Below, you will find an index of the census sorted
by name. Getting to the page you are looking for will be
different depending on what website you are viewing the census on,
however, the sheet number in the upper right of each page will be
the same no matter where you look. We used
1940census.archives.gov to view the census but familysearch and
ancestry also have it. The following is based on
1940census.archives.gov. On the index below, you will see
columns with district, sheet, ed page, house, last name, and first
name. Locate your ancestor, then go to the enumeration
district they were in; |
Locate Enumeration District, click it, click
census schedules, then view district. |
You should now see a census page. If you scroll all the way to the right, you will find the sheet number.
|
The 1940.archives.gov viewer also has the pages numbered. These numbers correspond to the numbers on our transcription under "Ed Page." It should make it easier to scroll to your page more quickly.
