About the USGenWeb Project

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

In June, as the Kentucky Project was coming to completion, it was decided to create this page for all states, establishing the USGenWeb. Volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of county pages for a state page. If you would like to contribute your data or create a county page within a given state, please contact the person responsible for maintaining your state page.

How to Volunteer

All of the Virginia counties and independent cities now have a webpage. However, some may be available for adoption. To find out whether a county or independent city is available for adoption, check the County Index on the VAGenWeb page, or contact Linda Russell Lewis.

The VAGen Web Archives needs files! If you have transcriptions of original documents such as wills, deeds, Bible records, etc., please contact the coordinator of that county's webpage. He or she will be happy to help with your Archives submission.

In addition to county and city webpages, USGenWeb has two other projects in progress. To find out more about them and how you can be involved, follow these links:

How to Contribute to the MSGenWeb Archives

If you have any electronically formatted files of Mississippi documents you would like to submit and that meet the guidelines of the project, please contact Sue Abruscato. Due to limitations on server space available for storing the files, Family History and GEDCOM files cannot be accepted at this time.
