2nd Mississippi Infantry

2nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment

Information on this page comes from various sources.  Co. K came from the Tishomingo Co. MSGenWeb page and was added to what I had.  The CC of the Tishomingo and Alcorn Co. pages is Bobbie Brewer Wilson who gave permission for its use here.  Data from this company may not be used for anything other than personal research without her permission.  Information on company A and K comes mainly from Martin L. Sandy, Jr. and is used here by permission.  It may not be used for anything other than personal research without his permission.  Information on Co. G is from the Pontotoc Co. page, Pam Gibbs is the CC. The link below is to her "Biographies Co. G" page. While I have abstracted some of this information with her permission, this page has a lot more. This information can not be used for anything other than personal research without her permission. Some of the information comes from the Tippah Co. Historical Society publications and from Confederate cemeteries on the web. The roll of honor information came from the Official Records. Michael Brasher's homepage contains the service records of all men in the regiment. Michael is writing a book on this regiment. Please submit any information you have on this regiment so that it gets into the book.

All companies in this regiment were from north Mississippi.  Companies B, D, and F were from Tippah County.  Three companies were from Tishomingo, three from Pontotoc and one from Itawamba.  All three Tippah County companies were volunteer companies before Mississippi left the union.  The only other such company, the Salem Dragons, were mustered into the 19th Miss. Infantry.  The 2nd was brigaded with the 11th throughout the war.  Some of the battles this unit fought in were: 1st Manassas (under Col. Wm. C. Falkner of Ripley), Antietam,  Second Bull Run, Seven Days Battles, Seven Pines, Wilderness, Gaines' Farm, Malvern Hill and Appomatox.

In the list below, ROH stands for Roll of Honor.
