Calhoun County Historical Society Minutes– November 2009

The final quarterly 2009 meeting for the Calhoun County Historical Society was held on November 8th at the Pittsboro Methodist Church.

Reports concerning the microfilm reader/printer, carpet for the church aisles, quarterly newsletters and courthouse construction concerns were discussed.  The results of some book sales through Larry Hellums’ interaction at a recent monument dedication were also presented to the club members.

A discussion about the future closure of The Monitor-Herald led to the formation of a committee to see about the feasibility of closing in the back porch at The Dennis Murphree House to make additional room for storage and workspace. The house is open by appointment for genealogical research.

The 2009 slate of officers were re-elected for 2010 along with the same board members.

Lee and Bubba Jenkins, accompanied by Carlyn Jenkins presented a very informative program about the Boy Scouts. Lee had prepared notes about the many aspects of Boy Scouts duties and then Bubba related some background/history information that was well received.

Dues of $15 for 2010 are now being received. The meetings are open to the public and meet on the 2nd Sunday of January, March, September and November at 2 pm at the church. The next program on January 10th will feature Ann King with a presentation of her White House Christmas Ornament collection.
