Funeral services were held from the Bethel church for Rufus Alonzo Cox, 46, who died in the U S Veteran Facilities at Biloxi after a lingering illness of three months. He had been recently discharged from the U S Navy following a stroke and was placed in a government hospital for treatment. He had served 30 years in the U S Navy, enlisting at the age of 16.
Surviving are his wife, formerly Miss Irma Oliver of near Monticello; three daughters, Mrs Roger Comfort, Oakland, Calif; Mrs Charles Blanchard, Clinton, Okla; and Miss Barbara Jean Cox of Brookhaven; two sons, Seaman Zane W Cox, U S Navy in South Pacific and Sgt Robert K Cox, U S Army, China; two brothers, Henry Cox, Monticello and Otto Cox, Pascagoula; five sisters, Mrs Alma Rutledge, Sontag; Mrs Stella Cothern, Little Rock, Ark; Mrs Lucy Ruge, Klamath Falls, Ore; Mrs Beulah Russell, Monticello and Mrs Mary Tuar of Brookhaven.
Rev D O Horne, pastor of the Monticello Baptist church was in charge of the service assisted by Rev E E Hedgepeth.
