Summers Family Cem - Calhoun County, MS
Summers Family Cemetery
Mike Worsham has transcribed this family cemetery. If anyone knows
of any futher information about this family, please let me know.
They are not in the index for the Calhoun County 1860 Census but the graves
are so close to the Yalobusha County line that they may be in their census
or it's possible that the census taker missed them.
In the 1861 Calhoun County Land Records {transcribed by Imogene
Springer} for Township 12 Range 3 West Section 10 there is a reference
to John D. Sumners for the SW 1/4 for 160 acres.
About 75 to 100 feet north of the "family" plot are two graves
that are refered to as "slave graves."
Both plots have been recently mowed and are very attractive. We
were able to drive within about 300 feet of the family plot.
The photo for John Denton Summers will not print to the web page for some reason.
