Will of John Porter
In the name of God Amen I John Porter of the State of Mississippi and county of Franklin being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following-
 

I appoint my son Jefferson C. Porter and my sons James R. Porter and William M. Porter, as they become of age executors of my last will and testament in manner and form following-
 

1st I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Porter the negro girl Elizabeth and three other negroes if she should ever marry again to have during her lifetime and at her death revert back to my estate.
 

2nd I give and bequeath to my daughter Caroline Grisham the negro girl Mary and her children two other negroes and four hundred dollars in money.

3rd It is my will that all my property be kept together except what is otherwise disposed of until my younger children become of age- When that which is disposed of shall revert back to my estate when it shall be equally divided so that which I now dispose of shall return to the same owner.
 

4th It is my will that my grand child, Lucius I. Hendricks be an equal heir with rest of my children.
 

5th I appoint my son Jefferson C. Porter guardian of James R. Porter, William Porter, Albert Q. Porter, Elvira Porter and Lucius I Hendricks to take care of them and educate them.

Read and acknowledged this 23 day of November. 1834.
