James A. Senter Obituary Submitted by: Michael Crosby Source: Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, Nov. 1946 James A. SENTER Nov. 1946 Professor J.A. Senter, Veteran educator and resident of Verona for the past 26 years , died of a heart attack at his home at 5 a.m. Tuesday. He passed his 75 birthday in August and was in apparent good health up to the moment of his fatal illness. Mr. Senter was reared in Itawamba County , taught school there for a number of years and was elected County Superintendent of Education in which post he served with distinction and honor. He was a founder of the Itawamba County Agricultural High School and served as its superintendent for several years. Moving
to Lee County , Mr. Senter became superintendent of the Verona High
School . A post which he held until his retirement about two years ago.
Hundreds of his pupils over North Mississippi loved him and are saddened
because of his Mr. Senter held several offices in the Baptist church , of which he was a loyal life long member. He was teacher of the men's Bible Class in the Verona Baptist Church. He leaves his wife Mrs. Vona Grady Senter; a daughter Mrs. Ruble Griffin of Verona; Two sons Grady Senter of Mobile and Paul Senter of Tupelo; five sisters Mrs.'s Molly Graham of Jackson, Mrs. Luther Bookout of Santa Rosa Texas, Mrs. Will Brown of Oklahoma City Oklahoma, Mrs. J. T. Holley of Spigler Oklahoma, and Mrs. Mittie Copeland of San Benito, Calif.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Arrangements
for his services are incomplete pending arrival of his son from Mobile,
Ala. Pallbearers will be members of his Sunday school class. Honorary
pallbearers will be his many friends.
