilda Eaves of Moselle; four sisters, Cecil Hooper of Cofax, La., Monette Nations of Jackson, Margie Truell of Eupora and Lorena Lucius of Houston; three brothers, Willis White, Porter White and Nelson White of Eupora; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her husband, R.C. Lucius, preceded her in death.

Selma Stallings Castle, 97, of Eupora died Oct. 16, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Castle, born March 29, 1908, was a lifelong resident of Webster County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eupora.

Her life was characterized by her gentle, selfless acts of giving and sacrifices made for loved ones, which she considered only as "taking care of." She was an avid gardener and a lover of nature and flowers where her greater joy was to share her roses with neighbors and friends.

Survivors include a son, Judd Robert Castle; three daughters, Lady Jane Vowell of Huntsville, Ala., Judy Williams of Birmingham, Ala., and Dorothy Castle of Eupora; two grandchildren, Lady Smith and Judd Alan Vowell; and two great-grandchildren, Corinne Smith and Duncan Smith.

Her husband, T.D. Castle; a son, Tom D. Castle Jr.; a brother, R.B. Stallings; and a sister, Opal McKee; preceded her in death.

Services were Oct. 18 at Wise Funeral Home with burial in Eupora City Cemetery.

Kyle K. Cochran, 81, of Mathiston died Oct. 28, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mr. Cochran was a mechanical fitter and farmer. He was a member of Clarkson Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann Edwards of Ackerman, Carolyn McMullen of Mathiston and Beverly Vaughan of Maben; three sons, Jimmy Dan Cochran of Pheba, Paul E. Cochran of Ethel and Donnie Cochran of Mathiston; a sister, Bernice Tubb of Ft. Worth, Texas; 10 grandchildren and eight grand-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Cochran.

C.A. Davis Jr., 76, of Weir died Oct. 28, 2005, at Choctaw County Medical Center.

Mr. Davis was born June 22, 1929, in Choctaw County. He was a former Belwood Manufacturers employee and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church..

Survivors include his wife, Roxie Davis of Weir; four sons, Bobby Davis and Terry Davis of Weir, Jackie Davis of Huntsville, Ala., and Jimmy Davis of Batesville; two daughters, Marsha Collins and Linda Wills of Weir; a sister, Clara Mae Woods of Stewart; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ferguson, a homemaker, was born in Webster County.

Survivors include two sons, Loyd Eugene Ferguson of Chuckey, Tenn., and Robert Edward "Buddy" Ferguson of Fitzgerald, Ga.; a daughter, Sara Louise Lemmons of Columbus; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.E. Ferguson; one grandson, Bobby Ferguson; and one great-grandson, Jason Ferguson.

Mr. Ray was born July 23, 1937, in Eupora. He was receiving agent for Webster County and a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Burnice Ray of Eupora; two daughters, Patricia Ray Gill of Mathiston and Lisa Ray Allred of Eupora; a son, Kevin Earl Ray of Eupora; and five grandchildren, Richard Justin Allred, Jessica LaRay Allred, William Joshuea Allred, Marlee Mitchell Ray and Macey Kate Ray.

Miss Pepper, a retired nurse, was born July 30, 1948, in Memphis, Tenn. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her mother, Helen Pepper of Eupora; her father, Josh Pepper of Eupora; and two sisters, Jacqueline Kay Pritchett of Bellefontaine and Jan Collins of Batesville.

William Stacey Drewery Rushing, 33, died Oct. 26 at his home in Mathiston.

Mr. Rushing was an equipment operator. He was a member of Maben First Baptist Church and a Maben volunteer fireman.

Survivors include a son, William Cobrady Drewery of Mathiston; his mother, Ann Rushing of Mathiston; his grandmothers, Ann Edwards of Eupora and Estelle Parker of Maben; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Cynthia and Chuck Cole, Susan and Randy Stuckey, and Melissa and John Fuller, all of Mathiston; a brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Brenda Rushing of Mathiston; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Thomas Hue Steadman, 64, died Oct. 24, 2005, at his home in Eupora.

Mr. Steadman, a maintenance supervisor, was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mr. Loyd Derwood Wilson, 70, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 26, 2005, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora, MS. Rev. Archie Goodwin will officiate with burial to follow in Clarkson Cemetery in Webster County. Visitation is Friday, November 25 from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

A native of Webster County, Mr. Wilson was retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 36 years of service. He was a Baptist and a veteran of the US Army where he was a paratrooper. Mr. Wilson died Monday, November 21, 2005, at Central MS Medical Center in Jackson.

Survivors include his two daughters, Debbie Wilson Darcey of Memphis, TN, and Teresa Wilson McMinn of Mathiston, MS; two sisters, Helen McKenzie of Vicksburg, MS, and Peggy Hood of Starkville, MS; three brothers, Roy Wilson of Laurel, MS, Loydy Wilson of Laurel, MS, and Larry Wilson of Meridian, MS; and five grandchildren.

John Joseph Mamrak Sr., 84, of Weir died Nov. 22, 2005, at Choctaw County Medical Center in Ackerman. Mr. Mamrak, a baker, was born May 16, 1921, in Perth Amboy, N.J. He was a resident of Florida but moved to Mississippi approximately six months ago. He was a member of The Church of Little Flower in Hollywood, Fla., and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Christine Butler Hendrix, 80, of Maben died Nov. 22, 2005, on the Natchez Trace Parkway as a result of an automobile accident. The accident also claimed the life of her aunt, Mary E. Bland. Mrs. Hendrix, a retired seamstress, was born April 17, 1926. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on Sept. 1, 1973. She was a member of the Mantee Congregation, where she served as a full-time Bible teacher for more than 13 years. She found great satisfaction in this work and she was known for her zeal in teaching others. Survivors include two sisters, Vera Mae Butler and Annie Ruth Butler of Maben; four brothers, Billy Butler of Okolona, and Dexter Butler, Johnny Butler and Marvin Butler, all of Maben; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, and a large spiritual family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Percy L. Hendrix; and her parents, Marvin Buford Butler and Annie Lois Bland Butler. A joint memorial service for her and her aunt was Nov. 24 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Mantee with the Rev. Gerald Butler officiating. A private family burial was held for both. Mary Elizabeth Bland, 83, of Maben, MS, died Nov. 22, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on the Natchez Trace Parkway. The accident also claimed the life of her niece, Christine B. Hendrix. Miss Bland, a retired school teacher and factory worker, was born Feb. 5 1922, in Webster County. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on Aug. 22, 1953. She was a member of the Mantee Congregation, where she served faithfully as a publisher. She delighted in Bible study and sharing her faith with others. Survivors include nine nieces, Linda Carol Naron, Rebecca Whittington, Debbie Walters, Dorothy Stuckey, Mary Catherine Hillman, Delores Bland, Carolyn Sue Gibbens, Vera Mae Butler and Annie Ruth Butler; six nephews, Mickey Gill, Jimmy Gill, Marvin Butler, Dexter Butler, Billy Butler and Johnny Butler; a cousin, Reva Mae Ray; as well as a large spiritual family. She loved Mississippi State University football and loved sitting on her porch and listening to the game on the radio. She was a retired business owner, owning and operating Lewis Upholstery in Starkville. Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Hamilton Dobbs and husband, Thomas, of Maben, and Dee A. Mrs. White was a long time resident of Eupora and a member of Union Baptist Church in Stewart.      She is survived by: her daughter, Deborah G. �Debbie� White of Louisville; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie L. and Shelia White, Jr. of Starkville; a god son, James Richard Stoker of Stewart; grandsons, Ronnie L. White, Ill and James William White both of Starkville; a niece and her husband, Gail and Arthur Odom of Longview; two nephews and their wives, Steve and Sue Latham of Louisville, and Mike and Mandy Husak of Lawton, Okla.; and three sister-in-laws, Nora Carroll and Sarah Hitt both of Eupora, and Marjorie Nabors of Meridian. Earl Webb Maxey, 82, of Bellefontaine died Nov. 13, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Mr. Maxey was retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 30 years of service. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Bellefontaine and a World War II veteran. Rachel L. Mitchell, 93, a retired Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, died Thursday, Nov. 17,2005 in North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. Visitation is 11:30 a.m. until the 2:30 p.m. service Saturday at Wise Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with burial in North Union Cemetery near Bellefontaine.

Miss. Mitchell was a native of Webster County. She was a lifetime member of Bellefontaine United Methodist Church and an associate member of Eupora United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of Eupora High School and South Highlands Infinnary School of Nursing in Birmingham, Alabama, Post graduate studies at Chicago Lying-In, in Chicago.

She served during WW II and Korea before retiring in 1965. She was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Retired Officers Association and The Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by: a sister, Margurite McCann Eaton of Columbus; a brother, A. Howell Mitchell of Eupora; a niece, Peggy Mitchell Stafford of Southaven; three nephews; Thomas M. McCann of Atlanta, Ga., Donny Mitchell of Eupora and Landreth (Lanny) Mitchell of Germantown, Tenn.; three great nieces and five great nephews.

Mrs. Castle, born March 29, 1908, was a lifelong resident of Webster County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom D. Castle and a son, Tom D. Castle, Jr.; brother, R. B. Stallings and sister, Opal McKee. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eupora. Her life was characterized by her gentle, selfless acts of giving and sacrifices made for loved ones, which she considered only as �taking care of.� She was an avid gardener and a lover of nature and flowers where her greatest joy was to share her roses with neighbors and friends.

She is survived by a son, Judd Robert Castle; three daughters, Lady Jane Vowell of Huntsville, Ala., Judy Williams of Birmingham, Ala., and Dorothy Castle of Eupora; grandchildren, Lady Smith and Judd Alan Vowell; and great grandchildren, Corinne and Duncan Smith.

 West Point � Mary Alice Allen White, 88 died Apr. 7, 2005, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. Services were Saturday at Calvert Funeral Home with Sam Edwards and Sammy McMillen officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Mathiston. Mrs. White was born to the late Ed Latham and Maggie Shaffer in Hardemon Co., Texas. In addition to her parent�s she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marion Allen, and son�s, Bobby Wayne Allen and Roy Lane Allen. James K. Collier, 83, of Forest Hill Nursing Center in Jackson died March 29, 2005, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Mr. Hawkins, a farmer/carpenter, was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Oktibbeha County. He was a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church in Sturgis and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Stephenson Collier of Louisville; a daughter, Elizabeth An Worley of Byram; a brother, John D. Collier of Ackerman; a sister, Ruby Butler of Sturgis; and two grandchildren.

Sarah Cooper Turnage Dellapenna, 79, of Mize died March 23, 2005, at Hospice in Hands in Mize.

Mrs. Turnage was born March 15, 1926, in Eupora. She was retired from the Mississippi State Hospital and a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church in Jackson.

Services include a daughter, Linda Downing; three sons, Ernest Turnage, Larry Turnage and Dale Turnage, all of Mize; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were March 25 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Clarkson Cemetery. The Rev. William S. Weddle officiated.

Mrs. Duvall, a homemaker, was born Dec. 10, 1912, in Choctaw County. She was a member of Eupora First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Blakely of Duck Hill; two sons, Alvin "Buster" Duvall of Eupora and Elvin "Butch" Duvall of Carrollton; a sister, Martha Jean Staggs of Eupora; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Ethel Miranda Bright Hunt

Ethel Miranda Bright Hunt, 91, of Ackerman died March 29, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus.

Mrs. Hunt, a homemaker, was born Jan. 23, 1914, in Choctaw County. She was a member of Ackerman Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Berton C. Hunt, Therrell B. Hunt and Charlie Hunt Jr., all of Ackerman; two sisters, Jeannette McGill of Mexico and Ella Staples of Ackerman; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Harold D. Hunt.

Jane Murphy Reves, 86, of Eupora died March 24, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare.

Mrs. Reves, a homemaker, was born June 22, 1918, in the Bywy community. She was a member of Bywy Presbyterian Church.

Jane loved to garden and work in her flowers. She was happiest when her foot was on a shovel and her hands were covered with God's good earth.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Roy K. " Buster" Reves; and a daughter, Priscilla Reves, both of Eupora.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her eight brothers and sisters.

Services were March 30 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Eupora City Cemetery. The Rev. James Caffey officiated.

Edwin Howard Sanders Jr.

Edwin Howard Sanders Jr., 89, of Jackson died April 1, 2005, in Eupora.

Mr. Sanders, a timber buyer, was a member of Maben Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Betty Pinkerton of Maben and Mary Medor of Laurel.

Services were April 3 at Welch Funeral Home in Maben with burial in Maben Cemetery. The Revs. Randle Poss and Jean Threadgill officiated.

Jimmie Runnels

Jimmie Earline Runnels, 83, of Benoit died March 19, 2005, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville.

Mrs. Runnels was born March 11, 1922, in Webster County to Thomas Hubert Guest and Lula Gray Ward Guest. She married Loyd Vernon Runnels on Sept. 1, 1936, in Walthall and had lived in Benoit for more than 42 years.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Runnels of Cleveland and Loyd Runnels Jr. of Sarah; three daughters, Betty Jo Yates of Indianola, Barbara Dowdy of Wetumpka, Ala., and Laura Skelton of Marshall, Texas; two sisters, Virgie Grissom of Tutwiler and Martha Smith of Sardis; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Runnels; a niece, Carol Hillhouse; and two nephews, Bobby and Rodger Runnels, all of Eupora.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lula Mae Guest.

Services were March 21 at Benoit United Church with burial in Delta Heights Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Stevens officiated.

Randy Gilbert Starnes, 55, died April 3, 2005, at his residence near Ackerman.

Mr. Starnes was born Feb. 17, 1950, in Choctaw County. He was a commercial truck driver and a lifelong resident of Choctaw County.

Mr. Loyd Derwood Wilson

Funeral services for Mr. Loyd Derwood Wilson, 70, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 26, 2005, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora, MS. Rev. Archie Goodwin will officiate with burial to follow in Clarkson Cemetery in Webster County. Visitation is Friday, November 25 from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

A native of Webster County, Mr. Wilson was retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 36 years of service. He was a Baptist and a veteran of the US Army where he was a paratrooper. Mr. Wilson died Monday, November 21, 2005, at Central MS Medical Center in Jackson.

Survivors include his two daughters, Debbie Wilson Darcey of Memphis, TN, and Teresa Wilson McMinn of Mathiston, MS; two sisters, Helen McKenzie of Vicksburg, MS, and Peggy Hood of Starkville, MS; three brothers, Roy Wilson of Laurel, MS, Loydy Wilson of Laurel, MS, and Larry Wilson of Meridian, MS; and five grandchildren.

Judy Ivy Dobbs, 55, of Ackerman died Nov. 19, 2005, at her residence.

Mrs. Dobbs was born July 4, 1950, in Webster County but was a resident of Choctaw County all of her life. She was a data entry clerk for Allstate Insurance.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley Dobbs; a son, Chris Dobbs; a daughter, Jessica Dobbs; and a brother, Joe Ivy, all of Ackerman.

Services were Nov. 21 at Coleman Funeral Home with burial in Enon Cemetery. The Revs. George Buell and Kenneth Hall officiated.

Hugh V. Gatlin

Hugh V. Gatlin, 84, of Eupora died Nov. 15, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare-Eupora.

Mr. Gatlin was a retired farms and factory worker. A World War II Army veteran of the 33rd Infantry, he was a member of the Merrill Marauders that participated in the 100-mile march.

Survivors include two daughters, Marie Betts of Van Vleet and Debby Tuck of Mathiston; a son, Dewayne Gatlin of Kosciusko; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Gatlin; and two sons, Bobby and David Gatlin.

Clara Lou McCain Nelms Gordon

Clara Lou McCain Nelms Gordon, 94, of Greenwood died Nov. 14, 2005, at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood.

Mrs. Nelms, a retired homemaker/caregiver, was born Oct. 14, 1911, in Webster County.

Survivors include her husband, Dewitt Gordon of Greenwood; and three sisters, Velma Bright of Mathiston, Mazell Stokes of Olive Branch and Rosie Mae St. Laurent of Columbus, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Nelms; four brothers, W.L. "Buddy," Ben, Willie and Jim McCain; four sisters, Eselle Sheppeard, Lillian Vera Poe, Iva Lee Hodges and Lola Weeks.

Evelyn Jannette 'Polly' Huddleston

Evelyn Jannette "Polly" Huddleston, 86, died Nov. 15, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Mrs. Huddleston was born July 8, 1919, in Abbeville to the late Della Holland and John Robert Sullender. She married Oliver Clyde Huddleston, who predeceased her on April 11, 1982.

Mrs. Huddleston was a retired deputy clerk for Clay County chancery clerk, having served under George Howard and Bill Permenter. She also worked in the tax assessor's office under Dean Dill and Marianne Middleton.

Over the years, she worked as a teller for Bank of Mississippi. She was an active member of the West Point Pilot Club and was past president. She had also served as secretary to the governor of Pilot International.

In the community Mrs. Huddleston served many years on the hospital board; she served at the time the new Clay County Medical Center was constructed and was always proud that she had shoveled the first spade of dirt for the dedication of the new facility. She was also a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia H. Sullender of Vicksburg and Evelyn H. Clay of Eupora; eight grandchildren: 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Eugene Sullender of Jackson, Tenn.

Services were Nov. 18 at Calvert Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in West Point. The Rev. Don Parish officiated.

Pallbearers were Mike Clay. Kenny Dill, Jerry Gary, Jesse Harmon, Max Hinshaw and Mancil Ray.

Phyllis Anne Jenkins, 57, of Weir died Nov. 16, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mrs. Jenkins, a retired nurse, was born Oct. 1, 1948, in Montgomery County. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in education.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Elizabeth Jenkins of Mathiston and Shane and Tammy Jenkins of Weir; her stepmother, Janie B. Johnson of Weir; and a grandson, Chance Jenkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Jenkins; and her parents, Samuel Walter Johnson and Betty Catherine Johnson.

Charles L. McGee 74, of Grenada, died Nov. 16, 2005, at Grenada Lake Medical Center.

Mr. McGee was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Justin Tyler McLendon, 12, of Eupora died Nov. 16, 2005, at University Medical Center in Jackson.

Justin was a seventh-grader at Ackerman High School. He played on the junior high football team and was a member of the Ackerman band.

Survivors include his parents, Corkey and Tina McLendon of Eupora; his maternal grandparents, Bud and Betty Franklin of Eupora; his paternal grandfather, Pete Whatley of Eupora; his paternal grandparents, Tim and Bonnie McLendon of Jackson; a sister, Heather McLendon of Eupora; two uncles; three aunts; many cousins and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Jean Whatley.

Rachel Louise Mitchell

Rachel Louise Mitchell, 93, died Nov. 17, 2005.

Miss Mitchell, a retired lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, was a native of Webster County. She was a lifetime member of Bellefontaine United Methodist Church and an associate member of Eupora United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Miss Mitchell was a graduate of Eupora High School and South Highlands Infirmary School of Nursing in Birmingham, Ala., with post-graduate studies at Chicago Lying-In in Chicago. She served during World War II and Korea before retiring in 1965.

She was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Retired Officers Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include a sister, Margurite McCann Eaton of Columbus; a brother, A. Howell Mitchell of Eupora; a niece, Peggy Mitchell Stafford of Southaven; three nephews, Thomas M. McCann of Atlanta, Donny Mitchell of Eupora and Landreth "Lanny" Mitchell of Germantown, Tenn.; three great-nieces and five great-nephews.

Services were Nov. 19 at Wise Funeral Home with burial in North Union Cemetery. The Revs. Larry Creel and Julia Stephenson officiated.

J.W. Nolen, 91, of Eupora died Nov. 14, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

The Rev. Nolen, a minister, was born Aug. 27, 1914, in Webster County. He was a member of Eupora First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Christine May and Lucy Jones of Stewart, and Ernestine Killian of Quitman; a son, Thomas Nolen of Madison; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Lou Ella Singleton Nolen and Edna Peeler Nolen; a daughter, Mary Lynn Nolen; and a grandson, Tommy Nolen.

A Maben native, she was a retired teacher with the Tunica County Schools and a Baptist.

Margaret Simmons Irving, 72, died at her residence in Weir on Dec. 26, 2005.

Mrs. Irving was born in McCool and had since lived in Jackson, Canton and Walls before retiring to Weir. As a Presbyterian, she served as the daycare director of Southaven Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John M. Irving of Weir; four sons, John T Irving of Olive Branch; Frank M. Irving of Weir; James C. Irving of Jackson and Tracy B. Alton Howard Shaw Sr., 84, of Kosciusko died Dec. 22, 2005, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko.

Mr. Shaw, a retired supervisor at B&W and a farmer, was born May 30, 1921, in Choctaw County. He was a World War II Army veteran and served with Merrill's Marauders. He was a member of Walthall Baptist Church and the American Legion.

Mr. Thompson was born May 6, 1931, in Oktibbeha County. He was retired from the Animal Science Department at Mississippi State University, where he was employed for 20 years. His hobby was chasing coons. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Tess Arnold, 22-month-old daughter of Jeff and Teresa Arnold of Jackson, went to be with Jesus May 7, 2005, at Rankin Medical Center in Brandon.

Tess came into this world on July 16, 2003, to the delight of her parents and older brother, Dean. She was a girl who already loved her purses and jewelry and bows. Tess was crazy about her big brother. Though her days here with us were few, she touched and amused so many with her sweet and charming words and joy for life.

Survivors include her parents, Jeff and Teresa Arnold; a brother, Dean Arnold of Jackson; maternal grandparents, Martin and Gwen Blough of Brandon; paternal grandfather, Morris D. Services were May 5 at Fellowship Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Revs. Russell Mord, J.D. Harrison and Andy Parrish officiated.

Polly Onita Kellum

Polly Onita Kellum, 92, of Maben died May 3, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mrs. Kellum, a homemaker, was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Carroll County. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Eliza Parker and Onita Parker of Maben; two sons, Fint Kellum of Byhalia and Estel "Buddy" Kellum of Mathiston; a brother, Rastus Goss of Lexington; 20 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 83 great-great-grandchildren and four great-great-great-grandchildren.

Services were May 5 at Double Springs Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Revs. Charles White and John Foles officiated.

Pallbearers were Chuck Cole, Dale Parker, Davis Parker, Nick Parker, Gary Simms and Randy Stuckey.

Bernice Burton O'Brian

Bernice Burton O'Brian, 85, of Eupora died May 3, 2005, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Mrs. O'Brian was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Webster County. She was a retired office manager at Gifford Medical Clinic and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Reid Golding of Eupora; two sisters, Christine Burton Towery and Nellie Mai Burton Baswell of West Point; four nieces and one nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ogle O'Brian.

Services were May 6 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Providence Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Creel officiated.

Louis Curtis Power

Louis Curtis Power, 82, of Weir died May 2, 2005, at his residence.

Mr. Power was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Choctaw County. He was owner and operator of Power Service Station for 37-1/2 years. He had been a deacon in Weir and New Zion Baptist churches for 49 years, a member of Campers on Mission and of the Winnebago Travel Club since 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie Sue Power of Weir; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Sandra Power of Bay St. Louis; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Rice of Pearl; a sister, Aileen Braswell of Millington, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Betsey Rice, Stephanie P. Ruoss and Doug Power; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were May 5 at Weir Baptist Church with burial in South Union Methodist Church Cemetery. The Revs. Jim Pender, Curtis Guess and Ferrell Cork officiated.

Rosco Leonard Robinson

Rosco Leonard Robinson, 66, died May 3, 2005, at his residence in Maben.

Mr. Robinson, a self-employed logger, was born in Oktibbeha County.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Jane Robinson of Maben; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Fleming of Eupora; five sons, Tony Robinson and Ray Robinson of Grenada, Leonard James Lucas of Clarkson, Sylvester Lewis Robinson of Maben and Donald Wayne Robinson of Eupora; a sister, Dorothy Josephine Lucas of Maben; a brother, L.C. Robinson of Maben; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was May 7 at Welch Funeral Home in Maben. The Rev. Billy Hurtoe was minister.

Eric M. Stephenson

Eric M. Stephenson, 79, of Flint, Mich., died April 27, 2005, at Avalon Hospice in Flint.

Mr. Stephenson was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Ackerman. He married Joan Bukosky on April 28, 1956, in Flint.

He enjoyed NASCAR, boating, fishing, spending time with his family and friends and spending time in Florida. Mr. Stephenson was owner and operator of Stephenson Tree Surgeon since 1956.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Stephenson of Flint; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Stephen Rowley of Flushing, Mich.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Paula Stephenson and David and Angela Stephenson of Flint; seven grandchildren, Steven and Craig Woodley, Christal Stephenson, Mary Condron, Stephen Rowley, Carolyn Rowley and Colleen Rowley, 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Renford and Bell Stephenson of Eupora and Billy and Mary Stephenson of Ackerman; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Julia and Grady Hollis of Starkville, and Faye and Joe Ivy and Peggy and Reed Mason of Ackerman; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Billy (formerly of Webster County) and Pauline Crenshaw of Burton, Mich.

Services were April 30 at Swartz Funeral Home in Flint with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. Robert L. Dickie II officiated.

Resa Elijah Wasson

The Rev. Resa Elijah Wasson, 98, of Inverness died April 30, 2005, at Traceway Manor in Tupelo.

The Rev. Wasson, a retired Methodist minister, was born in the Shady Grove community in Attala County, where he received his education and graduated from McAdams Schools. He attended Millsaps and later graduated from Delta State University. He received his license into the United Methodist Conference and ministered for 44 years. After retiring, he made his home in Inverness for the last 30 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Dell Hubbard of Eupora and Elizabeth King of Inverness; a son, the Rev. Warren Wasson of Venice, Fla.; three sisters, Opal Burleson of San Francisco, Hilda Walton of Kosciusko and Linda Olerton of San Diego; three brothers, Alton Wasson, Billy Wasson and Timothy Wasson, all of Kosciusko; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were May 3 at Inverness United Methodist Church with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery in Attala County

 Mathiston � Betty Joan Hill Faulkner, 63, of Mathiston died July 31, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital � Golden Triangle. Services were today at 10 a.m. at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with Don Parrish officiating. Burial was at New Hope Cemetery in Webster County. Ms. Faulkner was born July 4, 1942, Gloster to Lillie Mae Hill and the late John Russell Hill. She managed Newman Oil Company�s Newmart Store in Mathiston for 15 year�s. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She is survied by her mother Lillie Mae Hill of Mathiston; son, Sammy Faulkner of Mathiston; sister�s, Ora Johnson of Columbus and Annie Frazier of Greenville; and brothers, Robert Lee �Bud� Hill of Kilmichael, Earl Hill of Houston; Ervin Hill of Winona.
