Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. As pilot of the flagship, U.S.S. Hartford, during action against Fort Morgan, rebel gunboats and the ram Tennessee, in Mobile Bay, 5 August 1864. With his ship under terrific enemy shellfire, Freeman calmly remained at his station in the maintop and skillfully piloted the ships into the bay. He rendered gallant service throughout the prolonged battle in which the rebel gunboats were captured or driven off, the prize ram Tennessee forced to surrender.

"Friend, 95, On Hand For In-Laws 100th Birthday Party"
The 100th birthday of John Ira Parker, seated, will be feted at a pinnic at Ocean Springs Community House Feb. 22 and present will be James C. Yocom, standing, who was 95 last Saturday and whose daughter married Parker's son. A native of Jackson County, Parker has 14 children, 59 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and many great-greats. Yocom, who lives at Fort Bayou, was born in Russellville, Ala. Relatives and friends will take basket lunches to the Feb. 22 picnic.

SEWARD FamilyThe Seward family arrived in Big Point, Mississippi in November 1918,  in a covered wagon built by their Dad.  His name was Meredith Adelbert Seward and his wife was Florence Mabel Rea Seward.  They were originally from Iowa having lived for a while in Missouri.  The children pictured are Velma, Lillian, Florence and Harry.  Harry Seward was born during the family's stay in Missouri in 1910.   He lived in Tanner Williams (northeast Jackson Co.) until his death in 1994.  Seward Farms is still an active farm in Jackson Co.
